Chapter 888: Chapter 31: Unconsciously (Part 2)

Bologue suddenly stopped. At that moment, he realized the close connection between himself and Aimou. The Deceitful Snake Scale Liquid was crafted by her, the lost Sword Scabbard was also her creation. Not to mention, her Secret Energy had been augmenting Bologue, handling battles of all sizes.

This reminded Bologue of his home’s living room. When he first moved in, the living room was tidy, with some films Palmer liked placed around. But when Bologue came to his senses, he had completely occupied the living room, covered with posters, filled with youthful vigor and the unique foolishness of young people.

Changes in many things occur silently. When you notice it, the raging fire has already burned your house down to just a framework.

Then... then?

Then, what should be done?

Bologue’s steps forward halted again, and at that moment he truly felt his own confusion.

As an Undead approaching a century old, Bologue’s knowledge in this aspect was practically zero.

What followed was anxiety and stress.

Bologue is someone who tends to overthink, trying to hold everything within his control, much like his Secret Energy. Bologue harbors an almost twisted desire for control over his future.

He often planned out his life for the upcoming week, and even the entire month, with each event meticulously arranged. Though many times, Bologue’s plans were constantly interrupted by others.

The stress tormenting Bologue now stems from the uncertain future. He does not know what the world will turn into, yet Bologue tries to grasp everything, only to ultimately hold on to nothing.

Bologue was at a loss on how to handle his thoughts, stayed frozen in place for a long time. When a staff member passed by, accidentally bumped into Bologue, this brought him back to clarity — he had reached a crossroad.

Heading in this direction would take him to the Field Operations Department, while going the other way would lead to the Pillar Courtyard, and from there, he could reach the Sublimation Furnace Core.

The moment of decision had come.

Bologue had made many choices, but none left him as confused as this one. Reflecting on the contents of his decision, he felt the world grew somewhat absurd.

As he was hesitating, a voice sounded.

"Bologue?"

Bologue turned towards the direction of the voice, seeing Kemp standing amidst the hurried crowd, looking at Bologue with surprise.

"Kemp!"

Bologue’s voice was filled with eager joy, momentarily making Kemp feel a bit uncomfortable. It was the first time he’d seen Bologue so enthusiastic.

Bologue pursued, "Where are you headed?"

"Field Operations Department, there’s a meeting regarding yesterday’s negotiations."

Kemp heard them say Bologue should be in the Border Sanatorium, yet there he was, and acting unusually.

"Take me with you, I have many things I need to understand clearly."

Bologue was extremely grateful for Kemp’s sudden appearance; it gave him a target, sparing him from pondering those things he couldn’t understand at all.

Work.

Busy work could erase the vast majority of worries.

In the first year, Bologue had to indulge in such busyness to escape the sorrow in his heart.

In the third year of work, Bologue was evading the complex, confused thoughts he couldn’t resolve, choosing to throw himself into the torrent.

Following behind Kemp, under the strong contrast, Bologue realized he’d truly walked out from that sorrow, he also profoundly realized the changes in his life.

Unknowingly, Bologue had already stepped into a new life he had never imagined.

...

The tiered meeting room was gathering a number of members from various action groups. The numbers weren’t large, the members hadn’t all arrived, but the team leaders were all present. Bologue could recognize a few familiar faces, including the Sixth Group, Tenth Group, and others — all those involved in the first round of negotiations.

In the vicinity, Bologue saw Geoffrey and Palmer. The Special Operations Group was sparse in numbers, directly diluted within the seating of such a large tiered meeting room.

Kemp and Bologue waved hands, sitting in the row behind Yas. Shelley was already waiting there, Bologue remembered the girl, with bandages wrapped around her hands — she was injured in the battle with the Silent Ones.

Bologue silently moved forward, plopping down beside Palmer. Palmer, curious who was so at ease to sit next to him, quickly realized it was Bologue.

"Bologue!"

The partner’s sudden appearance raised Palmer’s voice. In the silent tiered meeting room, his voice drew everyone’s attention.

Gazes from all directions enveloped Bologue.

Bologue lowered his voice, "Quiet down."

"Why are you here?"

Palmer heard from the doctor that Bologue was experiencing severe Ether exhaustion; he should be sleeping for quite a while.

Bologue said, "Woke up and came, is there a problem?"

"Is this resistance to death?"

Palmer always had unpredictable comments, "Alright, you’re here just in time, the meeting is about to begin."

"Quiet."

Another voice emerged, it was Geoffrey. In Lebius’s absence, he took on all the responsibilities of the action group. Thankfully, there weren’t many members in his group, otherwise, Geoffrey couldn’t imagine how busy it would be.

Thinking of this, Geoffrey looked with some sympathy at Yas, whose Sixth Group had quite a few people, and then at the person who had just entered through the door, standing behind the podium.
