But Shiqi did not stop. The white light curled around Emira’s body like chains, binding both the women together.

"I’ve bound her soul to mine," Shiqi said softly, almost lovingly. Her voice carried unnaturally, echoing across the courtyard. "Every breath she takes now passes through me first."

She tilted her head, smiling faintly as Emira gasped, trembling. "If I tear myself apart—she tears with me."

Zen completely lost control.

"LET HER GO!" His roar shook the air, his wolf slamming against his skin, eyes glowing with raw fury. "You touch her again, and I swear—"

"You will do nothing," Shiqi snapped back, her smile twisting into something cruel. "You cannot even step off that podium."

Kael’s hands shook, claws tearing through his skin as he fought to contain himself. "Shiqi," he growled, voice thick with violence, "end this. Now."

Lance stepped forward until the blue barrier burned against his chest. His voice was low. Deadly. "You are crossing a line you will not survive."

Shiqi laughed.

"Oh, I already crossed it," she said. "Long ago."

She tightened her grip, letting Emira choke.

Shiqi leaned closer to the princes, her voice dropping into something fevered. "Choose," she hissed. "Choose the woman behind you. Accept Ramona as your mate."

Her eyes burned. "If you don’t—"

Before she could finish her threat, the air shifted again and soon, the blue light that surrounded them started to recede! She turned to stare at Aron... He was withdrawing his power? Why! Why did he favour her so much that he was once again willing to give up power for her!

It made her feel even more crazy! He didn’t want he. Fine. She didn’t want him anymore either. But couldn’t he let her have power at least? Then she would throw this Mira at him. Let her accompany him damnation forever!

"No—"

Her eyes, filled with madness, locked onto Aron.

For the first time, her confidence cracked completely. "You think you can let them escape and then stop me?" she demanded, her voice sharp, almost shrill. Then she laughed, the sound brittle and unhinged. "You think I’ll allow that?"

Aron stood still, his hands slowly lowering, his expression unreadable.

Shiqi’s grip on Emira tightened instinctively.

"If they step off this place without choosing a mate," Shiqi said quickly, panic bleeding into fury, "there will be no Golden Goddess descending. No blessing. Nothing."

She turned fully toward Aron now, desperation blazing in her eyes. "Stop them, Aron. Because as long as they get together with her, the power you and I both want will never manifest."

Her voice dropped, urgent. "Come on. Stop them."

For a moment, Aron said nothing and the blue light continued to fade.

Shiqi’s breath came fast. "Do you hear me?" she snapped. "If they leave unbound, everything collapses. Your plans. Mine. Everything."

Aron’s gaze flicked briefly to Emira, and slowly, his hands lifted again, the light back in place.

Shiqi exhaled sharply, relief and madness twisting together. She turned back to the three men at once, her lips pulling into a sharp smile.

"Good," she said. "Very good."

Her fingers tightened around Emira’s throat.

"Come on," Shiqi said coldly. "Mark her as your mate. Now."

Zen took a half-step forward, then stopped.

Kael’s jaw clenched, his entire body rigid. Lance stood perfectly still, his head bowed, shadows cutting across his face. They did not move. Eve if they did not claim a mate, they were willing to accept it.

Not one of them turned toward Ramona.

Shiqi’s smile vanished.

"Don’t test me," she hissed.

When they still did not respond, her patience snapped completely. Her grip tightened. Emira choked.

A broken sound tore from her throat as her body arched helplessly, her hands clawing weakly at the white light around her neck. Her vision darkened at the edges. The world narrowed to pain and pressure and the sound of her own breath failing.

"STOP!" Zen shouted.

Kael took a sharp step forward, his claws fully out now, blood dripping onto the stone. "Let her breathe!"

Lance’s head lifted slowly. Something had changed.

The air around him felt heavier. Colder. Without a word, he turned.

Zen and Kael followed. Together, they walked toward Ramona.

Shiqi’s breathing steadied at once. A wild triumph lit her eyes.

"Yes," she murmured. "That’s right."

They stopped in front of Ramona. Then- Lance stepped forward and placed himself directly in front of Ramona. Kael moved behind her, standing close but not touching. Zen took position at her side.

"We are now mates," they said in unison, "bound together by fate.". And then calmly, as if dead inside, the three men bent their heads and bit into the woman’s flesh, making her scream....

The entire courtyard was bathed in golden light then, causing everyone to close their eyes against the blinding light...

But then, thunder struck loud and angry, as if the heavens were raging.

The ground trembled faintly beneath everyone’s feet.

Shiqi stiffened.

Her head snapped upward, though her eyes were still blinded by the light. Her lips pulled back in a wild smile. "Yes," she said hoarsely. "That’s it. You hear that, don’t you? The Goddess is watching."

She tightened her hold on Emira again, white light flaring brighter around them both. Emira cried out weakly, her body shaking, her breath coming in broken gasps.

"Finish it!" Shiqi screamed, her voice tearing through the thunder. "Complete the mating! Now!"

Another bolt of lightning struck, so close that the sound felt like it tore through flesh instead of air.

"I don’t care if you can’t see," Shiqi went on, her voice shaking with hysteria. "Do it! Or I will kill her. I swear it. I will end her right here!"

The courtyard shook again, then there seemed to be sudden silence with the thunder disappearing as quickly as it had struck.

In that sudden quiet, a voice echoed. "I accept our mating," the voice said softly. "With all my soul."

For a single heartbeat, the world held still. Shiqi froze.

Her breath caught sharply. "Yes," she whispered, almost in relief. "Yes... that’s it."

They had chosen the wrong mate. She threw Emira away and spread her arms, ready to welcome the power of the Golden Goddess into her...
