Entangled in the Night: Unable to Escape Him-Chapter 50: The Real Chloe Nash Isn’t Allergic to Pollen
The next morning at dawn, Chloe was woken up by the ringing of her phone.
Half asleep, she fumbled to answer the call.
On the other end came Jett’s anxious voice.
"Chloe, why did you lie to me again? You promised to wait for me to help you, so why did you go to Silas? Don’t you know what kind of ruthless wolf he is?"
Chloe could tell Jett was really worried about her.
But she didn’t want to cause him any more trouble.
"Jett, just stay out of this. I don’t want you to take on your whole family because of me."
Jett pinched his brow angrily. "What kind of deal did you make with Silas?"
He knew all too well what sort of person Silas was. No one would believe this big game he was playing was without an ulterior motive.
Chloe replied, "I help his son with psychological treatment, and he helps me save my dad. When Julian gets better, he’ll let me go."
Jett sneered, "Chloe, you’re the frog being boiled alive. He’s using his son as an excuse to keep you by his side. The moment the time is right, he’ll make his move—he’s a wolf hiding in the shadows."
Chloe knew that was very possible too.
But right now, she had no other choice.
She’d promised the real Chloe to protect her family well.
She couldn’t go back on her word. Otherwise, she’d be letting down the real Chloe, who’d risked her life to save her.
Chloe steadied her emotions and said, "My husband’s coming back to the country soon. No one will tear us apart."
Jett felt a painful twist in his chest at those words.
Chloe clearly meant that for him too.
He let out a bitter laugh. "Chloe, you’re so cruel. Can’t you give me one more chance?"
"Jett, whatever reason we broke up five years ago, it’s in the past. I won’t abandon my family for anyone, or let down my son. I hope you can understand."
After hanging up, Jett lit a cigarette.
He knew, of course.
He just couldn’t give up that easily.
Two people who’d loved each other so much, yet forced apart because of family values.
All because he’d believed Chloe’s angry words back then, he’d ended up losing her.
Now she’d come back into his life. No matter what happened, he wouldn’t give up on chasing her again.
Just then, a message appeared on Jett’s phone.
[President Sterling, Dr. Nash’s mother was admitted to the hospital last night for sudden hypertension. She’s in Room 308.]
Reading it, Jett didn’t need to ask why Mrs. Nash was hospitalized.
It was definitely because Mr. Nash’s case was being blocked.
Phone still in hand, he strode right out the door.
Mr. Sterling saw him coming downstairs, shot him a cold glance. "If you don’t want your grandfather to die from the anger, then stay out of Nash Family business."
Jett looked at him with a trace of sarcasm, "You already got what you wanted. Chloe doesn’t need my help anymore—she’s gone to Silas. But once he gets involved, this case will come out, and everything Sterling Family has done will be exposed. Let’s see how you explain yourself then."
"Don’t worry, I’ll take care of it. You just stay out of it. And from now on, no more contact with Chloe. The engagement with the Winslow girl should move forward—you know your grandfather isn’t well, he wants to see you married before long."
Jett let out a cold laugh, "Why should my marriage be decided by you? You already destroyed one relationship for me, and now you want to ruin my whole life?"
With that, he ignored Mr. Sterling’s reaction and walked out directly.
Mr. Sterling, watching his back, snorted in rage. "He’s getting out of control! What’s so good about Chloe anyway? She isn’t half as pleasant to look at as the Winslow girl."
Mrs. Sterling quickly handed him a glass of water, spoke softly and comforted, "Don’t worry, Jett just got carried away for the moment. Give it some time, he’ll come around."
"Once Vincent Nash is in jail, let’s see if Chloe still has the nerve to cling to my son."
——
Silas showed up in Mrs. Nash’s hospital room early in the morning, carrying a breakfast box.
The man looked gentlemanly and refined, speaking gently: "Auntie, I brought you breakfast, all your favorites. Please try them."
Seeing him there, Mrs. Nash was a little surprised.
"Mr. Prescott, why are you here? Where’s Chloe?"
She knew Chloe must have made some deal with this man to save her father.
She was very worried about Chloe’s safety.
Silas calmly laid out the breakfast on the table, lips curved in a warm, gentle smile.
"Chloe is with Julian. She’ll be here soon. I just wanted to update you about Uncle’s case. The lawyer has been found and will meet with him in the next few days to get details. Don’t worry, I won’t let Uncle suffer injustice."
His words were so polite and modest, nobody would suspect there was something darker beneath the surface.
Even Mrs. Nash was fooled by his appearance and was moved to tears.
"Mr. Prescott, thank you. If you need money for the lawsuit, just tell me. I still have some. Chloe doesn’t have much."
At that, Silas smiled faintly, barely noticeable: "Doesn’t she have a husband? Plus, she treated my grandfather and I paid her ten million; she can easily cover the lawyers’ fees."
At those words, Mrs. Nash immediately clammed up in fright.
She had forgotten Chloe had a fake husband, and forgotten Chloe had received that huge medical fee.
But that money was already donated.
Mrs. Nash quickly lowered her head and ate, no longer daring to speak.
She realized Silas was only pretending to bring breakfast—in truth, he wanted to get information about Chloe.
Just as she was at a loss, the hospital room door opened.
Jett walked in holding a bouquet of flowers.
Mrs. Nash looked as if she’d seen a savior; she dropped her food and waved Jett over eagerly.
"Young Sterling, come in quickly!"
Hearing this affectionate way of being addressed, Silas couldn’t help but frown slightly.
Young Sterling, come in quickly.
Such a warm address, such an eager longing to see him.
But moments ago, she’d said to him, "Mr. Prescott, why are you here?"
Distant address, unwelcome tone.
It made Silas acutely aware of the vast gap in Mrs. Nash’s heart between himself and Jett.
The warmth faded from Silas’s gentle eyes, replaced by a subtle darkness.
Just as Jett was about to offer the flowers to Mrs. Nash, Silas strode over first.
He snatched the flowers from Jett’s hand, saying self-righteously, "Dr. Nash will be here soon—she’s allergic to pollen, so these won’t do. But thank you for the thought, President Sterling."
Jett’s veins bulged on his forehead in anger.
"I used to send Chloe flowers all the time in college, she was never allergic. Silas, what a poor excuse."
Hearing this, a strange look flashed in Silas’s eyes.
Chloe isn’t allergic to pollen...so who actually is?
