Endless Debt-Chapter 797 - 258 Exploration Plan
Ether does not belong to this world. It is an extraordinary power that suddenly appeared during a certain moment and was gifted to this world by the Secret Source. But is it a blessing or a curse?
It felt like a storm was violently tearing through Bologue’s mind, his thoughts roiled into a chaotic mess, and the slender, disordered nerves were severed into countless fragments.
Bologue suddenly realized something else. If the so-called souls are likely created under the interference of Ether, then what about the Devils targeting these souls?
Are the so-called Devils, like the Secret Source, also arriving in this world together at a certain moment in the past...?
Bologue suddenly felt a sense of powerlessness as the familiar world crumbled into an entirely unfamiliar visage, making him no longer recognize it nor fit in.
Mamo spoke, "We are preparing to continue King Solomon’s and Teda’s research."
Bologue asked, "How will you do it?"
"It’s simple, split the primordial entity, keeping a part in the vacuum of Ether and immersing another part within Ether," Duwa said excitedly, "We may witness the process of Ether interacting with matter, or even the birth of a soul."
Bologue took a deep breath, staggered back, and sat on the steps, lowering his head.
He needed time to absorb such an immense amount of information and this completely refreshed worldview.
He chuckled to himself, the impact was far greater than when he became a Debtor.
"Are you planning to publish this research?"
Mamo shook his head, "No, this research will only be conducted secretly within the Scholars’ Hall."
"The Order of Truth will also join this time," Duwa chuckled, "We’ll delve deeper with Scholars’ Hall and the Order Bureau."
"This discovery could stir up a storm, possibly causing many zealots to collapse as a result."
Mamo shook his head, "The world is chaotic enough now, if we can stabilize it, we should try to keep it stable."
Bologue agreed with Mamo but also believed Mamo’s refusal to publicize was not solely for that reason; if explored further, the Order Bureau might lead everyone in the exploration of the Secret Source.
This would lay the foundation for victory in the impending Devil conflicts; war is imminent, and everyone is preparing for it.
"After witnessing the value of the primordial entity, the Order Bureau has developed a great interest in King Solomon’s legacy," Nesanel said, "After a brief discussion, we’re ready to investigate the Abandoned Place."
Bologue understood that Nesanel was referring not only to the Abandoned Place but also to the ruins of the Holy City buried within it. He then asked, "Haven’t you investigated the Abandoned Place before?"
"We have, but that was in the early days of the Order Bureau, not to mention, the place has become increasingly dangerous."
Nesanel added, "In such a desperate situation, even Defenders might perish if they’re not careful."
The Abandoned Place, covered by the Serenity Defense Line, lies in absolute Ether vacuum, where this world’s Calamity and Burning Light erode each other. Bologue has been there himself; even the Undead hold no advantage. Ash and death make the Abandoned Place a dreadful destination.
"Although King Solomon is dead, the Abandoned Place is covered with various disasters, some of the miracles from the Void Realm still operate there, hindering our exploration. Due to these complexities, we’ve not prioritized investigating the place."
In Nesanel’s view, sealing this world’s Calamity and Burning Light together is already challenging, exploring the Holy City is beyond consideration.
"Should any error occur, releasing anything, Oubos would face nothing but scorched earth post-destruction."
Imagining the scenario of Calamity and Burning Light breaking free, Bologue envisioned the grotesque crimson flesh creations filling the Great Rift, overflowing like liquid, pouring out, extending countless limbs, ravaging everything consumable.
Ether, flesh, metal, rock...
Bologue witnessed firsthand the hunger of that creature. It consumed everything, sparing none.
Similarly, Bologue could see the flames once again descending upon the world; sixty years ago, King Solomon used the Power of Light Burning to annihilate all enemies daring to invade the Holy City, sacrificing them and himself to the fierce sun, turning the place into a desolate expanse exuding a sulfurous scent.
Bologue forcefully slapped his cheeks, attempting to regain his composure, feeling an unnamed restlessness coursing through, accelerating his heartbeat.
"Why?"
Bologue murmured to himself, "Why show me this?"
A new question emerged from Bologue’s mind, considering his position’s authority, he wasn’t supposed to access such core knowledge, yet the Seekers of Glory casually revealed everything.
"The reason, something I mentioned on the road,"
Nesanel gave Bologue a meaningful smile, sending shivers down Bologue’s spine.
He understood why Nesanel was so forthcoming; knowing all this, he would likely be listed on some roster, inevitably chosen first for related events.
Bologue seemed destined for all this, Overlord Xilin’s Alchemy Matrix, undying debt, Astronaut Chosen One...
Nesanel said, "You look like you need to rest for a while, Bologue."
"I do need to rest."
Bologue nodded, theoretically, a few hours ago he had just escaped from the Joyful Garden, crawled out of his warm bed, reported everything to the Order Bureau, then faced event after event.
"Anything else?"
Bologue stood up from the steps, if possible, he just wanted to go home and lay flat on his bed for a while.
Nesanel said, "There isn’t, for now."
"Then I’ll be leaving."
Bologue turned and left decisively, no nostalgia for this place, though outwardly calm, his mind still stormed within.
Devil, Secret Source, Ether tides...
Suddenly, a surge of impulse arose within Bologue; if Devils and the Secret Source arrived together, then Devils should know the world’s truth, intense curiosity clawing at his heart like a cat’s claws, even inciting him to trade with Devils for the truth.
Thankfully, Bologue quickly calmed down, leaving the Scholars’ Hall, wandered within the Sublimation Furnace Core, randomly picked a door, inserted the Key of the Crooked Path into the lock core, opening a path into darkness.
The air was thick with the scent of alcohol, the room was exceptionally quiet, none of the familiar figures present. Since Serey left, the Undying Club grew noticeably desolate, unsettling Bologue.
Behind the bar, Bologue rarely poured himself a drink, then drank alone.
Bologue pondered, wondering if Serey was avoiding him; having known Serey’s glorious past at the Wind Source Highlands, he had intended to question him thoroughly, but upon returning, Serey was absent, leaving Bologue unaware of his current activities.
Serey might be in some woman’s bed, possibly sleeping off somewhere, reeking of alcohol, as for other possibilities... knowing Serey, Bologue couldn’t think of many.
"Eternal Night Empire, Devil’s dispute, Serey’s betrayal... you must know quite a few secrets too, Serey."
Bologue reflected while leaning against the bar, succumbing to fatigue, drifting into sleep.
A few minutes later, a faint glow appeared on the Undying Club’s door, and a sneaky figure pushed open the door, cautiously peering inside the bar.
He looked like he had just returned from vacationing on a tropical island, dressed in a floral shirt and shorts, wearing sunglasses, with a string of fresh flowers around his neck.
Who knew how he managed, his once pale skin now bronzed, with a heavy sunshade on his shoulder.
Just as Serey prepared to cheer his return, he noticed Bologue asleep on the bar, holding back his voice to avoid waking him.
Currently, Serey wasn’t ready to face Bologue, fearing a barrage of questions. Not that he didn’t want to explain, but recalling his dark past was embarrassing.
Serey cautiously maneuvered past Bologue, like a thief, ascended the stairs, silently returning to his room.
Just when Serey breathed a sigh of relief, praising his delicate movements, a pair of feline eyes met his gaze in the darkness.
A black cat gracefully emerged from the shadows.
