Chapter 184: Kill

"Master. The remedy seems to have worked. All three princes have distance themselves from that Omega. I thank master for your grace."

Raymon Vye kneeled with his forehead almost touching the floor as the large mass of black smoke shifted and pulsed in front of him. The air felt heavy. Every breath carried the faint scent of something burning.

"Ramona has also come to understand the truth, master, which has made it easier for her to accept Prince Kael. She now knows now that the princes are not her true mates. Yet she is willing to serve master and carry out your will. She hopes the master will consider her devotion and bless her with the one she likes after the Princes have been taken care of."

The smoke swayed, as if studying him.

"I am pleased with the Vye family’s loyalty," the voice murmured. "Your devotion will not be forgotten. Continue. Are you certain that it has really worked and the three triplets are not suspicious?"

"Yes, master. Every free moment, all three of them are hovering near my Ramona. Since the day for the mating ceremony was decided and I administered the potion to the three princes, they now barely leave her side. Even now, Prince Zen is here, inside this house."

"Prince Zen. The youngest of the triplets?"

"Yes, master. He is the one who loves Ramona the most. He has been spending the last few nights here to care for her and keep watch."

"I see. And what of their time with that Omega girl?"

"Master, I already advised Prince Zen to move her away from Prince Kael’s cabin. Once I confirm her new location, I will report it to you."

"No. Confirm her locatuon and share it with Cassian. That is your priority. I want the Council to pressure Lance Stormhold to approve the mating trial between Cassian and the Omega. Next week is going to be her heat. That would be the best time so that she can be sent to the Redwood Pack before the Golden Moon rises. "

"Before the Golden Moon? Master, this would be—" Raymon Vye frowned at the thought. The pack was going to be full of guests from all around the world. At a time like this, causing one person to go missing...

The smoke rolled forward and the presence inside it pressed down on him like a dead weight.

"Are you going to argue with me?"

Raymon’s voice shook as he bowed lower. "I dare not, master. It will be done. I will make the Council agree to it. And get her to go to the Redwood Pack."

"Good. Then focus only on that."

Raymon hesitated before speaking again. "Master... what about the Grand Witch and the Great Witch? They are returning soon. If they step into the pack and sense your power..."

"The Great Witch is still not strong enough. She will not sense anything unless I allow it. As for the Grand Witch... you need not fear her. I will deal with her myself."

The smoke stretched and curled upward like a living shadow.

"Your only task is to send the Omega to Redwood. Do not fail me."

The floor beneath Raymon felt cold. He pressed his palms down and bowed even lower.

"It will be done, master."

Raymon stayed bowed until the smoke slowly drew back into stillness. The room felt lighter, though the air remained thick with its scent.

Then the voice spoke again, lower than before.

"Someone is listening."

Raymon’s heart tightened. He looked up quickly. Someone was listening? There were only Ramona and Zen in the house. And Ramona would never dare to come to his study. 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢

Before he could ask the master, the smoke disappeared as if it had never been there.

Raymon clenched his hands. What if it was Zen who had been listening in?

Hurriedly, he stood up and walked out of the study with slow steps down the hallway. The light from the lanterns flickered softly along the walls and Raymon could hear his own pulse as he moved. How could Prince Zen move in such silence without him realising? Maybe the master was being overly cautious.

But he still did not risk it, instead he lightly pushed the door of Ramona’s room open and peered inside. And frowned.

Prince Zen seemed fast asleep with his daughter draped around him, fast asleep. It looked impossible for the man to move without causing some fuss because half his body was trapped beneath Ramona’s arms and leg as she hugged him like her life depended on it.

Either way, his eyes were closed and he looked like he had been asleep for a long time.

Raymon watched him for a while.

Zen did not move. His breathing did not change. There was no sign of tension in his face. He seemed deeply asleep.

Raymon let out a soft breath. The weight in his chest eased. Nothing seemed out of place.

He closed the door quietly and then stepped away, making noise as if leaving. Then, hurriedly, he stepped forward and pushed forward the door again, peeking inside. It was the same...

Raymon’s shoulders eased. He exhaled slowly and shut the door again.

***

Inside the room, Zen’s eyes opened. They glittered coldly in the dim light. He pushed the woman’s limbs out of the way and stood up as he stared down at her, his hands clenched at his sides.

He’d doted on Ramona long before they’d discovered that they were mates. Even when he’d seen the visions of her betrayal time and again, his heart had given her a chance. And when he had returned from the magical forest and seen that final vision, he’d felt guilt.

Guilt that she was not their mate and that he would have to use her to get to the culprits. He’d thought of her as a victim. Like Emira... But she...

His hands moved without his permission. He reached for Ramona and gripped her throat, his fingers pressing lightly. Her face started to turn blue and she struggled for breath and for a moment, he wanted to see the life fade out of her. But then, he stopped and stepped back...

Not now. This was not the time. He let go.
