Book 6: Chapter 108: Light

Lilith looked up in shock.

At some point, all the clamor had vanished.

The distance between her and those dancing burly swans widened with every breath, as though an invisible chasm had opened between them. Soon, only faint, flickering points of warm light remained.

Then, the world sank once more into darkness.

From within that darkness, three familiar figures suddenly emerged once again.

But this time, their lovely faces no longer showed the earlier frenzy or cruelty—only serene smiles.

They looked at Lilith and repeated the same question.

“Lilith, are you happy?” Lesiah asked.

“I… I suppose so.”

“Lilith, are you truly happy?” Ciel pressed.

“I… think so.”

“Lilith, are you very sure you are happy?” Luna asked last.

“I…”

The scene suddenly changed and she found herself facing a mirror.

In its reflection, Lilith saw herself—bewildered, disheveled, eyes swollen red as she scratched her head in frustration, stumped by the simple question.

Her reflection slammed her fist on the table, roaring furiously. “Why! I already answered! Why do you keep asking me the same thing?!”

But the three didn’t relent. Their voices overlapped as they repeated in unison, “Lilith, are you happy?”

“I…”

Countless fragments of memory suddenly flooded her mind, forming a wonderful picture that depicted her entire past.

There were moments of laughter, of freedom and carefreeness… and then, of pain. 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂

Like an old film reel, her life played out frame by frame before her eyes.

She lowered her gaze and looked at her hands.

They were empty, yet she could feel something resting there… That invisible weight had a name.

—Happiness.

“Yes… I was happy,” Lilith replied. “At least, I was once truly happy, and that happiness was real.”

“But what about now?” they asked.

“But now?” Lilith stared blankly at her open palms, murmuring, “I’ve lost it.”

She had lost it and couldn’t find it back.

So she kept walking through the darkness.

“You haven’t lost it—we’re still here!”

From the distance, a voice called out, warm and beckoning.

“Come to us, Your Highness! Here, you’ll find the happiness you’ve been searching for!”

“You…”

Lilith looked toward the light. In this cold, endless dark, that glow was unbearably inviting.

“You can come to us too,” Lesiah, Ciel, and Luna said together, extending their hands with a beautiful smile on their faces. “Come with us, and you’ll also find the happiness you seek.” ȐANỘ𝐛ЁŞ

The light behind them blossomed, drawing her in like a moth to a flame.

“I…”

Lilith hesitated.

“Why are you hesitating? Your happiness is right there, isn’t it?” Akarin whispered close to her ear. His voice was low and tempting, like the serpent that lured Eve to eat the forbidden fruit.

“Say yes, and you’ll finally be free.”

“Yes… what am I hesitating for?” Lilith scratched her head in frustration. “What I’ve been chasing is right in front of me… isn’t it? But I—”

Lilith suddenly froze.

She saw that mirror again.

Only now, reality and reflection seemed reversed. Rage twisted her features, while the image within the glass looked back at her with pity—almost sorrowful.

“Y-You have no right to look down on me!” Lilith roared. “All I want is happiness—is that wrong?!”

Under that gaze, her shame curdled into fury. She struck the mirror with all her strength.

As the glass shattered, she saw her reflection’s lips moved.

*Is it true?*

*Is it true, Lilith?*

*Is what you’re chasing now… truly happiness?*

“I—”

Lilith clutched her head. She squeezed her eyes shut, her voice breaking into a hoarse cry.

But no matter how hard she tried to convince herself, the same question echoed endlessly in her mind like a curse.

*Is it true? Is it true? Is it true? Is it true? Is it true? Is it true? Is it true?*

“Of course it’s not true! Not true! Not true! Not true!”

Lilith’s eyes snapped open. The confusion was gone. The frailty that had clouded her moments before seemed like nothing more than a mirage.

Now, a furious dragon stirred within her gaze, yearning to break free and roar defiantly at this cold, indifferent world.

“What I want now isn’t happiness.,” she declared, voice trembling with fire. “Those fleeting moments of joy I once had… were enough!”

This childish game had long since ended, but her subconscious refused to let go.

But she knew she couldn’t stay weak forever, because someone… is waiting for her to come home!

Snap.

Like a switch being flipped, something inside her shifted.

The warm, distant glow—the supposed salvation just beyond the three women—began to fade, dimming until it vanished entirely.

“What a pity, Your Highness. You’ve chosen the hardest path,” Akarin sighed.

“Darkness will shroud your way,” Lesiah murmured.

“The blizzard will never cease,” Ciel lamented.

“And monsters will always hunger for your flesh and blood,” Luna whispered, eyes full of pity.

“Even so… do you still refuse to yield?” Akarin asked softly, sincerely seeking an answer from her like a believer awaiting divine truth.

“Of course.”

Lilith swept her gaze at the illusory, yet real figures before her. But this time, her heart no longer wavered.

“Is that so? I see.” Akarin smiled, calm and satisfied like a gardener watching his long-tended seedling finally grow into a towering tree.

“Then I suppose I shouldn’t be stingy.”

He removed the lid from the silver tray before Lilith.

Inside, a blood-red gem pulsed with light.

“This will guide you toward your heart’s desire,” Akarin said.

“This will drive away the darkness,” Lesiah added, handing Lilith her lantern.

“This will shield you from wind and rain,” Ciel said, giving her a gray cloak.

“This will help you defeat the monsters,” Luna added, placing a leash in her hand.

And so, Lilith stepped forward into the darkness—lantern in one hand, leash in the other, the cloak draped over her shoulders, while the crimson gem floated ahead, lighting her way.

“Farewell, Your Highness,” Akarin said, bowing deeply, a hand over his heart as his figure began to fade. “We are only phantoms. From here on, you must walk alone. May you find what you truly seek.”

“May you discover new happiness along your journey.”

“May you live without regret.”

“May you travel safely.”

The three women waved, bidding her farewell.

“Yes, I will.” Lilith nodded firmly.

After watching their figures fade away, Lilith turned back toward the path ahead.

Light pierced the darkness once more, illuminating her way forward.
