Chapter 183: The Crimson Night [11]

The old mage and Cassian clashed in midair with tremendous ferocity, scattering blinding sparks all around.

Their battle shifted from the sky down to the earth, right among the rubble. Their spells constantly collided to swallow, tear apart, and destroy one another, literally turning the already ruined capital into a cloud of dust.

Despite the agony of his damaged Dragon Heart, Cassian pushed the Storm Heart in his chest to its absolute limits. The energy pumping into his body was colossal, but still... his speed wasn’t enough.

This old man standing before him wasn’t an ordinary mage. He was a Demigod. On top of that, he was a hybrid of a vampire and an elf. As if all this disgusting and flawless genetic combination wasn’t enough, the man wore an artifact that somehow slowed down Cassian’s movements.

Cassian gritted his teeth. How could such a powerful freak not have appeared in his previous dreams? There wasn’t even a mention of such a monster in the original story of the game or the dreams Zevstyle had shown him. This incomprehensible situation screamed a single truth at him: Variables were deadly. He couldn’t lower his guard for even a second.

The duration of his Sovereign form was about to expire. Without a moment of hesitation, Cassian sacrificed his own lifespan once again, keeping that dark, absolute power active within his body.

The old man was like a savage beast. He swung his spear with an agility completely unexpected from his aged body, attacking relentlessly from close range without giving Cassian a chance to breathe. The complex magic circles he drew in the air with his fingers spewed elemental attacks that pressured Cassian from every angle.

"Absolute Severance!"

Cassian burst out of the darkness and unleashed his unstoppable technique once more. But a strange gleam appeared in the old man’s eyes.

As if he had seen the attack before it even happened, he raised his spear at a pinpoint angle and blocked the lethal strike simultaneously.

When Cassian created a small scale Chaos explosion to create some distance, the man spun his spear around himself like a pinwheel, forming a miniature but impenetrable tornado.

While the Chaos flames crashed into the tornado and scattered, the man took almost no damage. The minor burns and abrasions on his skin closed up in seconds, thanks to the superhuman regeneration brought by his vampire blood.

Dragging the tip of his spear against the cratered earth with a disturbing metallic screech, the old man walked slowly toward Cassian.

"I was quite excited to have the chance to fight strong enemies," the man said, a fake sadness in his voice. "But I feel a bit disappointed, young man."

He pointed the tip of his spear directly at Cassian’s heart. The gleam in his eyes grew larger as he smiled, bearing his sharp vampire fangs.

"I know you have much more than this! More! Show me more, young man! Give me the most flawless, the most magnificent death I could ever taste!"

Fixing his sword, Cassian asked in an incredibly calm, ice cold tone:

"Don’t you want to win?"

The man burst into laughter. "Hahah! Winning means different things to everyone, boy. Do you think there could be a greater victory than dying while surpassing your own limits in a fight against someone stronger than you?" The old man’s eyes clouded over with a nostalgic emotion for a moment. "Besides... I can see that you are stronger than me."

Seeing that Cassian didn’t react to this rambling at all, the man chuckled and poured his massive mana into his spear.

"You don’t need to think so much, young man. Come here and give this old man the perfect end!"

The old mage resumed his deadly attacks, much more savagely than before. Cassian blocked every strike, dodged right on time, and countered with Chaos explosions or Absolute Severance in every millisecond opening he found.

However, the man’s annoying eyes seemed to foresee everything. The ice spears suddenly erupting from underground, the light speed attacks executed by pushing the Storm Heart to its peak... The old man adapted to all of them with flawless harmony.

Cassian changed his tactics and aimed directly for the man’s all seeing eyes.

In the split second he got right up in his face, a dense mass of blood burst from the old man’s body, solidifying into the shape of a spear.

As the blood spear pierced Cassian’s chest and punctured his lungs, the man’s actual spear slammed into Cassian’s shoulder at the same time. The erupting shockwave shattered Cassian’s shoulder to pieces.

Cassian instantly turned into black smoke and glided backward, widening the distance. The moment he solidified again, he blasted a violent wave of Chaos from his body outward, reducing all the spells raining down on him to nothingness.

But the old man had no intention of stopping. He leaped forward, crashing down on Cassian like a meteor along with his spear.

Cassian didn’t dodge. Just as the spear was about to impale his chest, he grabbed the lightning charged weapon with his bare hands.

Stunned by being stopped, the old man swung a lethal kick at Cassian’s stomach with his free leg.

But Cassian disrupted his form in that exact spot. A massive void of smoke opened up right where his stomach used to be. When the old man’s leg passed completely through that void without meeting any resistance... Cassian suddenly solidified his body, cloaking it in Chaos flames.

Before the old man could even realize what happened or how he fell into that trap, his leg was sliced off smoothly right above the knee and fell to the ground.

Cassian didn’t forgive this mistake. He let go of the spear he was holding. While the weapon tore through his own chest, he ignored the pain and lunged forward, plunging his black claws straight into the man’s chest, tearing through his armor like paper.

His goal was to consume and rot the man from the inside out with Chaos. However, the moment his fingers touched the man’s organs, the old man’s blood sprang into action as if it had its own mind and consciousness. The boiling blood formed an impenetrable shield around Cassian’s claws, defending the body from the inside.

Barraged by new spells locking onto him from the outside, Cassian turned into mist again and solidified meters away.

As he retreated, a bizarre, crimson stream of blood glided toward the old man’s severed leg on the ground. In seconds, flesh, bone, and muscle rewove themselves; the leg returned completely to normal. The massive holes in his chest had also closed up through the same blood magic.

The man was taking an unbelievable, sick pleasure from the fight. He placed his hand over the lethal wound where his chest had just been pierced. Remembering the pain and how close he had come to death, he offered a satisfied, maniacal smile.

Cassian, on the other hand, stood completely unresponsive a few dozen meters away from him, his head tilted slightly to the side.

After a few seconds of eerie stillness, Cassian’s head slowly straightened up. His shoulders relaxed. The sounds of the battle raging around him and the howling of the wind seemed to completely cut off for him for a moment.

He slowly raised his right hand into the air.

At that moment... Blood erupted from the vein of a torn elf corpse lying on the ground just a few steps away. Defying gravity, the rising blood formed a flawless sphere right above Cassian’s palm.

Then another one. And another. 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶

In the blink of an eye, all the blood left in the veins, flesh, and broken bones of the hundreds of corpses lying in that sector of the battlefield began to seep out. Thousands of crimson rivers formed, rising from the ground toward the sky. The noble blood of the high elves, the cursed blood of the vampires, the blood of the Obsidian Dawn fanatics, the Northern army, or the innocent civilians... All of it gathered at a single center, right above Cassian.

Within seconds, the blood mass turned into a massive sphere the size of a lake. But as this crimson mass grew, the pure Chaos and dark mana radiating from Cassian’s body began to seep into the blood.

The massive, vividly red mass slowly darkened with the touch of chaos. First it turned into a deep maroon, then into a pitch black hue that froze the veins.

This colossal sphere of Black Blood suspended in the air swallowed even the light around it, causing the surrounding rubble to lift and float due to the terrifying pressure it emitted. Cassian had taken the blood manipulation he had just seen his enemy use, merged it with his own absolute chaos, and transformed it into an entirely different nightmare.

The old man’s all seeing eyes... now trembled only with pure admiration and untamed euphoria. He opened his arms wide, looking as if he were watching the most beautiful scenery he had ever seen in his life.

In the absolute silence where the Black Blood sphere finished gathering, the surface of the mass rippled. The sphere suddenly changed shape, stretching out to become an unimaginably huge, massive black spear with its tip dipped in nothingness. Its target was directly the old mage.

Laughing out loud, the old man filled his spear with his mana with all his might. Around him, dozens, hundreds of magic circles in different colors opened up, overlapping one another. Wind, fire, ice, and lightning... All the elements roared to form his divine defense.

Cassian swiftly brought his suspended hand down.

The colossal Black Blood spear descended with a deafening shriek that split the sky in two.

At the moment of impact, there was no spark, nor was there a sound of an explosion. There was only... an absolute consumption.

The black blood pierced through the hundreds of magic circles the old man had proudly conjured like paper in a tenth of a second, erasing them into nothingness. The legendary spear in the man’s hand rotted and turned to dust the moment it touched the darkness.

The ecstatic smile on the old man’s face froze. The moment the devastating, unstoppable weight of the black blood crashed into the man’s body, his flesh and bones were completely erased. The demigod blood, the vampire regeneration, or that ancient artifact... None of them could resist that dark wrath for even a single second.

When the attack hit the ground, the earth’s crust violently caved in.

A massive tremor shook the entire capital like a cradle. A colossal, bottomless crater opened up at the exact point where the black blood touched the earth. The nearby buildings, rubble, corpses, and even the dust clouds in the air were completely wiped out by the chaos infused blood explosion. There was neither a trace of the old man nor a piece of the world around him left behind.

There was only the howling of the wind, absolute nothingness, and a colossal pit of death.
