Entangled in the Night: Unable to Escape Him-Chapter 38: He Can’t Wait to Kiss Her Lips
Lucy Rhodes sighed and said, "My brother said she died, but I don’t know if that’s true. Anyway, Julian is always a mystery in our family. My brother went out on a work trip and came back holding a child, saying it was his son, that the boy’s mother had died, and he’d raise him from now on."
All of us were baffled. My brother had never even dated anyone—where’d this kid come from?
At first, we thought maybe he picked him up somewhere, but as Julian grew, he looked more and more like my brother, and that doubt faded away.
We still have no idea what happened between him and that woman, and nobody dares ask. Even my grandpa asked, but my brother wouldn’t say a word."
Hearing this, Chloe Nash couldn’t help clenching her fist.
Could it be that Silas treated Julian’s mother the same way he treated her? Eventually, the woman couldn’t take his control and killed herself.
After all, not everyone can handle the feeling of being locked in a cage.
Thinking of that possibility, Chloe’s hatred toward Silas burned a little deeper.
Because of his obsessive madness, she hadn’t dared come back pregnant, and Julian lost his mom.
Chloe gently stroked Julian Prescott’s small hand. "His longing for a mother has gotten really serious now. Hasn’t your brother considered anything to help?"
Lucy said helplessly, "My brother looks gentle and cultured, but deep down, he’s as stubborn as a mule. Once he decides not to do something, none of us can change his mind.
Just take the situation with Sienna, for example. Everyone says she’s dead, but my brother refuses to believe it, obsessively searches for her all over the world. I don’t even know how he really feels about Sienna—does he like her, or is it just sibling affection?
I actually thought about matching you two, since my brother treats you differently from everyone else, but I never expected you’d already be married and have a kid. You have no idea how disappointed I was. I think Julian feels the same way, which is why he got sick.
Dr. Nash, I know this puts you in a tough spot, but Julian is really pitiful. That’s the only reason I called you."
Chloe felt a whirlwind of emotions inside.
For a moment, she thought about staying by Julian Prescott’s side, but as soon as she remembered the pain Silas had caused her, that thought vanished instantly.
She couldn’t live like a caged songbird, locked up by Silas, no freedom, no friends, not even the right to keep a kitten.
In Silas’s eyes, she had to love him with her whole heart.
No person or animal could be allowed to take away any of her love.
Even a kitten was too much, let alone a child.
Too many people had been hurt by Silas simply for being close to her, and she didn’t want to drag anyone else into his madness.
Chloe curved her lips faintly. "It’s okay, I’m really connected with Julian. If something happens to him, I wouldn’t just ignore it. You go get some sleep. I’ll stay with him. The IV will probably take a few more hours."
Lucy Rhodes looked a little embarrassed. "You’ve already gone through a lot to come over here, and now you’re staying the night with Julian. You should sleep; I’ll watch him."
"No need. I’m worried he’ll look for me again later. If he moves around too much now, the needle might bleed, and that wouldn’t be good."
Seeing Chloe insist, Lucy didn’t argue again.
She really was exhausted, having run around all day for Julian Prescott.
Already worn out.
Once Lucy left the room, Chloe gently smoothed Julian’s brow and whispered, "Julian, you know, Auntie once had a big brother your age. He died a month after he was born, and I miss him so much."
"Every time I’m with you, I want to treat you like him. Are we chasing after each other from both directions? You see me as your mom, I see you as my son."
"If your dad wasn’t Silas, I’d really want to be your mom. But because of him, I’m too afraid to try. Will you forgive me?"
Julian Prescott seemed to hear her, or maybe he was just feverish and babbling.
He mumbled, "Mama."
Chloe kissed his hand, tears falling onto the back of his hand.
"Mama’s here."
She only dared to do this when nobody else was around.
Turning Julian Prescott into the son she lost, a way to ease her longing.
The IV dripped; she kept cooling him down physically, until Julian’s temperature finally dropped below thirty-eight.
Only then did Chloe finally breathe a sigh of relief.
Resting at Julian’s bedside, she found herself thinking back on old memories.
Back when she’d first arrived at the Prescott Family’s house, she’d faced so much gossip.
They said her mother was a shameless woman, abandoning her husband and child. They said she was a jinx, doomed to bring misfortune.
Even the kids called her a hick who’d never seen the world, an unwanted stray.
They shot her with water guns.
Her clothes got soaked, clinging to her body, exposing her just-developing figure to everyone.
But even so, she never dared fight back.
She was terrified they’d say she ate the Prescott’s food but dared to hit a member of the Prescotts.
All she could do was hold her head and shrink back.
In her most lonely, helpless moment, she stumbled into a broad, warm embrace.
She was just about to apologize when she heard a clear, low voice beside her.
"Who told you to bully her?"
The children froze in fear, stammered, "She’s a wild child nobody wanted—why should she live with us?"
Silas Prescott’s expression was cold and intimidating as he stared at those kids.
He spoke sternly, "Who said she’s a stray? Her father was a heroic martyr for the country, her grandfather killed enemies on the battlefield, she’s the orphan of a war hero. Who gave you the right to treat her like this?"
The children hung their heads, afraid to speak again.
That was the first time Sienna Paxton saw Silas Prescott. He was tall, with a sharply defined face and deep eyes.
He carried a natural elegance and aristocratic air.
To young Sienna, he was a ray of dazzling light piercing her gray, hopeless world.
Sienna looked up at Silas and softly said, "Thank you, big brother."
Silas took off his coat and draped it over her, his large hand caressing her head gently. "Don’t be scared. With me here, nobody will dare bully you again."
He made those kids apologize to her and took her to eat things she’d never had before.
From that day on, Silas Prescott’s name became a seed planted in her heart, taking root and sprouting.
But she never dared let anyone see it, could only bury those feelings deep inside.
Until one day, Silas saw right through her secret.
Their relationship soured. She went from being a simple girl silently in love with Silas to his controlled plaything.
The love she’d hidden away slowly got buried beneath fear.
If only they’d never crossed that line, maybe they’d still be ’siblings’ now. Maybe that crush would’ve stayed beautiful forever.
Thinking of all this, Chloe Nash couldn’t hold back her tears—they slipped from the corners of her eyes.
Her throat let out a strangled sob.
"Big brother, please let me go. Go back to being that gentle, unblemished brother."
The IV finished, and Chloe, exhausted, fell asleep beside Julian’s bed.
Silas Prescott opened the door and strode over to Julian’s bedside.
His cool hand pressed against Julian’s forehead. Feeling the boy’s fever gone, Silas finally relaxed for the first time.
As he looked up, he saw a small figure slumped by the bed.
Her soft hair covered her face, only her prettily shaped lips exposed.
With just the nightlight on, the room was dim; Silas couldn’t make out the girl’s face.
All he could see was her hazy shape.
But that silhouette instantly ignited all of Silas’s buried longing.
He stared at Chloe’s figure and couldn’t help but call out, "Sienna."
Chloe didn’t know if she was dreaming or if she’d really heard someone call her; half-asleep, she murmured, "Mm."
Her voice was faint, but Silas still caught it.
He was like a dying beast that’d been trapped in darkness for years, suddenly grasping a lifeline.
He rushed to Chloe’s side in a frenzy, unable to stop himself from cradling her face in his hands.
Desperately, he pressed his lips to hers.
