Chapter 445: Chapter 426 Dean Gu Has Ulterior Motives

Hospital!

In front of the dean’s office, Han Yan had been waiting for a long time.

Gu Qianxi finished the surgery and came out, explaining the patient’s condition to the nurse beside him. When he looked up and saw her, his steps briefly paused.

He wanted to turn away immediately.

But Han Yan didn’t give him that chance. She stepped forward with a polite smile: "Dean Gu, is the surgery over? Could you spare me a few minutes to talk about Keke?"

Gu Qianxi’s refined brows furrowed slightly. Knowing he couldn’t avoid it any further, he nodded reluctantly: "Let’s talk in my office."

Han Yan followed him inside. Gu Qianxi asked his assistant to pour her a cup of hot tea.

Han Yan thanked him cordially.

Gu Qianxi sat down on another sofa.

"Dean Gu, it’s clear that you care deeply about Keke. She calls you uncle, and you’ve watched her grow up. I can understand that the two of you have established a close bond, almost like family. But ultimately, you’re not related by blood. I am her biological mother. So I’m here to plead with you—please return my daughter to me, alright?" Han Yan wasn’t unreasonable; finding her daughter had left her both excited and overjoyed. She truly hoped her daughter could come back to live by her side.

Gu Qianxi looked up at her. Faced with her heartfelt plea, he didn’t know how to respond.

Family?

Was it really only family?

Thinking of the little one being taken away, Gu Qianxi’s heart felt as if it were being pierced by knives.

"Mrs. Han, I completely understand how excited you must feel about finding Keke. But Keke is already an adult now; her decisions should be hers to make. I’m afraid I can’t help you with this," Gu Qianxi said, trying to sidestep the topic as much as possible. Because, truthfully, he couldn’t bear to let Tong Keke go.

She was his. He hoped that would never change, for the rest of his life.

"Keke is a stubborn child, just like I was when I was younger. Despite my attempts to reach out, she refuses to talk to me. I truly feel helpless, which is why I’m here to ask for your assistance, Dean Gu. Can you help me convince her?" Han Yan pleaded anxiously.

"Mrs. Han, I’ve always respected Keke’s right to make her own choices. In this matter, I truly can’t help you. Please, go home." Gu Qianxi felt he was being terribly heartless, even despicable. To satisfy his own selfish desires, he was refusing to help a mother who was clearly struggling. He hated that he had turned into someone so cold and unfeeling.

Han Yan didn’t think much of it, though. Instead, she felt that Gu Qianxi was a good man—responsible, and incredibly kind to her daughter.

"Well then, even if that’s the case, I still hope you’ll try to persuade her. Regardless of whether she agrees, I’ll be grateful to you," Han Yan said helplessly as she stood up and turned to leave.

Gu Qianxi watched her departing figure, full of disappointment. His emotions were complicated.

Night fell. Tomorrow marked the weekend, and he had promised he’d pick Keke up tonight to bring her home.

Tong Keke packed her simple belongings and propped her little chin on her hands, sitting by her dorm window and staring at the road below.

Her small face brimmed with anticipation!

Suddenly, she caught sight of a familiar figure—tall and upright, standing out in the crowd like a beacon.

Tong Keke’s face inexplicably grew warm, and she instinctively covered her cheeks with her hands.

Uncle is here!

Gu Qianxi, familiar with the way, reached her dormitory door. Before he could knock, the door swung open, revealing Tong Keke’s delicate and sweet face, glowing with a smile.
