Evolution Online: I Can Fuse With All Things-Chapter 55: Journey To The Rhamiran Federation
Chapter 55: Journey To The Rhamiran Federation
From Thelvaine, they entered Thornveil, which led them straight to the outskirts of The Rhamiran Federation.
This journey took a few in-game days, and Lucien had to log out multiple times to handle different tasks at various times. The primary reason was that he couldn’t use more than fifteen hours consecutively.
During his logged-out hours, he went to the gym where he’d enrolled for a martial arts class. Many people these days had established such places, preaching about how crucial it was to strengthen your body to become powerful in the game.
Of course, many people saw this as ponzi schemes—a way for people to market their gyms. But Lucien thought differently; he wanted to learn martial arts and train his body, hoping any of it would help.
It was the gem he’d found. But it was easier said than done. The first day left every fiber of his muscles, especially his arms and shoulders, feeling insanely heavy.
After that, he logged in and spent another four days on the road, making it a total of eight days traversing the entirety of Thornveil—a mystical and labyrinthine forest, the second largest in the whole Western Continent.
Throughout his journey, he was constantly grinding and trying to level up, but that had become much more difficult. His situation worsened after killing a level 120 Guardian rank; now, it was difficult for Normal ranks, Elite ranks, and Boss ranks to satisfy the hunger of his fusion points—and that was all he was encountering since he left Mist of the Forgotten.
He did manage to level up three times, though—with eight days of relentless grinding.
He was finally standing at the forest’s edge, a stone’s throw away from the colossal walls that barricaded the Rhamiran Federation.
Lucien stared from the tall tree on the cliff where he stood—he could see a backdrop of roofs behind the walls. His eyes were razor-sharp; the walls were a kilometer away, and he could see people walking into the city as the city guards stopped them, searched them, and demanded something from them.
Lucien exhaled and then looked at Gayanna, who was sitting on one of the tree’s branches, dangling her long, slender legs.
Her clothes were in a more tattered state than when they’d started. She’d even had to rip off the lower part and throw her sandals away. Walking on bare ground left her with several brutal scars, but they disappeared almost as quickly as they appeared.
And Gayanna paid no attention to the harshness.
He exhaled after long study and asked:
"What do you think?"
Gayanna took her time munching the green fruit she was eating, then she softly landed on the ground.
"Isn’t this where you’ve always wanted to come? What else is there to think about rather than just go? I’m curious about how much human civilization has grown. Also, of all ten scouts we sent out, only four came back. I’m very curious what happened to the other six."
Lucien looked at her.
"You mean when you guys awakened?"
She nodded.
"We had to understand the state of the world before taking a step. So we sent out scouts."
Lucien turned his gaze back to the view beyond the forest. Then he exhaled.
’Alright, I think I’m ready to face the rest of this world.’
He turned to Gayanna.
"Hey, are you sure you want to go to a human settlement like that? With your bare legs?"
She looked up at his face, with a quizzical expression on hers.
"I mean, why not? But if you’re bothered about it, I can just go invisible and move with you."
Lucien winced.
"You can do that?"
"Boy, please... You need to do your research on who and what a Great Mage is."
Lucien released a forced smile.
"It’s strangely infuriating to find out this late. Who knows what you’ve been doing around me while invisible—besides, you could have saved me eight days of walking through hell!"
Gayanna stared back at him with half-closed eyes, her expression bored.
"You’ve grown balls, I swear."
Lucien bowed his head slightly.
"I’ve just gotten better at dealing with you."
And he meant it.
In the past eight days, Gayanna had stressed the hell out of his life and caused him to research ridiculous things, like:
"How do you travel with someone who thinks they’re better than you and actually is?"
"Can I report an NPC for verbal abuse?"
"What are appropriate compliments for elves with superiority complexes?"
"Can you file for divorce if you were never married but emotionally committed?"
"Can elves read minds, or is this one just that judgmental?"
"What’s the polite way to tell an elf they’re being rude?"
"Is it offensive to ask an elf if they bathe?"
"Do elves have empathy, or was it left out during development?"
"Is this what raising a teenager feels like?"
"Is being called "a bipedal disappointment" a racial slur in elf culture?" free𝑤ebnovel.com
"Why does my companion mock me every time I speak?"
"Why do I feel bullied by an AI-generated companion?"
"Am I her side character or is she mine?"
The forum responses had been wild, but they had one or two things to contribute regarding how he was able to maintain his sanity and slowly get better at handling her.
He’d say the forum had helped him out with his madness—or two.
Evolution Online, people would often say, changed them, changed their lives, and Lucien would look at them with scorn. But now, he understood deeply what the statement meant—he could even relate completely.
He exhaled, touching his head calmly before facing Gayanna.
"Either works, actually. You can choose to be visible or invisible—I don’t care. If it goes bad, I can just deny you. If it goes worse, you can just blow up the entire damn kingdom, right?"
Gayanna stared at him blankly for a couple of seconds. Then a sudden grin split her face.
"Gods, you really are getting used to being around me. I’m so flattered."
Lucien forced himself to maintain his amused expression.
’She’s insane. She is absolutely insane!’
