Chapter 43 - 43: Refuse to Admit Even in Death

"Grandma, did you want to speak to me about something?" Huo Anya asked, putting on the demeanor of an innocent girl.

Mrs. Huo asked sternly, "Anya, Miss Lin just mentioned that she attended the party you hosted last night and said that you were drugged. Do you know what this is about?"

"Grandma, how could that be possible? She must be talking nonsense," Huo Anya was shocked to her core. She hadn't anticipated that Lin Banxia would have the audacity to go straight to Grandma to accuse her, and in her panic, she immediately turned the tables.

Mrs. Huo furrowed her brows, "She has evidence in her hands, and Qi Han is also a witness. You'd better explain this matter quickly."

Huo Anya felt even more frightened; although Grandma usually doted on her, this was, after all, a matter that crossed the line into illegality.

Lin Banxia kept sobbing, "If this matter doesn't reach a resolution, I will report it to the police. I believe the police will give me justice."

"Lin Banxia, stop spouting nonsense! Who would drug you? Maybe you recklessly took something outside and now you're trying to frame me!" Upon hearing mention of reporting to the police, Huo Anya became more unnerved and instantly lashed out angrily at Lin Banxia.

Mrs. Huo was a shrewd person; seeing the situation unfold, she already had a solid guess in her heart.

"Enough, Anya. Have all the rules I taught you been completely forgotten?" Mrs. Huo rebuked harshly.

Huo Anya instantly adopted the look of someone terribly wronged, whining, "Grandma..."

"That's enough, Banxia. Grandma will give you a proper explanation on this matter. You may leave for now." Mrs. Huo felt her head pounding, troubled. These younger generations were all so unruly.

Lin Banxia sneered inwardly; she suspected that Mrs. Huo saw everything clearly but would inevitably shield her granddaughter.

"Grandma, if even you can't make this right for me, then I'll have no choice but to take the evidence to the police station and file a report." Lin Banxia knew it sounded like a threat. In truth, she had no intention of actually reporting—her so-called evidence was fake. If investigated, it might reveal that she had been with Huo Yanting the night before. That would lead to far bigger trouble.

Upon hearing mention of the police, Mrs. Huo grew anxious and quickly comforted her, "Banxia, don't worry about this matter. Grandma will make sure justice is served for you. Go home for now; I know you've been wronged."

Huo Anya was frozen with fear, her body stiff; she didn't dare raise her head.

Lin Banxia nodded and turned to leave.

As soon as she walked out, Mrs. Huo yelled furiously, "Get down on your knees and tell me honestly—was it you?"

"Grandma, it wasn't me..." Huo Anya tried to defend herself but sounded guilty.

"Hmph! Do you think I don't know your temper? You're definitely hung up on how she embarrassed you last time, making you lose face in front of everyone. So you concocted this plan to harm her, didn't you? Anya, for someone so young, you've developed quite the vicious heart. Your mother has truly failed in raising you right!" Mrs. Huo's temper flared as she extended her criticism to Anya's mother.

Huo Anya had initially hoped to use some sweet talk to get past this, but now it seemed Grandma was truly angry.

"Grandma, do you understand how those people outside talk about me? They say I deliberately pushed Lin Banxia, that I'm cruel-hearted and disdain her low-born background. I'm so wronged! I'm not as terrible as they make me out to be!"

Mrs. Huo huffed angrily, "So what? You set up this trap to frame her? Is your brain full of water? Are you still not satisfied with how much disgrace you've already brought to the Huo family? If she really takes her evidence to the police station, then you'll be hauled off to jail."

Huo Anya turned pale upon hearing that and immediately rushed forward, dropped to her knees, and clung to Grandma's leg, crying desperately, "Grandma, please save me! I know I was wrong, and I swear I won't dare do anything like this again. You must stop Lin Banxia from reporting this to the police. I'm still young; I can't go to prison. If I do, my whole life will be ruined."
