Exiled Prince: I'm the Unexpected Extra in the Novel-Chapter 149: Date with Lilith [8] Gods Also Fear & Blue and Pink
Cassian sat on the comfortable sofa in the room, with Lilith pretending to sleep on his lap.
Lilith’s white, silk-like hair flowed through his fingers.
While his hand involuntarily and rhythmically stroked her hair, his mind was in a completely different war.
"What the hell am I doing?" he asked himself. This entity in front of him was the source of the curse that ruined his life.
And now, she was curled up in his lap like a cat, pretending to be innocent. And worst of all, Cassian was allowing it.
He broke the silence with his own voice.
"Lilith."
Lilith answered as if mumbling, without opening her eyes.
"What is it, Honey?"
"What is a God?"
Lilith paused for a moment. Then she shrugged.
"I don’t know."
Cassian’s hand stopped.
"What do you mean you don’t know?" he said, his voice hardening. "You said you would give me information about the gods, the door of the end, and those beyond the gods! You brought me here for this!"
Lilith opened her eyes when she felt Cassian’s unrest. After stretching like a cat, she got up from Cassian’s lap and walked towards the kitchen.
"Yes, I will," she said with her back turned, starting the coffee machine.
"But the question you asked doesn’t have a clear answer, my prince."
The clinking of cups was heard.
Lilith returned with two coffees in her hand, handed one to Cassian, moved to the edge of the sofa, and threw her legs onto Cassian’s lap.
"Let me explain it this way, Honey," she said, blowing on her steaming cup. "Humans... either fear or worship what they don’t know. This is the defense mechanism of weak minds."
She fixed her eyes on Cassian.
"Gods are an unknown. Beings far away from us, with powers exceeding our imagination, perhaps just more advanced living things than us."
"They bless those who worship them, throw crumbs at them, give their boons. And they destroy or curse those who do not submit to them."
Lilith took a sip of her coffee.
"Humans either worship them or harbor hatred. There is no middle ground. But even this situation contains a lot of complexity within itself."
She drew circles in the air with her finger.
"For example... While people in one region worship a certain god, let’s say the God of Light, another community in another region worships the God of Darkness."
"And this situation... causes chaos. The never-ending rivalry of the gods spreads to humans and leads to wars. You are their pawns."
"For instance," said Lilith, her voice getting serious. "The loser gods of the war... Like Nerath or Malacor."
Cassian’s eyes widened at the familiar name. Nerath... The entity he fought in that dark dimension.
"Nerath," said Lilith, her eyes zoning out. "He was a foolish but honorable god who chose to protect his own people and those who worshipped him to the end. He fought for those who believed in him until the end."
"But the result..." "In the result, he was ruined." "Everyone who worshipped him, who trusted him, lost their lives. The thing he tried to protect became his end."
"Nerath fell weak. And in the upper realm, he was exploited by other gods. Torn apart. Eaten."
She grimaced.
"Nerath scattered what remained of him to the mortal realm and somehow, clung to life like a parasite.
His hatred and desire for revenge did not allow him to give up, to perish.
He cursed humans, continued to cause chaos in the world.
Lilith smiled.
"But unfortunately... A god could not cause chaos in this world unchecked. The world has an immune system."
"The defense system the World created to protect itself... That is, the Mystic Beasts!"
"They contained him."
Lilith gave Cassian a knowing and mocking look.
"And in the end... A small, white-haired, angry boy came and killed Nerath. How ironic, isn’t it? The end of a god came at the hands of a mortal."
Cassian averted his eyes.
"As for Malacor..." said Lilith, changing her tone of voice. "He was quite the opposite... Instead of fighting for those who worshipped him, he exploited his own people! He used them as fuel for his own power. He slaughtered his entire people through his avatar, absorbed their souls, and vanished. Just to survive."
Lilith put her cup on the table.
"In short... Gods are living things with their own goals, whose power levels are beyond our imagination, but essentially no different from us."
"They have flaws just like us. Arrogant, jealous, cowardly... And most importantly, they can be killed. They have emotions. They struggle to live and they are afraid. Just as we fear them... There are things they fear too."
Cassian frowned. "What do gods fear?"
Lilith shrugged.
"Who knows? Maybe other, stronger gods... Or a completely different living thing hiding in the dark corners of the universe that we can never imagine. Those behind that door."
Her eyes narrowed.
"Actually, I believe in this. Because Yavres... He desires to get stronger at all times. For this, he wants to descend to earth, exploit the mortal realm, perform that ’Great Harvest’ and assume his final form. Like a sort of preparation. He is preparing for something."
Cassian had frozen like a statue.
What he heard had shifted all the stones in his mind. They were preparing for a war, but they didn’t even fully know what the enemy was.
"Honey?"
Lilith waved her hand in front of Cassian’s face.
"Hey Honey! Are you listening to me? You spaced out."
Cassian spoke, demoralized, his shoulders slumped.
"Who is my enemy?" "Against whom am I fighting? The Princes? The Gods? Or those things they fear?"
Lilith finished her coffee and stood up. She came to Cassian’s side, hugged him from behind, and rested her cheek on his hair.
"You don’t need to make anyone an enemy, honey," she said softly.
"Just do what you have done up to this time. Destroy everyone who wants to steal your life from you! Humans, mystic beasts, gods, or whatever lies beyond the universe..."
She kissed Cassian on the cheek.
"You don’t need to be afraid. After all, I will be with you! The two of us... Are enough for everything."
Cassian’s lips curled slightly. This woman’s madness could sometimes be strangely comforting.
"Was that supposed to comfort me?" he asked in a mocking tone.
Lilith suddenly pulled his ear.
"Yes, exactly!" said Lilith with feigned anger.
"You were supposed to kneel before me and say, ’Supreme Lilith, how generous and beautiful you are, you have enlightened me!’ You should be grateful, idiot! Hmph!"
While Cassian rubbed his ear, he moved to the table and drank his cold coffee.
During this time, Lilith was circling around him, making jokes, telling ridiculous stories, trying to cheer him up.
Hours passed.
Lilith linked her arm with Cassian’s and tugged him.
"Look at the time! It’s gotten quite late!" she said, yawning. "Come on Honey, let’s go to bed! I’m sleepy."
Cassian looked at her in surprise.
"Bed?"
"Yes."
"What is strange about that? People sleep at night."
"Isn’t this place inside your mind?" "This is a dream. Why do I need to sleep? We aren’t physically tired."
"Because it’s fun!" said Lilith, as if she had given the most logical answer. "And sleeping in a dream... Is like dreaming within a dream. It’s a great feeling!"
Cassian sighed.
"I think we should return to the real world and get to work," "Besides, I will even make a body for you."
Lilith pouted.
"Ehh... What’s the need to rush? If I end this dream now, when will we have a date chance like this again? War, blood, death... We will return to them. Let’s stay a little longer."
"Lilith!"
Lilith stepped forward and came nose to nose with Cassian.
She opened her eyes wide, batted her eyelashes. She assumed her most innocent, most attractive form.
"Honey... Please? Just this night..."
Cassian couldn’t resist those looks any longer.
"Okay," he said, giving up. "But only until this night ends. When morning comes, we return."
"Yaaay!" Lilith jumped with joy. "I love you, Honey!"
She quickly headed towards the bedroom.
"Let’s put on our pajamas! Come on!"
When Cassian entered the room, Lilith had already put on simple but cute pink pajamas with teddy bear patterns on them. She was sitting cross-legged on the bed.
She threw a blue pajama set of the same model towards Cassian.
Cassian caught the pajamas in the air and looked at them with disgust.
"Do I have to wear this?"
"Of course!" "We are a couple! We must dress the same."
Cassian sighed. "Fine."
He started to undo the buttons of his shirt.
"Turn around," he said suddenly.
Lilith stopped. "Why!?"
"What do you mean why?" "I don’t want you to see me naked!"
Lilith replied innocently. "But..." "While bathing, while dressing... You’ve already seen my whole body naked hundreds of times. Have you forgotten? I was always with you, watching you!"
Cassian glared at her.
He took the pajamas and the shirt, walked out of the room, and closed the door.
In the hallway, grumbling, he put on those blue teddy bear pajamas and came back.
When he entered the room, Lilith had already gone under the duvet and settled on one side of the bed. She patted the empty part of the bed gently with her hand.
"Come on."
Cassian looked at Lilith, then at the bed.
"I think..." he said, his eye drifting to the single armchair in the room. "I will sleep on the armchair."
Suddenly, the door behind him closed with a loud noise and the sound of a lock was heard. "Click."
Lilith’s eyes shone.
"Come on Honey... Don’t keep me waiting too long. That armchair is very uncomfortable."
Cassian realized there was no escape.
Puffing and huffing, he moved to the bed.
He lifted the duvet and lay down on the very edge of the bed, with his back turned to Lilith.
The lights went out by themselves. The room was buried in darkness.
There was silence for a while. Then Cassian felt warm arms hugging him from behind.
Lilith had wrapped her arms around his back and rested her cheek on his back.
"Honey!" she whispered. "Hug me."
"I don’t want to!"
"Please!"
"No!"
"If you hug me, I will give you another kiss..."
Lilith’s voice changed, taking on a lower, more provocative and lustful tone. She brought her lips close to Cassian’s ear. "Maybe... even more."
Cassian spoke maintaining his calm.
"Do you think I’m some sort of man fond of lust!"
"Yes," said Lilith giggling.
"After all... That blue-haired girl, what was her name, yes Cecilia! You were the one who entered her room trying to steal her panties, examining them in the air. Pervert!"
Cassian turned around in panic.
"That was an accident! It was misunderstood!"
As soon as Cassian turned around, Lilith seized the opportunity.
She grabbed him quickly and hugged him tightly, burying her face in his chest and wrapping her legs around him.
" finally you are looking at me..." she whispered.
Cassian’s cheeks blushed enough to be visible even in the dark.
Lilith’s scent, her warmth was making him dizzy.
Lilith lifted her head and looked at him. Her voice was like an innocent little girl this time.
"Hug me."
Cassian hesitated.
His hands remained in the air. Then slowly, trembling, he lowered them and wrapped his hands around Lilith’s back.
At that moment Lilith let out a deep breath and left herself completely to Cassian’s arms, to his safety.
"Goodnight Honey," she said.
Cassian rested his chin on her head.
"Goodnight," he whispered.
