Enslaved To The Alphas-Chapter 270: Okay
Emira did not think about going back to see Zen or the others. As much as he had been the only one on her mind, after finding out the truth of the past, she could not go to him now. If she went to him and then...
Emira wiped her tears as she returned to the only place that felt like home. The small hidden cabin that felt like home. As she did, she reminded herself that the breaking of the bond meant that he had been saved. That alone was enough for now. She would not allow herself to think beyond that, or to question what came next.
Once inside the cabin, she let go of the stiffness within her and took a deep calming breath. This was the only place where she felt truly safe. The infirmary, where she had been sent earlier, should have been safe too. It had been meant for healing. And yet, she had been hypnotized there. The fact that she had been able to walk out without anyone fully realizing it still made her uneasy and sent a faint chill through her.
So, as far as Emira was concerned, the small cabin was her only safe haven now.
Once in her room, she sank onto the floor, her back pressing against the bed as she took a few deep breaths, trying to steady herself. Her heart was still racing, her thoughts tangled and heavy. As her breathing evened out, her gaze dropped to her hand.
She frowned.
What was this thing doing here on her...
Before she could react further, however, she heard footsteps approaching outside. 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖
Her body stiffened at once. Her breath caught, and every muscle in her tensed as she listened. In the next minute, she let out a breath of relief.
Then she recognized the presence and let out a slow breath. Thankfully, it was them. If it had been Councilman Aldren or someone like that, she didn’t think she had the patience tonight to deal with them...
She looked up just as the door opened, and the first person to step inside was Zen.
Even though she had known he was all right, seeing him standing there made something twist painfully in her chest. Only now did she realize just how worried she had been. How tightly she had been holding that fear down.
Without a second thought, she pushed herself to her feet and ran toward him.
"Zen!"
Emira did not slow down as she reached him. She barely stopped long enough to make sure he was okay from the after effects of the poison before she lifted her hands, rose on her toes and pressed her lips to his in a hard fierce kiss. He reacted as expected, his hands going around her waist as he steadied his hold on her while his mouth moved over hers, kissing her back....
She pulled back only to cup his face and stare at him clearly. He was still a bit pale, which just went to show how potent the posion had been that despite his heightened healing, he was till pale.
"Thankfully you are okay," she said, her voice shaking despite herself. Then the relief turned sharp, and her brows drew together. "Do you have any idea how careless you were? Stabbed with a cursed object! Do you think your life is something you can just throw away like that? Who would call you the hunter of the Stormhold Pack if word got out about how you almost died?
Zen blinked at her, clearly caught off guard, before a faint, dry smile tugged at his lips. "I see I survived only to be scolded," he said lightly. "Next time, perhaps you can punish me properly if I end up cursed again." Of course he did not tell her that he had done this because of her. All three of them had thought that she wanted to break the bond to bring back the dark master.
As he thought of this, he hurriedly informed Kael that she was here in the cabin and then looked at her intently. The past that he had just seen made him worried. If the past was true, then that meant... Emira had loved the dark master in the past life. It was their unfinished fate that she had been born as his fated bride.
He could not help but worry. If she chose him in this life as well... As she huffed and hugged him, he carefully hugged her back and asked, "And you?" he asked quietly. "How are you doing, my little fire."
The question seemed to catch her off guard. For a second, she did not answer and stepped away from him. He felt his heart fall.
And then, his gaze dropped, just briefly, to her neck. The place where the marks had once been was now clear. His jaw tightened. His hands curled into fists at his sides, as if he was holding something back. Dam* it! As much as he wanted to break the bond to form the mating bond, right now, he hated seeing that she was not carrying their mark! Especially after witnessing the scene where she had forcefully shown him that man’s ring on her finger..
Before either of them could speak again, the door opened again and both Kael and Lance stepped in. He saw the same relief in their brother’s eyes that had probably bene in his. That she was safe and that she was still here and not with the dark master as the Grand Witch had predicted.
Emira barely had time to react before Kael kissed her, fierce and possessive, as if grounding himself through her. When he pulled back, his forehead rested against hers.
"Don’t ever do that again. Don’t try to save us if it means putting yourself in danger. We are not worth losing you Emira. Do you understand?"
Her breath caught at his words. She lifted her hands slowly, gripping the front of his clothes as if she needed the support. "I didn’t think," she admitted softly. "I just... couldn’t let anything happen to you. Any of you."
Lance cleared his throat gently, and slowly came around to hug her as he sighed and said, "You scared us, today Emira. We...I know we have promised you to not step in the way of your revenge, but you have to promise us not to put yourself in harm’s way for any reason. Even if it means saving us..."
Emira looked into his dark eyes and gulped... She could not make that promise. But as she looked at his extended hand, she took a deep breath and placed her hand in his, "I can promise to not put myself in unnecessary danger..."
All three breathed a sigh of relief only to stop short when Emira continued," But I cannot promise you to not put myself in danger if it comes to saving someone I care for..."
The three brothers wanted to argue that but knowing Emira, they knew that this was the only thing she could promise them. And so the three silently promised himself that they would not let her endanger herself...
However, they could not have imagined that in the next moment, their resolve would be tested.
