Endless Debt-Chapter 780 - 246 Sacrificial Test_2
No one told Ewen what to do, but as if some force was guiding him in the shadows, he needed to make a choice between the two, a choice that would trigger unexpected events for himself.
"Ewen, I’m right here."
Asmodeus stood up, opening her arms to Ewen, "Haven’t you been missing me all along?"
Asmodeus knew what Ewen wanted; she knew from the start. That’s why she always had that confident look, knowing it would be easy to capture Ewen’s heart if she simply walked toward him.
Provokingly eyeing Belphegor in the distance, Asmodeus had taken the advantage early on, so she dared to bet with Belphegor. Belphegor ignored Asmodeus, instead gazing at Ewen’s back, waiting for what Ewen would do.
Ewen questioned in confusion, "What exactly do you two want from me?"
"Your soul."
The answer came from Belphegor, the observer hidden in the darkness, who at this moment truly started meddling in the game.
"I made a bet with her, to see whose embrace you would fall into."
Belphegor walked towards Ewen, softly advising, "Ewen, you’ve seen the true face of this woman. You should understand her nature... she will only diminish all sense of story, but I am different. We had such pleasant conversations before, didn’t we? Do you not yearn to glimpse the ’Endless Poems’?"
Belphegor had waited long for this opportunity, believing that after all this, Ewen ought to have no reason to reject him.
Ewen did not turn back. All the schemes connected together, filling him with fear. He hadn’t expected to draw the attention of two devils. Then he felt absurd, a strange smile appearing on his face.
Ewen stood in the darkness for a long time, and at a certain moment, he grew tired of waiting and walked towards Asmodeus. But just then, a strong hand grabbed him, and instantly the darkness receded, with Bologue’s voice close at hand.
Bologue asked anxiously, "What are you going to do?"
Ewen blinked, stunned for two seconds, and when he turned around, he could no longer see Belphegor, while Asmodeus was still ahead, as beautiful as in his distant memory.
"You love me, Ewen, temporarily, and cheaply... but I’m right here, what you want is within reach."
Asmodeus stood her ground waiting for Ewen; she did not approach, she awaited Ewen to come to her.
"Are you afraid? What are you afraid of?"
Seeing Ewen unmoved, Asmodeus frowned. This development differed from what she imagined. Based on her calculations, when she revealed her true self and extended the invitation to Ewen, he should have delightedly moved closer, just like many who adored her before.
With just a beckon, no one could refuse.
"This is a test, Bologue."
Ewen whispered, "She wants distortion, contradiction, collapse under conflict."
Bologue didn’t understand Ewen’s words, nor could he grasp the love-hate issue between Ewen and Asmodeus. Bologue’s thoughts were simple; he wanted to lead the others to safety out of here.
"A test? Then I suppose she’s not testing me, is she?"
In all the bad news, there were one or two pieces of good news, such as Bologue realizing Asmodeus’s target was Ewen, though he didn’t know exactly why.
Damn it, as if from some long-ago time, the devils’ traps were already set, and I was unlucky enough to get involved... Bologue initially thought he had brought harm to Ewen.
As Ewen smiled helplessly, Bologue raised his hand, preparing to make a cut on his palm with a dagger. Before he could slash down, Ewen reached out to stop Bologue.
"It requires a blood sacrifice," Bologue explained his action. "I might die... but I am the Undead."
This round of Event Cards wasn’t drawn favorably. Bologue had already thrown all the python corpses into the meat grinder, yet it was still not enough, far from enough.
Bologue prepared to use his blood to nourish the meat grinder. Though he might die of blood loss, as an Undead, it would likely be a false state of death, not to mention he was also the Chosen One of the Astronaut.
The thought was dismal, but now Bologue had to use everything he could. If he ended up falling into the hands of the Joyous Desire Witch, perhaps the Astronaut would intervene to save him.
Bologue didn’t want to entrust his fate to the devils, but he had no other options now.
"This is a test for me," Ewen emphasized, "I know her objective."
Ewen spoke, looking at Asmodeus, who had her arms open. As if she knew Ewen’s thoughts, Asmodeus questioned him back, "Ewen, how much are you willing to pay for your nobility?"
"Are you questioning me?"
"I question everyone," Asmodeus suddenly moved close, like a gust of wind, in front of Ewen, "I question all of human nature... humans are nothing more than beasts of desire. The only reason you uphold courtesy is by restraining, suppressing your desires."
"Why not unleash your nature?"
Delicate fingers pressed against Ewen’s chest. She wanted to draw out Ewen’s desires, to watch him shatter his so-called nobility into pieces. Asmodeus enjoyed this kind of game.
Ewen looked at the meat grinder, "Is this some kind of wager?"
"Hmm?"
"It’s not just a bet between you and him; it’s also a kind of bet between you and me?"
