Chapter 83: Chapter 83: You Don’t Believe Me?

Chloe instantly felt a tingling numbness spreading from her palm outward.

Startled, she quickly pulled her hand back. "What are you doing!"

Silas frowned innocently. "Isn’t that what I should be asking you? You asked me for a throat lozenge, but wouldn’t eat it—then forced it on me. Dr. Nash, are you suspecting there’s something wrong with this candy?"

Chloe couldn’t help but admire Silas’s intelligence.

Just noticing such a minor detail, and he could get straight to the heart of the problem.

Chloe made no attempt to hide it. "Yes, I’ve always been a light sleeper—any noise wakes me up. So how did the nurse manage to help me into bed last night without me realizing it?"

Hearing this, Silas let out a quiet laugh. "Dr. Nash, have you ever heard that a person can be another person’s cure? Sienna was just like you before: trouble falling asleep, very light sleep, any little noise would wake her up."

In high school, I bought her all kinds of supplements and calming medicine, but none of them worked. But after she started being with me, she started sleeping like a pig. You could toss her out and she wouldn’t wake up.

You’re a doctor. How would you explain that?

Chloe couldn’t help but clench her jaw.

It was because he wore her out—who could stand having to do it several times a day?

Every time they finished, she felt like her whole body was falling apart.

Sometimes, she’d already fallen asleep and Silas still hadn’t stopped.

She even dreamt that the ceiling was shaking above her in her sleep.

Back then she suspected Silas was a sex addict.

Otherwise, why would he be so crazy about it?

Chloe tried her best to hide her feelings, acting casual. "I’m a doctor. I only believe in medical science."

Silas just replied with a faint "oh." "If that’s the case, then I’ll show you whether there’s anything wrong with this candy—and how you explain what happened last night."

As soon as he finished, there was a sharp ’crunch’—he chewed the candy to bits.

In just a few moments, he swallowed it down.

Chloe watched him closely. She remembered that after she ate that candy last night, she fell asleep in just a few minutes.

But over ten minutes passed, and Silas’s eyes were still wide open, staring at her without blinking.

He didn’t look sleepy at all.

Was she really just overthinking it?

Could Silas really be her sleep miracle—just being close to him made her sleep so soundly?

Right then, Silas’s clear voice sounded by her ear.

"If Dr. Nash doesn’t believe me, I can eat the whole box and let you see if there’s any medicine inside."

He finished and opened the candy box, about to shove all of them into his mouth.

Chloe immediately snatched it out of his hands. "Are you crazy? Eating that many candies is bad for your wounds!"

Silas’s voice became low and gentle. "I’m just afraid you don’t believe me."

"I believe you. I was just overthinking. I apologize."

Hearing her say that, a look of pride flashed in Silas’s eyes.

But it was gone in a heartbeat.

He looked at Chloe sincerely. "So, you slept so well last night—doesn’t that mean I’m your sleep remedy?"

"Maybe I was scared yesterday, so I crashed—but tonight, that’s not happening."

"Oh? Then let’s wait and see tonight."

It was finally time for Silas to be discharged, and Chloe felt like she’d just been pardoned from prison.

She took Julian by the hand. "Julian, we’re going out today; Mommy’s going to buy you new clothes."

Julian clapped his little hands, super excited. "Yay, yay! Mommy buy for Julian, not for Daddy!"

"Okay, let’s go!"

Lucy Rhodes immediately followed behind, grinning. "Me too! I want new clothes!"

Seeing them all so happy, a rare smile appeared on Silas’s face.

He called out to Lucy Rhodes. "Lucy Rhodes!"

Lucy Rhodes stopped in her tracks, startled. She turned back. "Bro, I’m just worried it’s too much for Chloe to look after Julian alone—I’ll help her."

Silas took a card out of his wallet and handed it to her. "Dr. Nash has worked hard taking care of me, and you’re working hard helping with Julian. I’ll cover all expenses today."

Lucy Rhodes’s eyes went wide with excitement. She hurried to take the card and kissed it by her lips.

"Brother, you rock! Am I getting lucky because of Dr. Nash? Haha, don’t worry, I’ll put in a good word for you."

She patted Silas’s shoulder lightly, whispered something in his ear, and bounced off with the card, super cheerful.

Silas got in the car. The assistant handed him a stack of documents. "President Prescott, the MK Group’s drone project is over ten billion, and if we land it, our company’s profits will grow dozens of times a year. Their CEO’s been waiting two days; he said if we don’t sign soon, he’s giving the project to someone else."

These past days, Silas had only signed standard papers and took on no new work commitments.

This was his hard-earned chance to spend time alone with Chloe—he wasn’t letting work take it away.

That project was the company’s biggest of the year, but compared to Chloe, nothing else mattered.

Silas glanced at the documents. "Drop the profit margin by two percent as compensation for Mr. Bauer. We’ll sign at his hotel."

——

After a week cooped up in the hospital, Chloe felt like the air itself was sweet outside.

First, she took Julian out for Western food, then to the kids’ play zone.

Finally, they went shopping for clothes.

Julian, knowing Daddy was paying, tried to get Chloe to buy every pretty thing for herself.

"Mommy, this is cute, buy it!"

"Mommy, this necklace is pretty, buy it!"

But when Chloe saw the necklace was in the millions, she hurriedly scooped Julian up and left.

She kissed his rosy cheek. "Sweetheart, when you grow up and make money, then you can buy it for Mom, okay?"

Julian looked confused. "Daddy has money. Why not buy it while we can?"

Lucy Rhodes burst out laughing. "Julian’s got a point! Today, we’re milking your Daddy’s wallet till it’s empty!"

"Milk him dry! Milk him bald!" Julian clapped along happily.

"Come on, let’s go check out the family outfits. They’re adorable—let’s each buy one!"

Hearing they’d get to wear matching outfits with Mom, Julian was over the moon.

Big grin on his little face. "Matching with Mommy!"

In the end, they bought so much even Julian was carrying two bags in his little hands.

He even had one looped around his neck.

Walking by the restrooms, Chloe suddenly stopped. "I need to use the bathroom. Do you two need to go?"

Julian instantly raised his hand. "Me!"

Chloe set her things down on a seat. "Lucy, keep an eye on everything. We’ll be right back."

"Got it. And make sure—Julian should use the men’s room."

"I know."

Chloe held Julian’s hand, led him to the restrooms, and crouched down to remind him, "Julian, you go that way, Mommy’s going here. We’ll meet right back here. Don’t wander, okay?"

Julian nodded obediently. "Yep, I’ll wait for Mommy."

Then he trotted into the men’s room on his little legs.

Chloe had just pushed open the women’s restroom door when suddenly, she felt a blow to the back of her neck, and her whole body went limp and unconscious.
