Endless Debt-Chapter 805 - 263: Sense of Justice
Extraordinary Disaster: Reality Break.
Among the numerous extraordinary disasters, reality break is one of the most tricky. The ways this disaster is triggered vary, but they all share a common trait: rapidly increasing ether concentration within the real world, potentially creating an Ethereal Vortex Point, and ultimately crushing the real world.
Within the scope of a reality break, the high concentration of ether will cause various anomalous phenomena, seemingly without pattern. These phenomena may resemble an Angry Sea, with mere thunder and storm, or could lead to pure annihilation, wiping out all life within the range.
"To stabilize the real world and human order, Group Eight, the disaster prevention team, has been handling this kind of trouble."
Lebius narrates that Group Eight is a perennial field team, distinct from other teams since their adversary is not a hostile organization but potential Ethereal Vortex Points.
Whenever the ether concentration in a region approaches the threshold, possibly evolving into Ethereal Vortex Points, Group Eight will arrive in that area to channel and suppress the ether, preventing the birth of Ethereal Vortex Points.
Geoffrey says, "But Group Eight can only manage situations before a disaster erupts. Now that a reality break has formed, they’re helpless. Do we even know precisely where they are?"
The world is vast. Although humans have nearly mapped every corner, most regions remain uninhabited zones. Humans cannot reach those lands, but the omnipresent ether can. Who knows how many potential Ethereal Vortex Points exist beyond the human gaze?
Thus, Group Eight is akin to explorers, continually active in these uncharted territories, resurfacing in the Order Bureau’s view only when their supplies dwindle, to report on tasks or occasionally bring back ancient relics found deep within vine-covered jungles.
Lebius rises. "According to current intelligence, that damned place suppresses everyone’s Alchemy Matrix, sending more personnel there merely magnifies unnecessary risks."
Lebius suddenly suggests to Bologue, "Give me some advice, Bologue, what should we do?"
Palmer and Aimou are surprised, never expecting Lebius to seek advice from Bologue, quite unlike the leader they know.
Bologue speaks, "Asmodeus is by Ewen’s side. I don’t know what she’s up to, but I’ve fought her before. I have more experience than Group Three."
What Ewen wrote turned into reality, Devils pierced through the pages, and the story of the Night Hunter was infiltrating reality.
"I’ve read his story and killed plenty of similar monsters in Joyful Garden."
Saying this, Bologue glances back at Aimou and Palmer. As a slaughter squad that survived against odds, this work suits them perfectly.
Aimou offers a nod of approval, while Palmer hesitates for a moment but eventually nods resolutely. 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦
"I’m the Undead. Even if I die inside, once the reality break ends, I’ll still come back, and I’m most informed about their wager..."
Bologue provides ample reasons; Lebius finds it hard to refuse, and he doesn’t intend to refuse.
"Let’s go."
Lebius leads the group away, and while walking alongside Bologue, he says softly to him, "Bologue, you need to become a hero."
"Hero?"
Bologue is startled, puzzled by why Lebius would say such things at this moment.
Hero, a word so mismatched with Bologue, too distant, dazzling to the point it blinds him.
Bologue has envisioned what he might become, a killer, butcher, Evil Spirit, Punisher... He contemplated many, all negative, dark.
"Are you kidding?" Bologue asks, "Do you think I’m such a person?"
"Hmm... Dark hero?" Lebius muses the term, "Forget it. In short, you need to become a leading figure."
"You need ample resources, more authorization, and more power, but all this needs a sufficient reason. You need to make everyone in the Order Bureau endorse you; you need to acquire all the authority... Perhaps this is a decent beginning."
Lebius says with a laugh, which he rarely does.
"You wouldn’t think we’re investing so much just to make you a mere field staff, would you?"
Bologue remains silent, having been told similar things by many people recently, the invisible responsibility cloaking him like chains, layer by layer.
"You inherently have a sense of justice, albeit slightly twisted compared to the worldly value of justice."
Lebius continues with his jest, his humor isn’t as tedious as before, "At least in normal movies, heroes don’t mete out private punishment, severely beating offenders."
Bologue chuckles twice, and Lebius turns earnest, continuing his words to Bologue.
"Do you know the true terror of the Seeker of Glory?"
"Not sure," Bologue replies, "I haven’t battled with a Seeker of Glory yet."
