Endless Debt-Chapter 807 - 264: Intertwining Reality and Illusion
The power of the Devil can draw out all the negative emotions within humans, leading a beautiful fate toward a dark path, manipulating all hearts wantonly. They always do so, like the sum of all evil in the world, the ultimate embodiment of all malice, the antithesis of all goodwill and beauty.
Even though it was noon, the scorching sunlight failed to penetrate the darkness in the slightest. In the realm of shattered reality, everything was shrouded in a gray filter, shadows gradually stretching like twisted trees with claws.
Bologue could feel the ether saturated around him, the concentration so high that even without activating the Alchemy Matrix, the patterns on his arms still glowed faintly.
Black particles drifted in the air, converging to form a cloud that obscured vision. Looking further ahead, complete darkness blocked all light, resembling a pitch-black cave.
In the distance, the roars of monsters were heard, a sound too familiar to Bologue. One hideous figure after another flashed in the darkness, attempting to approach the group. Suddenly, the sharp sound of wind arose, and invisible Wind Blades effortlessly sliced them into pieces.
A glimmer appeared in Palmer’s eyes as he rarely became serious and said to the others, "There are a lot of demons nearby, at least a hundred."
Secret Energy·Furious Wind Pardon.
Under the blessing of the Secret Energy, Palmer infinitely expanded his sphere of influence, perceiving every movement of grass and trees through the surging airflow. This was a significant drain on Palmer, but it wasn’t ether being consumed; it was the intense concentration he needed to maintain. Clearly, getting Palmer to concentrate was a challenge.
Palmer muttered to himself, "According to what you said, this Secret Energy can only be used on the periphery."
After a brief discussion, Lynch decided to let the Special Operations Group give it a try. At the moment, the third group was escorting Bologue and the others to the depths of the shattered reality to see if they could resolve this crisis.
This decision made Lynch feel a bit ashamed. This problem was caused by the Joyful Garden, and Joyful Garden had always been the top priority for the third group. After all they had done, they had achieved less than these people who had stumbled upon a solution.
"We got as far as there," Lynch said, reaching out his hand and pointing to a spot of red in the darkness, which was a flag planted in the ground. "If we go further, we will clearly feel the suppression of ether, and the number and strength of the monsters will increase significantly... they seem to be protecting something."
Bologue said, "Protect the ’narrator’ of this ’reality.’"
He imagined Ewen was at the end of that darkness, pitifully pressing on a typewriter, writing despair.
"We can’t escort you much further."
Lynch’s voice grew somber as he looked toward this third group leader, who was dressed in heavy protective clothing, as were the others.
The deeper they went, the more the Extraordinary Power was suppressed. Yet, the protective clothing became excellent protection. Even Lynch marveled at the peculiarity of this situation.
Bologue refused the protective clothing, as did Aimou and Palmer. Unlike the third group, when they stepped into the realm of shattered reality, they felt a strange sense of familiarity.
Besides their own Extraordinary Power, there was something else being bestowed upon them. It wasn’t strength, but something far more mysterious.
Bologue said, "You guys feel it too, right?"
"Feels like returning to a story," Palmer nodded and continued, "If this is the sequel to the Joyful Garden game, then we should have a place here."
In this urgent action, Bologue, Palmer, and Aimou decided to delve deeper. After the previous events, all of this might be closely tied to them.
Bologue began to suspect that when they reached a certain depth, they might directly switch to their roles from the previous ’Journey in the Absolute Night’. This made Bologue somewhat apprehensive, as losing the feeling of Extraordinary Power wasn’t pleasant. Yet, he was also somewhat eager since the weapon named ’怨咬’ (Grudge Bite) was extremely lethal. If it could be brought out from the story, it would make up for Bologue’s lack of deadly means in future battles.
Noises came from ahead, and the spotlight overhead barely illuminated those hideous figures. Ether surged, and the sound of gunfire erupted.
Without any warning, a wave of demons crashed directly into the group. Palmer decisively threw the Storm Feather, and the Flying Knife rapidly split and spread out. Upon contact, it whipped up a bloody gale, countless severed limbs and organs shattered and fell to the ground with a crash.
The others, while the Secret Energy still had effect, coordinated with the firepower to carve out a blank area amidst the tidal wave of demons, like a reef splitting the angry waves.
Most of the demons charged toward the outside; Lynch believed others could stop these creatures. Shortly after, another group of demons fixed their gaze on them, roaring and charging forward.
Bologue thought, fortunately, the world’s setting written by Ewen didn’t have demons with too high intensity. Condensers could easily tear these creatures apart. If he had written it scarier, it would have been a complete disaster.
"What’s happening to you guys?"
Amidst the intense crossfire, Lynch noticed the changes on Bologue. His clothing had unexpectedly gained a piece of black fabric, and somehow a strap was now draped across him, as was the case with Palmer and Aimou. As the team advanced, this transformation became more pronounced, as if they were changing costumes.
