Exploring Technology in a Wizard World-Chapter 1290 - 1288: The Dissenting Staff Officer
"Alright." Richard listened to Bi Bi’s words, sliced the belly of the fried fish and the wing of the roasted chicken, and gave them to him.
Bi Bi swallowed it all in one bite, chewed a few times "smack smack," easily spat out the fish bones and chicken bones, and the remainder disappeared cleanly in his mouth—even though there’s clearly no stomach, who knows where it went.
Richard glanced at it, slightly curious, but too lazy to research the mechanism. After all, he’s currently busy with too many things, and just Balta text and Extraordinary factor are important enough. As for Bi Bi, this special automaton, while decent, it’s only decent, and cannot be mentioned in the same breath as either Balta text or Extraordinary factor.
So, Bi Bi this automaton could be something to study when bored in free time, but for now, no.
Just like that, Richard continued with his breakfast, occasionally cutting off a part of the food amidst Bi Bi’s shouting, and feeding it to him.
One minute, two minutes, three-quarters...
Time passed, and soon it was nearing the end of breakfast. Richard was about to eat the last small piece of white bread, to finish breakfast, when the sound of a report from his subordinates came from outside the door.
"Lord Richard, General Soron sent someone to inform you that he wants you to go to the Command Room right after breakfast to attend the latest top military intelligence meeting."
"Alright, I understand," Richard responded.
"Yes," the subordinate replied, retreating.
Richard stood up, reaching his hand to bring the bread to his mouth and stepped outward.
Just as he was about to step out, a voice called from the side.
Bi Bi had opened his mouth wide, staring directly and intently at the piece of bread in Richard’s hand, making a sound of "ah," the meaning of the expression was clear—give it to me, I want to eat!
"Even this you eat? Don’t you just like meat?"
"Who said that? I also like bread, ah—"
Richard shook his head, unwilling to argue with Bi Bi, tossed the bread, and threw it towards Bi Bi.
Bi Bi opened his mouth, caught it accurately, quickly swallowed, showing a satisfied expression.
"Alright, breakfast is done," Richard said, "I’m heading out for a while, you’d better behave, or I’ll consider shutting your mouth again."
"Got it."
"That’s good, bam!" Richard covered the wooden box’s lid with one hand and walked out.
...
Soon, Richard arrived at the Command Room where he’d been once, seeing the army’s commander Soron Bonaparte.
Soron seemed like he hadn’t slept all night, his eyes were bloodshot, but there was no fatigue in his complexion, his eyes were quite fervent. Upon seeing Richard arrive, he didn’t waste any time and pointed at the sand table and said: "Lord Richard, I’ll explain the latest situation to you."
"Okay." Richard nodded, walked up to the sand table.
Soron took out a wooden stick, pointed around on the sand table, and started to speak, quickly and clearly explaining the events of the night.
Firstly, the army infiltrated from the Sika Kingdom, under pressure from the Alliance Army’s deployment, reluctantly shifted eastward, already close to Goda City as planned, soon ready to launch an offensive and annihilate them.
This matter is proceeding smoothly.
Slightly less smooth are the underground searches.
Throughout the planned area, including the five-mile extension by Richard, large forces repeatedly searched, and aside from finding a few abandoned cellars, caves, and secret rooms, there was no sign of any underground passage.
Pointing heavily at the sand table with the wooden stick, Soron’s gaze turned a bit serious as he looked at Richard and asked, "Lord Richard, what do you think is the best way forward?"
"Hmm—" Richard naturally had an answer in his mind, but purposely paused to avoid appearing too hasty, then answered, "I suggest continuing to expand the search area northward, setting it to ten miles."
"Continuing north?" Before Soron made any statement, a staff member beside him spoke out, and Richard looked over, it was the White Robed Staff he’d met before.
Even though the top military intelligence meeting only had two participants, staff members also had the right to suggest. Richard now knew the person’s identity, considered the chief staff of the entire Command Room, also known as the Chief of Staff, or more graphically, Soron’s military strategist.
The official position may not be high, but the actual status isn’t low, counted as Soron’s trusted aide. Therefore, Soron had sent him to invite Richard to the first top military intelligence meeting, showing the importance attached to him. Now the person speaking isn’t overstepping, just a bit abrupt.
After all, ideally, Soron should have expressed first, then the staff should follow up with words.
"Mr. Kun, right?" Richard looked at him, knowing he’s called Kun Darsie, slightly furrowed his brow, and asked, "Do you have a different opinion?"
"Lord Richard, please forgive my offense," the staff spoke, with a solemn expression, the wrinkles on his face became extremely evident, his pale blue eyes gave a very firm look, opening his mouth, "I do not intend to question your wisdom, but I want to inform you based on some basic information, continuing north in the search is not a wise idea.
Because, the further north we go, the closer we get to residential villages, making it less likely for the passage exit to be found, after all, the enemy wouldn’t be dumb enough to place the passage entrance right under our noses. So instead of continuing the northern search, consuming substantial manpower, turning south might yield some unexpected findings."
"No, I still insist on continuing north, Mr. Kun."
"But lord, your idea..."
"No, this is not an idea, it’s an order," Richard said, too lazy to explain much, since out-of-body experiences cannot convince people anyway. Given he indeed has the power of a second-in-command in the army, he’ll solve it in the simplest way, "Mr. Kun, I command the troops to continue the northern search, with a range of ten miles."
"I..." The White Robed Staff’s expression turned slightly unpleasant, he turned to Soron.
Soron looked at the White Robed Staff, somewhat surprised, likewise surprised at Richard, then after a few seconds of thinking said: "Carry out Lord Richard’s commands, that’s also how I see it."
"This...Yes." The White Robed Staff reluctantly lowered his head, transmitting the order.
...
Morning hours.
Near the Bloodstone Mountain defense line.
A temporary campsite, where soldiers of the Red Maple Cavalry Group were resting.
A night of fruitless searching left them feeling tired and bored, with a slight anger hiding deep inside.
Be aware, as soldiers, the greatest honor is achieving battle glory. Only by securing enough battle accomplishments, acquiring ample glory, can they be respected, can they obtain the best equipment, and the best supplies from logistics.
To earn glory, there must be battles to engage in, there must be fighting against the enemy.
This time, stationed inland and trained for nearly half a year, they finally encountered the breakout of war and the infiltration of Sika Kingdom’s army, seizing a chance for glory.
On the battlefield, as soon as they confronted the people of Sika Kingdom, they directly obliterated a hundred-man squad of the opposition, causing widespread chaos, if not for the task at hand being scouting enemy positions, they would have charged into the enemy’s Central Army camp.
Later, upon scouting clearly the enemy situation, identifying weaknesses in the Sika army, they had already devised a decapitation plan, but who knew one order, directly relocated them here, aligning them with second-line forces searching for the supposed subterranean entrances.
This is simply an insult to them, an insult to the entire Red Maple Cavalry Group!
An immense insult!
