Evolution Online: I Can Fuse With All Things-Chapter 41: Divine Fragments
Chapter 41: Divine Fragments
[Welcome Back to Evolution Online]
It felt incredible to be back. Lucien’s heart hammered wildly in his chest. He exhaled and surveyed the Hall of Columns before passing the Respawn Altar and heading out.
It didn’t feel great that every time he returned to the game, he had to emerge through a lady’s leg.
Either way, Lucien tried not to dwell on it. The sun blazed radiant today, and as he stepped out of the cave, he felt the warm light caress his cheek. The details with 77% immersion fidelity were astounding. He could only imagine what it would be like with a gaming pod. Although he’d experienced one before, the sensation was easily forgettable.
What worried him instead was the pain sensitivity. He could swear the agony he experienced each time he received head damage was nowhere near 35%—that was far too intense to be 35%.
If that was what 35% felt like, then the Baleron Corps had to be doing something very sketchy... like cranking up pain ratios to torment people.
’But why would they do that?’
Right now, Lucien could find no answer to that question. He summoned the Grey Thread and dismissed his Whitesteel Shroud.
A grey garment materialized over his body. Deep grey ornate frog fastenings marched down the front of the high-collared tunic while the wide sleeves billowed like captured clouds. A silver sash cinched his waist with a soft knot, its twin tassels trailing down, and beneath it, loose-fitting trousers that disappeared behind the length of the garment completed the ensemble.
The entire outfit seemed to shimmer with an ethereal pale glow, as if woven from moonlight itself.
Lucien hadn’t expected anything so radiant. But this was incredible—absolutely incredible. The clothing was comfortable and allowed him to move his hands freely, making him realize just how heavy the Whitesteel Shroud had been. This was practically weightless.
Satisfied with his attire, Lucien began walking forward, inspecting his rewards as he moved. There was something particular he was eager to examine. Lucien had tried researching it on the forum while gathering information.
Countless blog posts covered the subject, but every piece only intensified his fascination with this particular reward.
Divine Fragments are said to be remnants of the old gods.
Evolution Online had intricate worldbuilding. Legend spoke of a time when the new generation of gods challenged the old generation, birthing the very concept of evolution and growth.
This war between the old gods and the new gods forged the world itself. In the end, some old gods were defeated and devoured by the new gods, while others vanished without a trace. But very few players have reportedly encountered something called divine fragments.
Over time, they’ve documented connections to the old gods—whether dead or alive, no one knew, because information about the gods and the War of the Beginning remained severely limited, considering the game’s main scenario hadn’t advanced much.
In fact, most blogger posts were speculations by professional archaeologists, historians, mythologists, and cultural anthropologists—real-world academics who had become captivated by Evolution Online’s intricate worldbuilding.
These weren’t casual gamers theorizing; they were respected scholars applying their expertise to decode the game’s mysteries, treating it as seriously as they would ancient civilizations or lost mythologies.
Universities had even begun hosting symposiums on "Digital Archaeology in Virtual Worlds," with Evolution Online serving as the primary case study.
The depth of lore embedded in the game had attracted genuine academic interest, leading to published papers and fierce debates in scholarly circles about the implications of the War of the Beginning, the true nature of divine fragments, and several other game elements.
And it just so happened that right off the bat, he’d received three of what typically occurred with a 0.001% drop rate.
The nine players who possessed divine fragments were the nine most powerful clans in Evolution Online.
Lucien was genuinely excited about these three divine fragments.
The first was the one he’d received from killing the Palebranch Kage. He summoned it and saw a white bone materialize in his hand—roughly the size of a pinky finger.
[DIVINE FRAGMENT: OSSYN’S BONE]
"The dead god’s marrow still remembers the weight of eternity."
Class: Divine Fragment – Ossified God Remnant
Binding: Permanent upon integration
Integration Status: Unintegrated.
[DIVINE TRANSFORMATION: Hollowbone Frame]
Your skeletal system has been rewritten by the ossified remnants of the Verdant Apostate Ossyn, the God of Stillness and Eternal Roots. Every bone in your body now carries divine density, ancient runes, and a stillness that defies motion itself.
[PHYSIOLOGY UPGRADES]
[Indestructible Skeleton]: Bones cannot be shattered by any physical or magical force beneath Tier 8.
[Internal Root Growth]: Roots of divine origin anchor you into reality. You are immune to forced displacement or knockback.
[Pulse Dampening]: You no longer produce sound when moving. Footsteps, heartbeat, and breath are muted completely.
[COMBAT ADAPTATION: Ossyn’s Rooted Wrath]:
- When standing still for 3 seconds or more, activate Rooted Wrath:
- Your next movement becomes instantaneous within a 30m radius (teleport-like effect).
- Enemies within 10m of your landing point suffer Spine Fracture, reducing agility by 50% and disarming for 1.5s.
Cooldown: 120 seconds.
[MENTAL EFFECT: Still Mind of the Hollow]:
- The god’s silence echoes in your thoughts. Your emotions are numbed; your mental defenses are fortified.
- Immune to mind-control, panic, and illusion-based effects below Tier 7.
- Gain +20% efficiency when meditating, planning, or calculating in combat.
[Mutation Warning: Your X-ray scan now reveals root-like tendrils growing along your spine and skull. Your bones emit faint blue luminescence in darkness. You are no longer considered fully human by the world logic. Certain NPCs may react differently.]
[Integration Tier: 1/5]
[Consuming additional fragments of Ossyn (Spine, Skull, Heart, Vein) will further your transformation toward [Divine Form: Ossyn Reincarnate].
[INFORMATION]
"Some say Ossyn never truly lost the battle with the Hollow God. But an entire forest of pale trees grew on his fossilized corpse. Ossyn might not have lost the battle, but in truth, he died that day."
Lucien was so overwhelmed he couldn’t take a step forward. He gulped and blinked hard.
The bone sat in his hand while all this information blazed before his eyes, and he could only blink at it all. Astounded.
It made perfect sense! It made absolute sense why divine fragments were such rarities! Was he even supposed to get one of these?! Not to mention three! A whopping three!!
Lucien’s expression trembled slightly, confusion and uncertainty warring across his features.
"I think something’s wrong with the game..."
