Chapter 255: My sweet sweet sweet Lucy!

But the vision of an angry Marcus Norwell did not linger in her head any longer as her thoughts drifted off to a certain someone.

Set of firm jaws. Strong arms that held her tightly as he carried her out of the forest. Eyes that bore holes into her when he talked to her. Deep blue eyes.

After Esme lost her memories, the woman kept obsessing over Aleister’s eyes which she always dreamt of. She even painted it and shoved it on Luciana’s face.

She went on about how it was not an ordinary blue. It was the kind of blue that reflected on the seashore when the first rays of morning sunshine grazed across it. Pale blue.

To Luciana, blue was blue. She used to stare at Esme like she was speaking in some language she could not understand. She did not know what was the need to obsess over some man or his eyes when you do not even remember him.

But now she understood it. She understood what her friend saw after she looked into Cardan’s eyes up so closely.

Unlike his brother’s, Cardan’s eyes were not light. They were dark, just like him, like the depth of the sea on darkest nights.

If Esme heard her thoughts about a man’s eyes, the woman might have glared at her for her hypocrisy.

A nostalgic look appeared on Luciana’s face as she glanced at the moonlight sprinkling through the gaps of the tall trees.

’’I wonder what he is doing right now..." she mumbled unconsciously.

The sound of the crushing of dried leaves made her alert.

Luciana straightened up against the tree without making any movement as she summoned her powers in her palm.

’’I wonder why you abandoned me when you had to sit alone and think about me in the end,’’ a seductive whisper fell on her left ear.

As she turned her head to the side, she saw no one.

Luciana was befuddled. Was she hallucinating about Cardan now?

’’Lucy, didn’t you know I would miss you if you left me alone in that quiet kingdom of yours?" Cardan whispered near her right ear as he placed his chin on her shoulder.

This time, as she tilted her head to the side, she saw him right there, looking straight ahead without meeting his gaze.

Luciana held her breath, wondering if he was a figment of her imagination.

’’You left me alone despite knowing that...’’ Cardan dropped a gentle kiss in the crook of her neck as he said, ’’Nobody fights with me other than you.’’

’’They are intimidated by you,’’ she found herself amused.

’’Nobody presses my own knife against my neck other than you. And even if they do, I would cut off their limbs,’’ Cardan frowned, wondering why he was showing duality like his elder brother, ’’My sweet sweet Lucy, with you gone, the moon loses all its shine and the sea just looks dry. Don’t you know that?"

He sounded so aggrieved that Luciana had a strong urge to pat his head, ’’No, I do not. And they do not. All of them stay the same. Nature won’t change its course just with one person gone.’’

The man was looking ahead while she glanced at his side face but now, he turned to look at her, their faces were so close that just a tilt of his head and his lips would graze hers, ’’But my life will change its course without you, Lucy. I feel like I won’t be the same if I don’t see you. Didn’t I ever tell you that?"

’Thud thud thud’

Heart, have some dignity. Luciana’s lips thinned.

She was still leaning back on the tree while the man knelt behind it, with his chin on her shoulder.

’’You are acting like a spoiled child, Cardan,’’ she mumbled, trying to hide the growing warmth on her cheeks.

’’And yet you never spoil me,’’ Cardan took her earlobe between his teeth as he nipped at it. When she winced, he licked it to soothe the pain, ’’Say my name more often, Lucy. Stay with me more often,’’ he whispered before placing a soft kiss on her jaws.

Luciana sighed, ’’What are you doing here?" she asked him softly, instead of pushing him away ’’You should not be here,’’ the realization that he was here at this place jolted her out of the sweet moment.

She pulled away from him and pushed herself to her feet, ’’Go back.’’

No matter how much she shouted at him that he was evil, in a discreet corner of her heart, she knew that he was torn between being a son to his mother and being the person his heart asked him to be.

Saying that he was evil was her cowardice. If she did not know where Cardan was coming from then nobody in this world would know. At times like this, they were just reflections of each other.

Cardan pushed himself to his feet as he came to stand in front of her. He raised his hand.

She stepped away from his touch.

"Go back,’’ she repeated.

Cardan manipulated everything for years just to kill his half-brother for his mother’s sake but despite the easy opportunities, he never laid a finger on Aleister. He never tried and that resistance only spoke a lot about the kind of person that lay in that dark exterior of his.

No, he should not be here. This place was tied to lots of bitter memories that she did not want him to experience again.

Cardan reached out to her despite her resistance. He cupped her face, ’’Stop panicking. Tell me what is bothering you.’’

’’You should not be here,’’ Luciana whispered, ’’This place... is a nightmare to all of you. Go away.’’

Unlike what she expected, a small smile tugged at the corner of his lips, ’’My sweet sweet sweet Lucy, are you worried about me?"

’’I am being serious,’’ she narrowed her eyes but he just smiled at her.
