The sound fell abruptly into silence, and then the icy water seemed to be enraged, surging wildly as if it wished to devour everything in its path.
Lilith’s feeble, almost negligible struggle was quickly swallowed by the bone-chilling cold that felt capable of consuming all things.
‘Is this it… Is it really over just like that?’ Lilith stared at the lake’s surface as it grew ever more distant and increasingly blurred, an overwhelming sense of unwillingness welling up in her heart.
Could it be that after exhausting every last effort, the only thing awaiting her was such a pitiful ending? Was this the fate she was destined for, as someone burdened with countless sins?
“No, Lilith, it isn’t over yet.” A gentle whisper once again appeared beside Lilith’s ear. Unlike the earlier frigid voices, these were impossibly familiar and warm.
“You shouldn’t stop here.” A hand reached out from the darkness, gently supporting Lilith’s back.
“You should move forward, toward the light.” That hand lifted Lilith upward, yet the frozen lake raged in fury, an unfathomable and terrifying weight pressing down on her once more.
One hand was no longer enough to hold her up. Then two. Three… countless hands.
“Hey, letting that old Akarin steal all the spotlight would be pretty embarrassing.”
“By the Goddess above, may her light guide you forward.”
“As your senior brother, I should at least lend a hand.”
“Count me in too, Lilith.”
“And me…”
“…”
One familiar voice after another echoed by Lilith’s ear, one warm hand after another lifting her higher and higher. Upward. Upward. Higher still. To the place she was meant to go, to accomplish what she was meant to accomplish.
Lilith heard countless voices filled with hope reverberating within her soul, driving away the endless cold that threatened to consume her.
The frozen lake roared in vain, releasing terrifying waves of frost and chaotic noise, yet it still could not withstand the boundless power blooming from her cherished memories. In the end, nothing could restrain that petite figure any longer.
She no longer needed to carry a lantern, for all she saw was light. She no longer needed a cloak, for wind and snow no longer dared draw near. She no longer needed the red gemstone to guide her path, for from that moment onward, she was no longer lost.
And so, the crimson figure Lilith had been searching for all this time finally appeared before her. She turned around, looking at Lilith, who was no longer disheveled, and smiled with boundless tenderness, “Lilith, will you still believe in me?”
“Of course, Mom.” The young girl smiled just as brightly, and the ice and snow of the world melted away. “I’ve always believed in you.”
“Then will you come over here?” She extended her hand toward the girl. “Even if things on this side are not beautiful.”
“The world has never been beautiful, has it? It is cruel, cold, and unfathomable, delighting in toying with people without mercy. It always delivers suffering when you least expect it. But even so, I still love it deeply. I love them even more, and I love you most of all.” The girl spoke with heartfelt devotion.
“I love you too, Lilith.”
“Yes, I know. I’ve known that for a very, very long time.” And so, without any further hesitation, the girl reached out and grasped that hand of redemption.

“Lilith, what are you doing? Hurry up and use the black flames to kill her. Kill Regalis!”
Seeing that the Dragon Queen had actually embraced Lilith instead of knowing her place, Gerald could not help but feel a surge of delight. She had clearly shattered the black crystal, yet at such a crucial moment she exposed such a massive opening. He did not know whether to call her foolish or naïve.
But either way, this was the perfect opportunity.
“Lilith! What are you standing there for? Regalis has nowhere left to run. You just need to release the darkness at close range. Release it straight ahead of you.”
Lilith did not respond for a long time. Gerald assumed she had failed to understand his intent, so he began issuing his commands in even greater detail. But… Lilith still did not move.
“What’s going on?” Gerald frowned in confusion. He looked at the Dragon Queen, covered in blood and clearly at the end of her strength, and wondered if Regalis had done something again.
But he had been watching Regalis the entire time. No matter how powerful she was, it should have been impossible for her to pull any tricks right under his nose.
“Lilith, what exactly are you doing? Are you forcing me to remelt you later and—”
“Shut up!” A cold rebuke abruptly cut off Gerald’s roar.
The moment he heard that voice, Gerald froze for an instant, and then his enormous draconic body began to tremble uncontrollably.
“No… that’s impossible…”
Because the one who had shouted was Lilith. But Lilith was supposed to be nothing more than a puppet. How could a puppet possibly rebuke its master?
“That’s impossible!” Gerald roared in disbelief. “You’ve been corroded by my ancient runes for nine million years. Those runes should have controlled every inch of your soul. How could you possibly—”
“I said… shut up!”
Lilith’s once-empty expression was now replaced by agony. A faint glimmer of light flickered within her vacant eyes, her petite body shaking violently as if something was breaking free, reclaiming control over her soul.
Golden runes wriggled across her soul like worms, trying to suppress the rebound once more, yet they could no longer withstand the powerful will surging up from the depths of her soul. 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦
“You b̲a̲s̲t̲a̲r̲d̲… who do you think… I am!”
Under the onslaught of that indomitable will, which tore at the soul without regard for damage, the golden runes were annihilated one by one. At the same time, Lilith began bleeding from all seven orifices due to the backlash at the soul level, her consciousness barely holding together.
Even so, she forced her gaze to move, staring ferociously at the true culprit behind everything.
“I am… the Dragon Princess… Lilith! And you… what kind of thing… do you think you are… to dare… control me!”
As her final roar fell, something seemed to shatter along with it. A crisp cracking sound echoed in everyone’s ears as the layers of shackles binding her soul finally vanished completely.
Lilith was free once more.
“This… how is this possible…”
Realizing that everything was beyond salvage, Gerald staggered backward several steps, unable to accept the outcome.
How could he accept it?
In his countless calculations and plans, he had accounted for nearly every possibility, including the Dragon Queen’s betrayal. Yet the one thing he had never considered was the possibility that Lilith could break free of the ancient runes on her own.
Since when could a puppet sever its own strings?
Yet the truth stood right before his eyes, leaving him no choice but to believe it. And almost immediately, he realized what he needed to do now.
Run. Run as fast as possible. Now that Lilith had broken free, his greatest trump card was gone. If he stayed here any longer, he would undoubtedly die.
With that thought, Gerald hesitated no longer. He moved at full speed, attempting to escape through the gap in the formation that Lilith had previously devoured.
But the moment he turned around, he saw endless black flames silently floating before him. They sealed off every path of retreat.
