Ensnaring his Dark Moon-Chapter 144: I overheard everything
*Flashback continues*
Aleister looked out of the window, a distant look appeared in his eyes.
Was her question that difficult to answer? Esme could not help but wonder.
But now that she thought about it, certain things have always been mysterious about him, be it his powers, his pricky personality, or his nonchalant attitude towards his father. And even Leo’s existence.
Just when she thought he won’t answer her, he turned around to look at her, ’’I was sent somewhere far away.’’
Esme wanted to ask more about it but she decided against it when she saw the expressions on his face. Something told her that she won’t like the truth and she was not ready for it.
Aleister walked towards her and tucked the loose strands of her hair behind her ear, ’’What did you have in mind?’’
"Huh?’’ Should she just go along and ask him where he was at that time? Who sent him away?
Aleister quirked a brow, ’’Didn’t you say you had plans to uncover the culprit?’’
"Ah... About that...’’ Esme looked to the left and right before standing on tiptoes. "We need Leo’s help for that...’’ she whispered in his ear.
Aleister narrowed his eyes.
"But you chased him away so you need to coax him. About whatever he is hiding, stop being angry about it. Maybe, we will get to know it from Sister Ruby herself when we meet her,’’ she pulled back from him and looked around once again. After what happened yesterday, she was growing wary of her surroundings.
"How are you certain that we will meet her?’’
Esme sighed, ’’I don’t know but I feel it. We will meet her soon.’’
Aleister glanced at her with a weird gaze, ’’You have hobbies like divination?’’
Esme rolled her eyes. She held his hand and dragged him with her, ’’Even if we don’t meet her, we need to solve the issue at hand. I don’t want to die so young. Let’s work together to find the culprit. What do you say?’’
He glanced at their intertwined fingers, ’’We can work together on many things you know?’’ he whispered.
Esme paused, ’’Hmm?’’ She quickly let go of his hand.
Aleister shrugged and grabbed her hand, intertwining their fingers again.
...
As Esme stood in front of the courtroom, she saw the reflection of Aleister in the mirrored wall. Walking beside him was none other than that clingy woman who was looking at him with hearts in her eyes during breakfast and all the time when they were inside the courtroom.
’And here I was waiting for him,’ Esme bit her bottom lips. She stomped her feet on the ground and left the place before he could notice her.
Esme did not know when she ended up in her Aunt’s room while grumbling about her grievances.
"How was it? Are the matters solved?" Marlene asked her as she offered her a seat. She was not aware of the details but she could guess it must be some urgent matter given the expressions on the King’s face back on the breakfast table.
Esme sat on the chair, "Somewhat," Thinking back to the Norwell Family’s words, they made it sound like the main culprits were Keith and Liz and there was nothing more to this matter. Even she was almost convinced by that because of how they put it.
But she refused to believe it. There have been weird incidents around her since the day she stepped inside the Castle. She refused to believe that it was her illusion. She was not losing her mind to be hallucinating things that never existed.
Liz and Keith have always been normal people. There was nothing strange with them.
The Norwell Family, The King, and the other officials won’t understand it because they have never interacted with those two people. But she knew them personally, she had worked alongside them and she could confidently claim that that they were not like this.
As wilful as Liz was and even rude at times, but she was not evil. Either they hid themselves too deep for anyone to notice anything amiss or they came in contact with the culprit recently.
Esme did not know what was the truth about Duchess Flora and she had no idea if that woman is somehow related to this matter but the more time she spent with her, the more she felt something amiss.
’Is she after Aleister?’ A small frown appeared in between her brows. ’Why am I even worrying about him? He is busy talking to other women out there. They are the ones who should worry about him, not me.’
"Look at you. You are already worried about the kingdom’s matters. That’s the trait of a real queen," Marlene smiled.
"There is nothing like that Aunt. I am not worried about..." the Kingdom’s matters. I am worried that I might murder this kingdom’s Prince, "Do you have wine?" 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖
Marlene raised an eyebrow, "You want to drink?"
Esme nodded.
Marlene waved at her maids and they quickly brought a jar of wine and a wine glass, "I can’t accompany you..."
"That’s fine. Your old injuries are just starting to heal with the help of the royal physicians. Uncle will glare at me if you drink wine," Esme picked up the glass of wine and gulped it down in one go, "Cough..."
Marlene patted her back, "What Uncle? We are not even married yet."
"I am certain he can’t wait to marry you."
Marlene slapped her back before leaning back on her chair, "Silly girl, we need to start making your marriage preparations once we go back...."
"I know everything, Aunt," Esme interrupted her as she poured the wine in her glass.
"Hmm?" Marlene was confused.
"A few days ago, Arlan was injured while training with the guards. So, I came to your room to ask you where I can find the royal physician because he was the one whom Aleister chose for your treatment. But then I overheard your conversation with King Elias. You should know well how keen my hearing is. I heard how much you loved each other since you were kids and how you both had to part because you had to take over your responsibilities. Your responsibilities were Arlan and me, an illegitimate child and...."
"Esme, stop it!" Marlene grabbed her hand to stop her from speaking further.
