Chapter 183: Chapter 183: Brother-in-Law

Sienna Paxton turned around immediately, only to find that Silas Prescott and Julian Prescott had somehow already gotten out of the car.

The two of them were standing hand in hand behind Sienna, looking at her with wounded, longing eyes.

Julian tilted his head up at Silas, blinking a few times, and said, "Daddy, you’re hurting me."

Only then did Silas realize his grip on Julian was much too tight.

The pressure was almost leaving red marks.

He let go right away, and walked over to Sienna, pulling her to his side.

His pitch-black eyes were filled with nervousness: "Sienna, you promised not to leave me. You’re not allowed to go back on your word."

Seeing him get jealous like a child, for a moment Sienna wasn’t sure how old Silas actually was.

She smiled and said, "Let me introduce you—this is my neighbor, Nathaniel Thorne. He’s really impressive now, captain of the riot squad. Brother Nathaniel, this is Silas Prescott, and I grew up in the Prescott Family home."

Nathaniel Thorne looked Silas up and down, then reached out his hand and said, "Hello, Mr. Prescott, thank you for taking care of Sienna all these years. Please drink a few more glasses later, to show my gratitude."

He spoke earnestly, almost as if he were Sienna’s family.

That made Silas feel rather uncomfortable.

But he didn’t show it, instead greeting Nathaniel very amicably and shaking his hand.

"Hello, Captain Thorne, let me introduce you—this is the son I have with Sienna, his name is Julian. Julian, this is your mom’s neighbor, you should call him uncle given the family ties. Hurry up and greet him."

Julian was very well-behaved; he bowed to Nathaniel Thorne: "Hello, Uncle. I’m Julian, Miss Sienna Paxton’s son."

Both men made it clear to Nathaniel that Sienna and Silas had a son together.

Nathaniel was clearly surprised.

A complicated expression flickered in his deep-set eyes.

He stared at Julian’s handsome little face for a long while, then turned his gaze to Sienna.

"You’re not married. Where did the child come from?"

Before Sienna could answer, Silas interjected, "Even though I’ve lost my memory and I don’t know exactly what happened between Sienna and me, I know for sure—having a child out of wedlock is definitely my fault, I let Sienna down, and when I’ve recovered, I will marry her."

He sounded so humble, a complete contrast to the cold, distant Silas from before who showed little warmth to his relatives.

His attitude was so sincere that even Sienna couldn’t help but wonder if this really was the ten-year-old Silas she knew.

Nathaniel looked at Sienna with gentle eyes: "Sienna, I know you’ve grown up, and you have your own choices now. But I hope whatever you choose, it’s for your happiness. Don’t force yourself. Now that I’m back, I’ll be your support—no one can push you to do anything. You understand?"

They had grown up together, so of course Nathaniel understood what kind of person Sienna was.

She was kind-hearted and gentle by nature. He was worried Sienna would stay with Silas out of gratitude for the Prescott Family raising her.

He didn’t know exactly what had happened between them.

But to not be married, and to have a child this old already, meant either Silas had let Sienna down and didn’t want to marry her even after the child,

Or Silas wanted Sienna to be Julian’s stepmother.

Either way, neither situation meant the best outcome for Sienna.

Seeing how worried he was, Sienna gave a small smile and said, "Brother Nathaniel, it’s pretty complicated between me and him. I’ll tell you about it when we have more time."

Nathaniel nodded. "Alright. I’ll wait for you."

He looked down at Julian, who was blinking his big eyes, waiting anxiously for Nathaniel’s response.

The boy’s gaze was a little nervous.

Seeing him like that, Nathaniel gently ruffled his hair with a hint of apology.

"Sorry to have kept you waiting."

Though he couldn’t accept the idea of Sienna having a child out of wedlock, Nathaniel hadn’t figured out exactly what was going on yet, and he didn’t want to ignore the child.

He reached out and held Julian’s chubby hand, bending down and saying, "Hello, Julian. From now on, we’re going to be good friends."

Julian blinked and said, "As long as you don’t try to steal Mommy from my Daddy, then I’ll agree to be your friend. Otherwise, we’re enemies!"

The statement left Sienna both amused and exasperated.

She smiled and pinched Julian’s cheek, "Honey, what are you thinking? He’s just Mommy’s neighbor—like a big brother."

Julian’s big, bright eyes lit up with delight, "Really? That’s a relief then! Uncle is a police officer—I trust he’d never take advantage of a situation and try to steal Mommy from Daddy. Uncle, I’m right, aren’t I?"

Julian had put Nathaniel on the spot with that comment, and he couldn’t help but give a helpless smile.

He tapped Julian lightly on the head and said, "You little rascal, upstairs with you! My mom’s already set everything up, and she’s made a feast for you guys."

Silas nodded politely, "Thank you, Brother Nathaniel. Once I marry Sienna, you’ll be sitting at the main table as her family."
