Ensnaring his Dark Moon-Chapter 250: Moth and flame
Luciana felt like she was in a dream. She was not used to such a gentle Cardan. She was so unfamiliar with this side of him.
The Cardan who was so forward with his thoughts and feelings towards her made her feel like she was the liar here for suppressing whatever she felt.
But what if he used her again? What if all of this was just another lie? Could she trust this man?
She opened her mouth, ’’I...’’
’’What is this?" Cardan frowned and removed her hand from his face, his gaze darkened when he saw the blood trailing down her elbow.
Luciana’s eyes widened when she followed his gaze. She snatched her hand back, ’’It’s nothing...’’
Cardan flipped her around. His jaw ticked as he ripped off her dress without another thought.
’’Cardan!" Luciana hurriedly covered her breasts as the dress fell. She had not been wearing many layers because of the wounds.
Cardan’s lips parted when he saw the low corset that clung to her body, soaked in fresh blood, ’’Stop moving unless you want me to admire your body right here,’’ he mumbled.
"_" How?
She did not ask the question out of embarrassment.
Luciana pursed her lips, ’’I am fine, Cardan,’’ her voice was almost coaxing this time.
He tugged at the strings and the corset parted, revealing her back.
’’It looks like you have done this many times before,’’ Luciana joked, hoping to lighten the atmosphere.
But he was quiet. Way too quiet.
’’Who did this?" Cardan’s eyes burned with hatred as he looked at the fresh wounds on her back which were accompanied by old scars. Blood dripped down the open flesh that the woman had forcefully wound up in a tight corset.
Luciana trembled.
Cardan turned her around such that she was facing him this time, ’’Who did this to you, Lucy?"
The only man who ever made her fear him in her life was her father. Yet for the first time, she found that feeling in someone else.
But what was more strange was that she was not scared of Cardan harming her. Even when he was so angry, she was not scared that he would do anything to her.
She did not even know where this unreasonable trust came from.
Luciana shook her head, ’’I... I am better now,’’ she cupped his face, not knowing why she wanted to coax him out of this disaster. She wanted to tell him that what happened to her had nothing to do with him but the words that slipped out of her mouth were, ’’Stop worrying about me. Nothing happened.’’
Cardan did not say anything as he approached her. With one hand around her back, he placed the other behind her knees as he carried her up in his arms.
Luciana gasped, ’’What are you doing?"
"Going back to the Castle.’’
’’Like this? You are going to taint my reputation,’’ Luciana glared at him.
’’Stop caring about saving that reputation for some other man. Because no one else is having you, Lucy,’’ Cardan’s voice was filled with certainty, ’’Today or tomorrow, you are going to be mine. And I am going to be yours with every wrecked-up piece of my heart.’’
Those were not the kind of sweet nothings a girl would want her lover to whisper.
Cardan’s words resembled his twisted ideals of love. The kind of thing a girl should be scared of.
But Luciana found herself leaning into his arms, inching closer to him like a moth crawling towards the flame, despite being aware of its ultimate doom.
"So, don’t let me hear that you are going to marry someone else again. Or else, I am going to do things to you,’’ Cardan said meaningfully.
’’What things?" Luciana looked at him.
’’Very. Very. Bad. Things. The kind of things that will make you scream and blush. You are a very bad girl though. I believe you will like them,’’ he winked, ’’All of them.’’
Luciana’s face felt warm.
Even though he said all those cruel things but she noticed how his strong arm glided across her dress. He held her in such a way that an onlooker would not know that her dress was ripped near the back portion.
Luciana’s lips tugged up in a genuine smile for the first time in the whole day.
She was broken, damaged, and way too tainted to seek an angel’s comfort. It was the devil’s warmth that was putting her aching heart at peace.
Even if it might lead to her ruination, she was going to lean towards him.
’’Lucy, stay awake...’’ she heard Cardan’s distant voice.
I am awake. For the first time in a while, I am awake.
She wanted to tell him but her throat felt heavy and her eyes were weary.
By the time Luciana stirred in the bed, it was past noon.
She opened her eyes and glanced at the familiar room. It was the room she had been assigned to inside the castle.
’’Uh..’’ she groaned, trying to lift her body up but surprisingly, the expected pain did not come.
All she felt was a numbness that she probably got from sleeping for a long time.
Everything that happened before she lost consciousness passed through her mind, clearing the haze.
"You are awake,’’ the familiar voice got her attention.
Luciana glanced at Cardan, who stood up from the window and strode towards her, ’’What are you doing here...?" her voice was low and hesitant.
Thinking back to how she had leaned onto him in a moment of weakness, and the thoughts she had for him, she felt a bit shy.
His gaze traveled down for a moment before he looked back into her eyes, his throat bobbing up and down. His eyes darkened.
Luciana tilted her head downwards and her eyes widened as she looked at the loosened corset on her body. She was barely wearing anything.
She pulled the sheets up to her neck, ’’Why am I like this?" Suddenly thinking about something, she touched her neck and shoulders but the fresh wounds were not there.
