Chapter 737 - You Don’t Have to Sell Yourself Short (2)

Now that the dress for competition was finally done, Li Meili and Zhang Jiren had enough time to prepare the nursery for the baby before she gave birth.

Chairman Li had already sent dozens of gifts and toys for her baby girl that almost crowded one of their guestrooms. Since this was his first grandchild, the old man planned to spoil the little girl rotten.

Since they still had some spare rooms, the two decided to convert the room across the master bedroom into a proper nursery room.

"Come on, Meili. Don't you think you already overslept?" Zhang Jiren opened the door of their bedroom, gesturing to his wife to follow him across the hall.

Li Meili glared behind his back. Apparently, ever since she started showing up, she became grouchy whenever she failed to get what she wanted, and what she wanted right now was extra sleep.

Did Zhang Jiren have any idea how could she fall asleep when her baby decided it's playtime; kicking her bladder and ribs in ungodly hours? Finding a comfortable position to sleep was also almost impossible.

"Should we replace the hardwood flooring? I don't think it would be safe for you and Leyan," Zhang Jiren asked her as he stood next to the windowsill, his eyes sweeping the room.

Li Meili raised a slender brow at him. Was he serious? He wanted to replace the floor made of oak? This was the first time she heard someone complain about hardwood flooring in their home.

Well, he was loaded with money— not that she was broke anyway, but Li Meili found it unnecessary to tear a perfectly functioning floor. 𝒇𝑟𝐞𝐞w𝐞𝑏𝙣𝑜vℯl.co𝑚

"I don't know. I have no idea how to decorate nursery rooms," she said with a straight face.

'Lies!' her inner self scoffed. 'Didn't you help Moyu design the entire nursery room for her little buns?'

"Should we hire an interior designer then? We have to make sure everything is ready before Leyan comes," she heard her husband say while checking his email for work related queries.

"I know someone. She's the same person who helped Moyu decorate her home at Peach Blossom Garden. I don't think she would mind us hiring her service again this time," she responded before yawning, dragging herself to the couch inside the room next to the window.

From where she was seated, Li Meili gave Zhang Jiren a good look. Today, he was wearing a light blue dress shirt and a pair of black slacks. His hair was neatly combed but it was obvious that it had gotten longer with the ends almost touching his upper cheek.

His skin color was a few shades darker than most businessmen she'd met in the past, but with his tall stature and fit body, it made sense why that stupid Liu Ruoyan fell for his charm.

Was Zhang Jiren really this handsome up close? How come she never realized that she married a fine specimen of a man?

"Sounds great. Why don't you give her a call then and schedule a meeting with us?" Zhang Jiren then suddenly turned his head only to find her staring at him. "What?"

Li Meili immediately turned her gaze away from her husband and rested her chin on one hand.

"Nothing," she said nonchalantly, hoping he would drop the issue.

She had no idea how to explain to him why she was even staring at his face. This wasn't the first time she'd seen a handsome man. But her husband's features nagged at her. There was something about Zhang Jiren's face that she found familiar. She somehow thought his features looked similar to someone else's but couldn't remember with who or when and where she'd seen the person.

For the next few days, Zhang Jiren was obviously aware that his wife had been giving him odd looks whenever she thought he wasn't looking. He wondered what she thought of him now. Had she finally noticed that he was somewhat attracted to her?

He shook his head. He was probably overthinking. The last thing he wanted right now was to make her uncomfortable in this marriage she had with him. He feared that she would find him disgusting for harboring such thoughts and feelings for her.

One morning, Li Meili found him inside the baby's assigned bedroom. They had already met the interior designer the other day, but they needed to remove the wallpaper, as well as the queen size bed that was still inside the room before she could start working.

Zhang Jiren was seated on the floor, trying to assemble the baby crib on his own. With the instruction in one hand, he sorted the pieces according to its sizes.

"This is such a mess," Li Meili announced her arrival.

"Not really." Zhang Jiren gave her a glance before turning his attention back to the instruction manual.

"We've already got rid of the things that we don't need. What you see here are the things you brought along with the gifts your father sent for Leyan. Don't worry. Once we sort everything out, this place would look better."

"Oh?" Li Meili carefully went to the bed and took a seat, wanting to see how Zhang Jiren would assemble the crib for her baby as he was obviously committed to do it himself.

If people saw him like this right now, they would probably comment on how good a husband and father Zhang Jiren was. They would never assume that the baby he was laboring for wasn't even his own child. Weirdly, Li Meili felt that she wasn't willing to share Zhang Jiren with another woman or kid.

"Anyway, take a look at the pamphlet on the nightstand, Meili, and see if you can choose one from the wallpapers the decorator suggested."

Li Meili was already in the last trimester of her pregnancy and she might go into labor anytime soon, so Zhang Jiren had been mostly at home these days accompanying her. Thankfully, her pregnancy was coming along just fine and she never suffered another episode of fainting much to Zhang Jiren and Tang Moyu's relief.
