Chapter 147: Chapter 147: Gu An’s Goodwill, Whoever Wants to Go Can Go

Yang Chan saw Gu An, the Hall Master of the Medicine Hall, again on the second day of his return.

After Gu An returned, he arranged for many people from the Medicine Hall to leave the Sect mountain, though for what purpose, no one knew.

Even some Pharmacists from the Medicine Hall and Pharmacy had left, leaving Yang Chan and the others completely baffled as to why.

Everyone who had gone to Yu State had already returned, which clearly meant they were no longer involved with the No-Life Evil Cult there. Yet now, this new development made many feel flustered and uneasy.

However, upon learning that no conflict had broken out at their destinations, everyone felt much more at ease. It was obvious the Cyan Yuan Sect was preparing for something.

Yang Chan arrived at Gu An’s residence. It was far larger and more luxurious than his place in Tan City.

The residence in Tan City was merely temporary, whereas his home within the Cyan Yuan Sect had been custom-built. This was true not only for Gu An but for most Hall Masters and Elders as well.

The Cyan Yuan Sect was no place for asceticism; the notion of simple, crude living quarters had nothing to do with it. Every time Yang Chan’s status rose, his own residence received a major upgrade, growing larger and more luxurious.

He had even made his own preparations in his residence, such as building a secret room and setting up various traps.

Gu An’s courtyard was naturally larger and grander than his own, spacious enough to accommodate many people.

There were also many attendants in his courtyard. These were specially selected individuals, not Servant Disciples, but people who answered exclusively to Gu An.

After becoming a Basic Level Pharmacist, Yang Chan was also entitled to select servants. However, because he wanted to install various things inside his home, he had opted not to.

These were precautions he took because his Cultivation was insufficient, and he didn’t feel entirely safe.

"Greetings, Hall Master."

Yang Chan said with a cupped-fist salute upon seeing Gu An sipping tea in the courtyard.

Gu An appeared quite relaxed, but Yang Chan noticed a subtle change in his breathing rhythm—something he had only become sensitive to after practicing the Flood Dragon Demon Breath Method.

When practicing the Flood Dragon Demon Breath Method, one’s breathing falls into a specific pattern. By following this pattern, one could appear to be resting while actually engaging in Cultivation, performing the Inner Refining of the Lungs and Spleens.

This was far more convenient than External Cultivation; it was practically integrating Cultivation into daily life.

Gu An had clearly reached this stage, which meant his Inner Refining of the Lungs and Spleens had already reached a very high level.

"You’re here. Have a seat."

Gu An said upon seeing Yang Chan, gesturing to a nearby chair.

His attitude was very casual, as if he considered Yang Chan one of his own.

After their last conversation, his impression of Yang Chan had improved, and so had his attitude.

"Thank you, Hall Master!"

Seeing this, Yang Chan didn’t hesitate and sat down directly.

If they were in the Government Office, he would have had to ponder the intention behind Gu An’s words. But within the Cyan Yuan Sect, that wasn’t necessary; things hadn’t reached that level of complexity yet.

He had inquired about Gu An’s history and personality. By all accounts, the man was straightforward, decisive, and would address problems directly.

Since Gu An told him to sit, there was no need to be diffident.

"There will be a lot going on in the Cyan Yuan Sect recently, but it shouldn’t involve you for the time being. Use this period to improve your Pharmacist Abilities. If you can advance to Intermediate Pharmacist sooner rather than later, an unexpected opportunity will come your way."

Gu An didn’t waste time on pleasantries with Yang Chan and got straight to the point. Though he didn’t spell everything out, he offered a few hints.

"Of course, just do your best. If it doesn’t work out, it won’t affect anything. You don’t need to drive yourself crazy over improving your Pharmacist Ability."

He added this to tell Yang Chan not to push himself too hard.

He said this because it was a good opportunity, and he didn’t want it to turn into a bad situation. The loss would outweigh the gain.

His intention was simply to give Yang Chan a helpful tip, not to pressure him.

"Thank you for your high regard, Hall Master. This disciple will do his best."

A look of pleasant surprise appeared on Yang Chan’s face. He cupped his fist in gratitude, looking thoroughly encouraged.

It was as if he was genuinely delighted to be held in high esteem by Gu An.

"I didn’t call you here today for anything else, really. I just wanted to see if there’s anything you need. Feel free to mention it. If it’s something I can help with, I’ll arrange for someone to assist you..."

Gu An said quite a bit, the underlying meaning of which was to win over Yang Chan and deepen their relationship.

He was very optimistic about Yang Chan’s talent as a Pharmacist and didn’t mind offering a bit of help. For him, it was a simple matter of a few words.

Yang Chan, in turn, responded with a look of immense gratitude, as if he were deeply moved.

Only after Yang Chan returned to his residence did his brow furrow slightly.

’Becoming an Intermediate Pharmacist quickly will bring an opportunity... Don’t tell me they’re planning some kind of Pharmacist Assembly?’

The thought surfaced in Yang Chan’s mind.

Within the Cyan Yuan Sect, becoming an Intermediate Pharmacist led to a significant increase in benefits and status, but there were no other major changes to speak of, certainly no mention of special ’opportunities’.

If the opportunity wasn’t within the Cyan Yuan Sect, then it was likely something like the Pharmacist Assembly. These events were held every few years for Pharmacists to network, refine elixirs, exchange medical techniques, and discuss pharmacology.

Yang Chan had naturally heard about such events from Zhao Yi. He had never been, though. The Cyan Yuan Sect was qualified to attend, but not everyone could go; only a select few would be chosen to represent the Sect.

Zhao Yi had mentioned the Pharmacist Assembly more than once, so the memory was quite clear in Yang Chan’s mind.

’An event like the Pharmacist Assembly could be a hassle. I should just stick to improving my Martial Arts Cultivation step-by-step. There’s no hurry to advance as a Pharmacist.’

’If my Martial Arts Cultivation hasn’t broken through to the Inner Refining of the Lungs and Spleens stage, leaving the mountain is still too dangerous. If I run into some grand conspiracy, I’ll be trapped.’

These were Yang Chan’s thoughts; he still had no intention of rapidly advancing his rank as a Pharmacist. If he could avoid the Pharmacist Assembly altogether, that would be even better.

For other Pharmacists, networking with Pharmacists from other sects could lead to significant gains. But for Yang Chan, it was completely unnecessary. If he wanted to improve, he could simply add some Potential Points for a much better result.

Besides, the Potential Points he would miss out on just from traveling to an event like the Pharmacist Assembly would be enough for a significant upgrade. Even if he did gain something there, it would surely pale in comparison to the lost Potential Points. Thus, the event held absolutely no appeal for Yang Chan; in fact, he wanted to avoid it at all costs.

If Zhao Yi and the others liked that sort of thing, then they could go! Whoever wanted to go, could go!

However, based on what Gu An said, there was still plenty of time before the Pharmacist Assembly would begin. He was in no rush. He could just continue improving his Cultivation according to his original plan. After all, strength was the ultimate safeguard. Only with strength could he hope to resist when facing danger.
