Chapter 599: Chapter 557: Sleepwalking Disorder

Li Yuwen’s face immediately changed, "No! In this weather where we wear jackets, if you sit all night and catch a cold, it will be my fault again."

The Wei Family will invite Li Yuzhu to check Pei Shenyan’s injured foot tomorrow morning. If Pei Shenyan catches a cold, Li Yuzhu will surely tell her parents, and she’ll be scolded by them again.

"Then... how do you suggest we sleep?" Pei Shenyan looked at the bed, looking awkward.

How to sleep? Yes, how to sleep?

Li Yuwen picked up a pillow and placed it in the middle of the bed, "One person on each side." She thought for a moment and then warned Pei Shenyan, "Sleep neatly and don’t come to my side."

Pei Shenyan held back a laugh; he had always slept soundly since he was a child, and his blanket corners stayed intact throughout the night. He didn’t know who rolled around the bed all night but still reminded someone else.

"What if you roll over to my side?" Pei Shenyan reminded her.

Li Yuwen clenched her fists, "I’ll sleep honestly, don’t worry."

In his heart, Pei Shenyan thought he didn’t quite trust her.

After agreeing on how to sleep, the two climbed onto the bed and lay down.

Li Yuwen slept on the inside of the bed, while Pei Shenyan slept on the outside.

A clothes rack hung with their outer garments stood in front of the bed.

The little maid Cui Xi slept in the wooden room next door.

The Wei Family provided her with a small cot, with just enough bedding for her small frame to sleep on.

In the room further next door slept Pei Fusheng and Pei Ji.

Pei Shenyan glanced at Li Yuwen beside him, smiled lightly, and blew out the candle on the bedside lamp.

With a man sleeping beside her, although this man was her legitimate husband, Li Yuwen wasn’t prepared to consummate the marriage. She was so nervous she couldn’t fall asleep.

With a slight turn of her head, she could smell Pei Shenyan’s masculine scent.

If she turned, she might bump into Pei Shenyan’s face.

The Wei Family was really stingy, offering such a small bed for Pei Shenyan! Li Yuwen sighed in her heart.

She didn’t know if the quilt was too thick and hot, or if it was her nervousness causing it, but her face gradually burned, and her forehead started sweating.

She began to gasp for air.

Pei Shenyan noticed her unusual breathing and turned to ask, "Yu Wen, what’s wrong?"

"No... ah, I’m thirsty, the Wei Family’s food was too salty." She exhaled.

"Do you want water? I’ll get some for you." Pei Shenyan said, pushing aside the blanket and sitting up.

"No, I’ll go myself. Your foot is still injured, try not to walk too much." Li Yuwen reached out and pressed him back.

She climbed out from the inside of the bed and slid over Pei Shenyan.

The room’s rooftop had bright tiles, allowing moonlight to shine through and illuminate the room without needing candles to see where the table and chairs were.

Li Yuwen didn’t light a candle; she felt her way forward.

But suddenly, the room lit up.

Pei Shenyan had lit a candle, and he said, "The moonlight, however bright, doesn’t match the brightness of a candle. You’re unfamiliar with the room’s layout, be careful not to bump against the corner of the table."

Li Yuwen didn’t want to light a candle; she didn’t want too much light to reveal her embarrassed face to Pei Shenyan.

"It’s fine, I can see clearly." Li Yuwen lifted the kettle on the stove, poured a bowl of hot water, and gently blew on it.

Once it cooled, she drank two bowls of water in one go.

Worried she might catch a chill, Pei Shenyan nudged her to quickly return to bed.

Li Yuwen took a breath, then walked back to lie down.

Pei Shenyan lifted the blanket on her side, patting her pillow, "Come on, lay down."

Li Yuwen, "..." She gave him a glance and then climbed onto the bed to lie down.

Pei Shenyan tucked the blanket around her, glanced at her, smiled gently, and blew out the light.

After drinking the water, Li Yuwen’s mood finally calmed a little, and along with the fatigue from the carriage ride, she gradually fell asleep.

But after all, she drank too much water, and she woke up in the middle of the night due to the need to relieve herself.

She considered holding it in, pressing on until morning to solve the issue.

But she couldn’t hold it, because trying made it difficult to sleep.

Moving around would also disturb Pei Shenyan.

What a struggle!

Li Yuwen gathered her courage, lifted the blanket, and slid down from the bed.

She looked back at the bed; Pei Shenyan was sleeping soundly.

Li Yuwen took a breath, grabbed a cloak to cover herself, and quietly opened the door latch.

She tiptoed to the cot and gently woke Cui Xi, "Cui Xi."

"Young mistress? Why aren’t you asleep yet?" Cui Xi yawned.

"Shhh—, keep it down." Li Yuwen covered her mouth, "I want to go to the restroom, accompany me."

"Oh, alright." Cui Xi put on an outer garment and was about to get a candle to light.

But Li Yuwen stopped her.

"Light it outside, lighting it inside might wake the young master." Li Yuwen glanced towards the bedroom and whispered.

Cui Xi also whispered, "The young mistress is still the one most concerned about the young master."

"Enough nonsense, let’s go." Li Yuwen pushed Cui Xi.

Cui Xi walked over and opened the main room door.

Outside, moonlight shone in the courtyard, gleaming brightly.

In the corner of the courtyard, there was a side door, leading out to the toilet.

The two walked to the side door, where Cui Xi then lit a candle.

After Li Yuwen finished at the toilet and returned, Cui Xi had just closed the side door. Li Yuwen whispered, "Who’s that?"

As she spoke, she extinguished the fire starter in Cui Xi’s hand.

Cui Xi turned around, "Young mistress, where?"

"Shh—" Li Yuwen gestured, "Let’s go take a look."

Looking at the way the person walked, it really resembled that fox spirit, Wei San.

Seeing Wei San coming at such a late hour, Li Yuwen’s fury rose again.

The two of them circled around a cluster of bamboo, stealthily and silently approaching.

As they got closer, Li Yuwen discovered that the person was indeed Wei San.

But Wei San’s demeanor seemed off, like she was a wooden puppet.

With her eyes half-open, she pushed open the half-closed main door and dazedly walked toward the bedroom, "Sen Lang, Sen Lang..."

Her voice was soft and tender, making Li Yuwen feel like wringing her neck.

The bedroom door was only slightly ajar.

Wei San easily walked into the bedroom, and finally, she sat down on a chair by the bed.

"Sen Lang..." Wei San softly called again.

Li Yuwen and Cui Xi both opened their eyes wide.

"Young mistress, Wei San is sitting in front of the young master’s bed. What’s she going to do?" Cui Xi whispered.

Li Yuwen gritted her teeth, "Shameless, what else!"

"I’ll chase her out!" Cui Xi also gritted her teeth, rolled up her sleeves, and was about to rush into the bedroom.

"Wait." Li Yuwen narrowed her eyes, an idea forming in her mind, "You go to the adjacent courtyard and call the Wei Family, have them take their daughter back."

Cui Xi was puzzled, "Huh, call them to take her back? Doesn’t that let Wei San off easy? We should beat her before driving her away."

Li Yuwen sneered, "I told you to go, so go. I’ll wait here for the Wei Family to give me an explanation! If they don’t explain to me clearly, I’ll make them regret it! Flirting with my husband in front of me, this Wei Family sure knows how to teach their daughter!"

Only then did Cui Xi understand, "Got it, young mistress."

The little maid, Cui Xi, turned and ran out.

Li Yuwen still didn’t enter the room, only standing at the bedroom door, looking toward the bed.

The clothing rack blocked the bed, so she couldn’t see Pei Shenyan on the bed, but she could see Wei San sitting on the chair by the bed.

Since sitting on the chair, Wei San hadn’t moved a muscle, sitting there like a wooden puppet, only occasionally murmuring "Sen Lang."

This left Li Yuwen bewildered.

What is this fox spirit trying to do?

Cui Xi, quick on her feet, soon brought the Wei Family from the east courtyard.

Not a few people came, judging by the footsteps and voices, about four people arrived.

Soon, the four of them holding lanterns entered the main hall and came to the bedroom door.

Among them, Uncle Wei and Wei Dalang’s wife, Li Yuwen had seen before, but there was a petite woman about fifty years old whom Li Yuwen hadn’t met.

However, the woman’s face bore a strong resemblance to Wei San, presumably her mother.

The woman looked flustered, continuously apologizing upon seeing Li Yuwen’s cold gaze, "I’m sorry, Mrs. Pei, it’s my fault for not managing my daughter well."

Uncle Wei and Wei Dalang both apologized repeatedly.

Although Wei Dalang’s wife said nothing, her brow furrowed.

"Is that how it is when I’m here? If I’m not, would it be even more unchecked?" Li Yuwen sneered, "I heard she snuck into my husband’s room like this last night too?"

The Wei Family looked grim, glancing at each other, not knowing what to say.

It was Uncle Wei who sighed, addressing Wei Dalang’s wife first, "Eldest daughter-in-law, aren’t you going to drag your little sister-in-law out? If someone sees her, we’ll be ridiculed."

"Yes, father." Wei Dalang’s wife responded, ready to head into the bedroom.

But Li Yuwen blocked her.

She crossed her arms, standing in front of the door, "Come and go as you please? Is my husband’s bed that easy to climb into? Without giving me a satisfactory explanation, I won’t allow it."

The Wei woman looked distressed, "Mrs. Pei, it’s not what you think, it’s not..."

"Then what is it? I just went for a walk outside, when I returned I saw your young daughter enter my husband’s room, my maid saw it too, this time she’s right here in the room, caught red-handed by me, and you say it isn’t so? Then what is it?" Li Yuwen sneered.

"What’s the matter, Yuwen?" Pei Shenyan’s voice asked from inside the room.

"Shut up, taking women behind my back, see how I deal with you!" Furious, Li Yuwen shouted coldly into the bedroom.

"Oh dear, Mrs. Pei, it’s not what you think, my third daughter is unwell, she has sleepwalking syndrome, she doesn’t know anything, she couldn’t possibly climb onto the bed, she only sat on the chair, if you don’t believe me, go inside and see." The Wei woman hurriedly said.

Li Yuwen was taken aback, sleepwalking syndrome?
