Enslaved To The Alphas-Chapter 275: The Ruins
Contrary to Emira’s expectations, she did not find anyone from the Moonville Pack obstructing her path or even appearing in front of her. The absence felt strange. She had fully expected them to block her way, or at the very least confront her the moment she stepped onto their land. Or rather surround her, as was ALpha Soier’s usual method.
Instead, she walked on uninterrupted. More unsettling still was the fact that she had not even encountered a single guard along the way. It was as though the pack had vanished.
If not for the still well-maintained cobbled paths beneath her feet, Emira might have believed the place had been abandoned entirely. The land itself showed no signs of neglect. Everything was intact. Orderly. And that made the silence stand out even more.
It did not feel empty. It felt intentional. Slowly, the thought settled in her mind that they were not gone at all-they were avoiding her.
She raised an eyebrow at that realization. What could possibly make a man like Alpha Soier act this way? What could make him pull back instead of trying to attack and take control?
If Kael, Lance, or Zen had been walking beside her, she would not have questioned the idea of Soier’s cowardice for even a second. But she was alone. Completely alone. And Soier had always looked down on her, and on all omegas, as weak and insignificant. That much had never been in doubt. So there had to be some other reason for avoiding her. 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂
Still, Emira shrugged the thought aside. Whatever the reason, it worked in her favour. It was good that she did not have to waste time arguing or fighting her way through pointless resistance. She could go straight to the ruins and then return to her Alphas.
She smiled at the thought. It was odd. Her own feelings. She had been sure of them last morning and then thrown into doubt after the revelations from the dark master. But a little time away from them had helped clear her mind and assimilate herself to the situation, while also clearly giving her a clarity that she had earlier been lacking.
It was why, even as every step she took seemed to take her further from them, in her heart she knew that they would be together in the end. It was this realisation that gave her the courage to go closer and closer to the ruins, the place that she had avoided all her life.
Soon, she arrived at the broken place and it felt as if she were seeing it for the first time. And maybe she was. In the past, she had thought that this place might end up being the place where she gave up her life. Who would have thought that this would have been a truth of her previous life.
Gone were the feelings of aversion toward this large building that had already come apart. Instead, it felt a kind of homecoming. As if something had been waiting here return here.
Thus, the subsequent steps seemed to become easier. She looked around in wonder. Kael had told her that this place was so full of pain and malevolence that they had barely been able to breath here. It had been because of the numerous sacrifices that had been made for the sake of practicing the forbidden dark arts. They had barely escaped. It was also this place that had made Alec lose his sanity.
Why did she not feel all that? To her, this place felt as if a part of her had always been here. As if she was a part of the souls that lingered here. Lost in her thought, Emira stumbled over a rock.
She gasped softly and her hands reached out on instinct. Her palms pressed against the cold stone wall beside her as she braced herself to keep from falling.
The moment her skin made contact with the stone though, something changed.
Warmth surged through her hand, as though the stone recognized her.
Her breath caught and in the next moment, the air around her seemed to change. The sharp scent of despair and decay seemed to fade and the world shifted.
The broken stone wall beneath her touch smoothed out, the cracks sealing themselves as if they had never existed. The abandoned courtyard blurred, its rubble dissolving into light and color. The grey sky above brightened, turning a soft blue, and sunlight spilled down like a blessing long withheld.
Emira froze. Gone was the ruined place she had known all her life.
In its place stood a grand courtyard, wide and open, paved with polished stone that gleamed under the sun. Tall pillars lined the edges, wrapped in red silks and ribbons letting everyone know that there was soon going to be a wedding in this place. Flowers bloomed everywhere filling the air with a sweet scent that made her chest ache.
And then she heard it. Laughter. Her laughter. Or rather Mira’s laughter.
It rang out clear and bright, echoing across the courtyard as she ran forward, skirts gathered in her hands. Her feet barely seemed to touch the ground as she chased a butterfly that fluttered just out of reach, its wings glowing softly as it danced away from her.
"Wait-come back!" she called, laughing harder as the butterfly teased her, circling just beyond her grasp.
She spun around, breathless and smiling, her heart full in a way she had never known in her present life. Joy came easily here. It wrapped around her like a second skin. "Mira."
The sound of her name stopped her and she stopped chasing the butterfly and looked at the man standing there, dressed in wedding finery.
She ran back toward him, her steps slowing only when she reached him, her smile warm and unguarded as she said," Wow! You make such a handsome groom!"
He watched her closely, something unreadable flickering in his eyes. Then he took a step forward, his hands curling slightly at his sides, as if he were bracing himself. "Mira," he said again, his voice quieter now. "Are you sure you are willing to marry me?"
She blinked, surprised only for a heartbeat. Then she smiled even wider, as if the answer had never been in doubt. "Of course, Aron," she said, nodding as she spoke. Her voice was light and certain. "Why would you even ask?"
His brows drew together. The ease in her answer seemed to trouble him more, rather than reassure him. He looked away for a moment, jaw tightening, before his gaze returned to her face.
"Even though," he said slowly, carefully, "you only see me as a brother and a mentor?"
Her smile softened, but it did not fade, even as she nodded.
"And even though," he continued, his voice lowering, further ", you might never get the chance to be a proper wife?"
In that moment, her smile disappeared. "Marriage is just a name, Aron. You are my lord and master. And if you need me to marry you, then not just in this life but in every life, I will be willing. That is my promise to you."
