Enslaved To The Alphas-Chapter 287: Who Are You?
Walking through the tunnel felt endless. As Emira walked forward, she felt a chill all over. Just how far was this place from the main side.... Ryn had actually dug this tunnel over the last two months? Was she crazy?
Even as the uneven path beneath her feet made her wince with every step, Emira was only a bit thankful for the part of Mira’s soul that had merged with her, thus helping her master more magic in this short time...
Because if not for the soft glow of the magical butterflies drifting ahead of her, Emira might have believed she was walking in circles.
Time seemed to stretch strangely in this place. Her steps echoed, then faded. Her breathing was the only other sound. It felt as though she had been walking for far longer than she truly had. Almost an hour had passed, or so it seemed, before the tunnel finally began to widen.
When she saw the faint outline of an opening ahead, relief washed through her. She slowed instinctively, her heart pounding as she reached the end of the passage.
She clenched her hands tightly as excitement surged through her. She was going to see them. Soon. She had promised to return in time for the Golden Moon, yet she had come back earlier than they could have expected. And with answers so they could not blame her for the mistake of the past or the present.
Added to that, once they knew that Shiqi was the Grand Witch and she was the one who had caused everything, they might be able to get together and handle the real enemy.
Emira lifted her gaze toward the solid stone wall ahead. From here it really did look like a dead end... She’d never thought that Ryn might be so adept at something like this.
She raised her hand and whispered a spell under her breath. The magic unfurled gently from her fingers. Slowly, the wall turned translucent. Shapes formed on the other side, sharpened until the image became clear.
Her breath hitched.
They were there.
All three of them sat inside the study, quiet and still. Kael leaned back in his chair, one arm resting against the desk, his expression unreadable. Zen stood near the window, his gaze lowered, his posture tense. Lance sat slightly apart from them, his hands folded, his attention turned inward.
The room was silent. And heavy. Seeing them like that made her chest ache. They looked tired. Strained. As though something unseen weighed on them. Of course she knew that she was the one who was probably responsible for it. She smiled softly then. Soon, she would make it upto them.
Even though she wanted to open the wall and rush forward and hug them, she forced herself to look around the space carefully. She scanned every corner, every shadow, making sure there was no other presence in the study, no lingering trace of magic that did not belong. Only when she was certain the place was secure did she move closer to the wall.
Her fingers found the slightly uneven brick Ryn had described to her and she pressed it.
There was a low rumble as the stone shifted. The wall slid aside just enough to create an opening. Warm light spilled through, along with the familiar scents of the three men she had missed so deeply.
Without thinking, Emira stepped through as emotion took over caution. She ran straight toward Kael, her heart racing, her vision blurring slightly as she lifted her arms, intending to wrap them around him.
At the sound of movement, all three of them looked up at the same time. Their heads snapped toward her in unison. For a split second, there was shock. Pure disbelief.
Then Kael moved. 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶
Just as Emira was about to reach him, just as her fingers were inches from his sleeve, he stepped back.
The sudden distance made her stumble to a stop. Her arms fell slowly to her sides. What did he mean be stepping away. She looked at them askance.
And they... they were looking at her like they were strangers. Kael looked at her as if she were non existent, Zen seemed to be even avoiding looking her way and Lance was looking at her as if she were the dirt beneath his shoes.
Emira stood frozen where she was. Ryn’s warning echoed in her head and she frowned as her confidence faltered. What had happened in the two days she had been away? She raised a hand behind her back and clicked her fingers, looking for any traces of magic that might have been done on them. But there was nothing. No residue of any magic...
So, they were not under any influence to be looking at her like that.
"Kael?" she said quietly.
Her voice sounded small in the large room.
He did not answer right away. His gaze dropped briefly, then lifted again until he finally said, "You shouldn’t be here."
The words landed harder than she expected. Anybody could say those words but them...
"I came back. I found out who is behind everything and what is going on. You have no idea who..."
Before she could continue, Lance cut in," Emira. Leave. Now."
Emira stilled as she felt the compulsion in the order. He was not asking her to leave. He was ordering her. As her Alpha...
She fought the compulsion and tried to speak up again, but before she could, Zen spoke up,"Emira... when you left, you made your choice. Now, we do not wish to see you. Once the Golden moon ceremony is over, we will make arrangements to shift you to a different pack."
Emira felt a ringing in her ears at that moment. What was Zen saying? She shook her head. No. She understood the words of what he was saying but she didn’t understand what it meant... until she did...
"You are going to mate with Ramona?" Emira asked slowly. "On the night of the Golden Moon?"
