Era of the transmigrating earth-Chapter 2024: The Guild’s Ultimatum
"Everyone, let’s discuss the matter. The Shadow Guild’s power is growing stronger, and we need to figure out how to deal with them next. If their strength continues to increase, it might threaten our rule."
The City Leader had a hint of embarrassment on his face, as he was the one who initially suggested supporting the Shadow Guild.
"I think they can’t just speak for themselves. First, we supported them, and now we want to suppress them. That might not be good," someone next to him said immediately, making the City Leader’s expression even more unpleasant.
"It’s not just my personal matter anymore; it’s everyone’s matter. Many civilians have already sided with them, and nearly a third of the adventurers in the city are Shadow Guild members. They’ve even gained substantial influence in other cities. If they continue to develop, all of your positions here will be in jeopardy."
These words weren’t alarmist, as many cities and City Alliances are no longer controlled by the original City Leaders. They are often controlled by guilds that have grown up, and this is a very common situation.
So their concerns are not unfounded but are genuinely valid.
Another person spoke up, "But hasn’t it been a short time? I believe they won’t do such things. Otherwise, their attitude would’ve long been apparent. After all, they’re already the most powerful force."
This was actually a Shadow Doppelganger who had been controlled due to their high status, and their words were still influential. Others, after hearing them, began to waver again in their previously firm stance.
The City Leader glanced at this guy—he’s usually quite smart, so how could he be so dense about this matter? Could it be that he’s received benefits from someone? That’s not impossible.
"I don’t want to damage our reputation and image, but continuing like this is too dangerous. I’ve received messages from other City Leaders about forming an alliance, and we need to take some action. If we don’t suppress the Shadow Guild’s development, the consequences will be unimaginable." The City Leader straightforwardly involved other cities, which wasn’t entirely a lie.
"What? City Leader, you’ve actually united with other cities. You wouldn’t have taken benefits from them, would you?"
Can this kind of thing be said publicly? Is this guy an idiot? Everyone looked at this guy.
Then another person jumped in and said, "Are our relations with other cities that good? Once the Shadow Guild is suppressed, our city’s strength won’t be a match for theirs and will be annexed."
Is this a confrontation with the City Leader? The City Leader felt that today’s meeting was so strange; why do some clowns keep jumping out? Generally smart people, why are you being idiots now?
Or have they always been like this, and I just didn’t notice?
Just when the City Leader was about to say something, suddenly a group of people entered the City Lord’s Mansion.
"What are you trying to do? Who let you in?" The City Leader was puzzled because he hadn’t received any notification from the guards. In this situation, either the guards have been dealt with or the guards have already betrayed.
As for shirking duties, he didn’t believe that. After all, this was a meeting, and during a meeting, guards are supposed to surround the area. Even if a few guards shirk duties, not all of them could possibly do so.
"Dear City Leader, hello, I am the leader of the Shadow Guild. You can call me Yinying." This clearly wasn’t a name but rather a code name, and many people like using code names.
In fact, especially for powerful beings, people rarely call them by their real names; using code names or titles is more appropriate.
"Shadow Guild members? Who permitted you to trespass into the City Lord’s Mansion." The City Leader’s face became even more grim.
These guys didn’t typically behave well; otherwise, they wouldn’t have been allowed to run rampant till now. Who would have thought they’d suddenly appear before him, almost like rebellion? Could they know I was planning on dealing with them? Was there someone tipping them off? No, today was a sudden meeting; no one knew in advance.
Furthermore, the plan to deal with them was just mentioned by himself. It’s impossible that he would tip them off. Even if someone has betrayed, there aren’t any signals being transmitted here.
He just didn’t know that these Puppet Doppelgangers and Shadow Doppelgangers were one and the same, without needing conventional means for contact. They could directly use spiritual communication to connect.
"Hehe, although I don’t know the specific matter, it seems like I overheard something; you all plan to deal with us, right?"
Before the City Leader could say anything, Yinying continued, "Originally, we wanted to give you a surprise, City Leader, that I have broken through to the high level tier. From now on, our city is one of the upper tier cities. However, your conduct made me very displeased." Upon hearing this, many people’s expressions changed.
A high level tier is not an ordinary rank, and they know more than ordinary people. Although using special powers in the native world is not allowed, only those with special contributions or identities are permitted to use it.
But there’s one exception: those who are above tier— they have privileges. Tier or above, as long as they don’t cause permanent harm to the native world, are allowed to freely use powers.
Hence those tier power holders can freely kill in this region. As for causing destruction, the world consciousness will control them directly. For completely controlled Puppets, the world consciousness won’t be concerned about what trouble they might cause.
"Well, that’s truly worth celebrating. I’ll host a banquet to congratulate you later."
The City Leader’s tone became stiff and dry, and a hint of bitterness flashed in his eyes; tier power holders— they’re the first in the nearby cities. As long as this one doesn’t have issues, then no one will be able to deal with them.
"No need, I’ll personally host the banquet. But the City Leader, you should step down from your position now. This isn’t us starting the fight; it’s you planning to deal with us." Yinying looked at him without hesitation.
Suddenly, a government official beside him immediately stood up and said, "I fully support the new City Leader’s decisions. That guy was truly incompetent; look at what he’s done over the years."
This guy was a controlled doppelganger, but with one person standing up to oppose, others started to gather and move over. It’s true that people don’t want to be the first out, but they also don’t want to stay and die here.
