Chapter 196: Chapter 189: New Beginnings (Part 2)

Lou Jing glanced towards the direction where Wu Chengzu left and teased, "What? Someone you met on the plane? Looks pretty good! A sexy uncle!"

Cheng Shishi also straightened from Bai Yiran’s embrace, nodding vigorously, "Yeah yeah! He’s the popular ’uncle type’ these days!"

Bai Yiran glanced at the two of them irritably, "What are you talking about? We didn’t even exchange phone numbers. Stop imagining things!"

"Tch! He seems perfectly fine!" Lou Jing pursed her lips.

"Exactly, exactly!" Cheng Shishi chimed in.

"Let’s go!"

Wang Chenyang was waiting with the car at the entrance. When he saw Bai Yiran coming out with Lou Jing, he was amazed. He hadn’t expected her to look even more beautiful, or perhaps more mature, appearing quite different from her old self.

Bai Yiran greeted Wang Chenyang happily, and he responded dumbfoundedly. Lou Jing got annoyed seeing his dazed look; she yelled at him to load Bai Yiran’s luggage into the trunk while pulling Bai Yiran into the car.

Wang Chenyang nodded in agreement with Lou Jing, blushing as he put Bai Yiran’s luggage in the trunk.

"Sister Lou Jing, why is your boyfriend blushing?" Cheng Shishi asked from the car, watching Wang Chenyang load the luggage.

Lou Jing blinked, "Who knows about him."

The group made their way back to Grandma’s house, where seeing another granddaughter made Grandma especially emotional. She hugged Bai Yiran and cried for a long time, making everyone feel a pang of sourness, and it was only after Uncle’s comforting did Grandma finally calm down.

The whole family plus Lou Jing and Wang Chenyang sat down for a meal. During the dinner, the conversation was centered around interesting things Bai Yiran encountered abroad, yet they deliberately avoided mentioning one person or anything related to that person.

After the meal, Bai Yiran saw off Lou Jing and Wang Chenyang. Lou Jing intentionally sent Wang Chenyang away, leaving just her and Bai Yiran.

"Are you planning to leave again this time?" Lou Jing asked, holding onto Bai Yiran’s arm as they strolled slowly down the street.

"I probably won’t leave." Bai Yiran looked down at her feet, she had a premonition, feeling like she knew what Lou Jing would ask next.

"Does he know you’re back?"

This was the first time since Bai Yiran returned that he was brought up, she gently shook her head, "No." Bai Yiran smiled, "I didn’t tell him."

"Are you really not planning to see him?" Lou Jing pressed on, "Your child is gone, and I think that must be a heavy blow for him too. The guilt he feels alone is enough to torment him. When you left, he was frantically looking for you everywhere; it was the first time I saw Leng Yichen like that, so pitiful and helpless. Actually, from a friend’s perspective, I blame him for not protecting you well. But as a bystander, I also pity him; after all, the price he paid for revenge was indeed too great."

Bai Yiran kept her head down, not speaking. She knew Lou Jing’s words were true; this matter couldn’t place all the blame on Leng Yichen. However, there was a barrier in her heart she couldn’t get past.

Thinking back to that incident a year and a half ago, when she opened her eyes again it was a day later. She thought she was a goner. The police came to her as soon as she woke up for a statement since she was the only one who survived after encountering Nawa.

Why Nawa let her go became a mystery.

This mystery was something even Bai Yiran didn’t know the reason for. She never thought she would survive. At that time, the gun was pressed tightly against the back of her head, and it was the first time she felt death so closely. Maybe it was just a moment, and she fainted, so perhaps she didn’t even feel any pain.

For the police’s questions, Bai Yiran couldn’t provide many answers. The person who kidnapped her was Yin Hao, who had already been killed by Nawa.

As for Nawa, Bai Yiran didn’t see his face; all she saw were those shiny black leather shoes and the snake-shaped birthmark on his ankle, nothing more.

During that time, Gao Sheng had frantically burst in once; if it wasn’t for Leng Yichen stopping him, maybe Bai Yiran’s injuries would have worsened. Gao Sheng crazily questioned Bai Yiran about Nawa’s whereabouts, refusing to believe her no matter how she insisted she didn’t know. He seemed possessed.

Actually, the whole thing was difficult to comprehend. For so long, Nawa seemed more like a code name; no one had seen Nawa’s true appearance. Everyone who knew who Nawa was was dead, and even the police didn’t have a clear picture of him. So why did Nawa kill everyone, even sparing none of Yin Hao’s aides, yet inexplicably let Bai Yiran go? The conclusion was something to ponder deeply.

In the end, Gao Sheng was forcibly taken away by his colleagues. His mission failed, and Nawa was still at large. The only person who had contact with Nawa, Bai Yiran, didn’t know what he looked like. Coupled with the charge of harassing a witness, Gao Sheng was ousted from his position as the anti-narcotics captain.

In the end, Bai Yiran’s child couldn’t be saved. The child she had protected with all her might was gone overnight, and Bai Yiran’s emotions collapsed in an instant.

Bai Yiran didn’t want to recall those painful times again. She looked up at Lou Jing, "Let’s not talk about the past anymore." 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮

Lou Jing timely shifted the topic, asking Bai Yiran when she would return to help at the café since now the suburban area was developed so well and their business was much better than before. Bai Yiran looked apologetic, while abroad she met her university professor, and now this professor has left the school to start his own company. During the preparation phase, they lacked manpower and wanted Bai Yiran to help, which she found quite tempting.

Bai Yiran stuck out her tongue playfully at Lou Jing; she knew Lou Jing would definitely agree to it.

The lights were off in the study; Leng Yichen’s eyes appeared even brighter in the dark, as he had just received the news: she was back.

Girl, this time there’s no way you’re leaving again!
