Chapter 758: Chapter 231 Counterattack

Aimou nervously watched the Dawn on the chessboard, a small model puffing out thick smoke, with a bridge spanning the canyon ahead waiting for its arrival.

Once they crossed this bridge, the wilderness map would end, with a supply point waiting for them, followed by a new coastal map.

Under Aimou’s gaze, the sea surface was turbulent, with slender dark shadows barely discernible to the naked eye gliding beneath the waves, resembling schools of fish.

Unnoticed, Cinderella approached Aimou. Like her, Cinderella was also fixated on the sea surface on the chessboard, noticing something unusual, her voice carrying a hint of excitement.

"Did you see it!"

"See what?"

Aimou became alert. In a sense, Aimou was a shy person, intensely wary of strangers.

In this makeshift team, Cinderella was undoubtedly the most worthy of her vigilance. At first, Aimou didn’t understand why, but soon she rationally analyzed and figured it out.

Cinderella was a blank slate, literally a blank slate. Aimou knew more or less about the past of both Ewen and Canary, but Cinderella was different; like everyone else with Ewen, they knew nothing about Cinderella.

"Whale!"

Cinderella pointed to the sea on the chessboard, a pitch-black shadow swiming beneath the surface, stirring white waves.

"So, does it mean we’ll see whales next?"

"I don’t know."

Aimou shook her head. In this situation, she had no mood to enjoy the scenery.

Thunderous gunfire continued, Palmer was still supporting Bologue, sporadic bullets striking the Fear-Devouring Demon, and shattering the strong Scale Armor.

Hurried footsteps approached from overhead. Bologue and Canary had already returned, the enemy’s strength far exceeded their expectations, forcing them to retreat strategically and use the game’s mechanics to defeat the opponent.

While the three fought valiantly, Aimou wasn’t idle either. She gestured to Cinderella to follow her, as the two Alchemists held daggers, trying to guard the door and fend off the Demons lingering inside the carriage.

Aimou didn’t count on Cinderella being much help; she was, after all, an ordinary person, most of the battle had to rely on herself.

The body was screaming with pain and exhaustion, joints sore as if the lubricant between machine parts had solidified, making Aimou once again aware of the fragility of flesh and blood, knowing that in previous battles, she had fought with a Steel Body.

Aimou whispered encouragement to herself, "You can do it, Aimou."

Cinderella struggled to hold the door, and whenever a Demon stretched an arm through the broken hole, Aimou would fiercely strike it with a dagger. Their coordination was barely adequate, but facing the approaching horde, they struggled to maintain the defense line.

"Palmer!"

Aimou could hardly hold on any longer, calling out to Palmer for help, but when she looked towards the window, Palmer was already gone. Following this, sharp cries erupted overhead, Bologue’s roar and the Fear-Devouring Demon’s roar blended, then promptly interrupted by powerful gunfire.

They were experiencing an exceedingly brutal struggle, unable to spare any effort to aid Aimou, a hoarse hum emanated from behind the door, yet another bloody arm stretched out, aimlessly grabbing at Cinderella. If Cinderella dodged, the precarious door would collapse, but not evading meant this blow would hit her directly.

Aimou jabbed the dagger, trying to sever it, but the consecutive battles had left her utterly exhausted. The dagger cut into flesh, but was stuck in solid bone.

Just as the defense was completely collapsing, a powerful arm took Aimou’s dagger, Ewen exerted all his strength on the knife handle, accompanied by a dry tearing sound, Ewen forcibly severed the Demon’s arm.

The Demon slammed its head against the door, its ghastly head thrust inside, attempting to bite Aimou, but then Ewen wielded a steel pen, the sharp metal tip piercing the Demon’s eye, deeply embedding into the bloodied socket.

Amidst its shrill wail, the dagger cut through the Demon’s throat, then reversed again, in an exceptionally brutal manner, decapitating it.

The severed head tumbled down with warm blood onto the ground, Ewen’s towering figure replaced Aimou holding the door, simultaneously chopping off the randomly stretching hands.

Aimou shouted while pulling out another dagger, "I thought you were useless!"

"I just hadn’t found the right opportunity to shine."

In the previous battle, Bologue and others were more than capable of handling themselves, the Demon’s threat was significant, but couldn’t stop their blade, Ewen had no necessity to participate in the fight, if he had joined, it might have slowed down others.

But now it’s different. The team has reduced in number, and the strong enemy suppressed the Hunters. Ewen must step up, just like turning the tide in the stories!

The train door wobbled, screws twisted and flew off. Rather than a door, it now looked more like a battered shield.

"Get ready!"

Ewen shouted to Aimou and Cinderella. Before the next wave of Demon attacks, Ewen suddenly lifted the door, like a guard charging with a shield, pushing back and knocking down the Demons behind.

The battle moved to the next carriage. Ewen dragged the door as a shield. Just as he was about to retreat back into the chessboard carriage, a barrage of bullets shot in from the window, killing all those Demons.

"Pull me up!"

Palmer was hanging upside down outside the train, and the timely shooting was just a coincidence.

Canary struggled to pull Palmer up. The strong wind hit them, making it hard to stand, their bodies overheated, and vision blurred.

Palmer and Bologue had a plan, but it was ruthlessly disrupted by the Fear-Devouring Demon. Bologue and Canary were not enough to completely restrain the Fear-Devouring Demon, let alone have someone to execute the plan.

In such a crisis, Palmer temporarily forgot those in the chessboard carriage and rushed out to assist Bologue in battle. They planned to use game mechanics to kick the Fear-Devouring Demon off the train.

Yes, there’s no need to kill it, just kick it off the train.

While Bologue and Canary completely controlled the Fear-Devouring Demon, Palmer delivered a flying kick to the Fear-Devouring Demon’s body. But obviously, the two were not of the same weight class, and the Fear-Devouring Demon didn’t budge at all. Palmer almost got swept under the train.

Fortunately, Canary leaped and grabbed Palmer’s ankle. While she was rescuing Palmer, Bologue struggled to fight the Fear-Devouring Demon.

This monster was far more troublesome than Bologue imagined. Large pieces of scales shattered, but the Fear-Devouring Demon still maintained a certain defense. The two Great Scythes it wielded were extremely lethal. Bologue was no longer Undead; if hit by these Great Scythes, he would surely die.

"Quick! We’re approaching the bridge!"

Palmer noticed the approaching bridge and urged urgently. Whether they could deal with the Fear-Devouring Demon depends on this move.

Canary continuously fired crossbow arrows, aiming all of them at the Fear-Devouring Demon’s abdomen. In the ongoing battle, a large area of the scales had already been damaged. This time, the arrows did not bounce off but embedded entirely into the flesh.

Palmer fired to suppress, while the Fear-Devouring Demon raised the Great Scythes, crisscrossing in front to block Palmer’s shooting. Bologue took this opportunity to launch a fierce attack. Just as he stepped forward, the Fear-Devouring Demon, like waiting for it long ago, slashed forward with the crossed Great Scythes.

This vicious monster was unexpectedly smart, deliberately setting a trap for Bologue, but obviously, it underestimated Bologue.

Bologue didn’t slow down at all, swiftly dodging to one side, leaping into the air. Just when he was about to fall from the roof, Bologue swung a Short Knife, nailing into the roof. Using it as a pivot, his body drew a semicircle in mid-air, and when he jumped back on the roof, Bologue had already reached behind the Fear-Devouring Demon.

The tough scale armor protected most of the Fear-Devouring Demon’s body surface, but to maintain flexibility, the protection at the joints was inevitably thinner.

Bologue decisively swung the sword, blood flowers sprouted at the Fear-Devouring Demon’s leg joints. It tried to turn and slash at Bologue, but a swift dark shadow approached its head. Palmer struck with the Dagger, precisely cutting open the Fear-Devouring Demon’s eyeball. Palmer intended to use a gun, but after continuous fire suppression, he had run out of ammunition.

The blade nailed into the Fear-Devouring Demon’s leg joint. Bologue twisted the sword hilt, prying open the bone and fascia with brute metal force. The Fear-Devouring Demon roared, kneeling down. Canary fired crossbow arrows again, following the wound Palmer had opened, arrow pierced into the eye socket of the Fear-Devouring Demon.

Palmer took over the attack, raising the Dagger horizontally, tapping the end of the arrow with the knife blade, trying to nail it completely into the Fear-Devouring Demon’s brain. The terrifying Great Scythes swung wildly, and Palmer couldn’t avoid in time, a bloody wound opened on his thigh.

At the same time, Bologue succeeded in cutting off the Fear-Devouring Demon’s shin.

The Dawn entered the steep bridge; an endless gust of wind came head-on, pressing everyone down. Even the powerful body of the Fear-Devouring Demon, at this moment, wavered unsteadily due to injuries and wind interference.

The Fear-Devouring Demon roared and turned to slash at Bologue, but at the moment it turned, the cold blade penetrated down its gaping maw. The blade pierced through its throat. Bologue released the hilt, kicking the Fear-Devouring Demon.

The two figures crossed and quickly separated. The Fear-Devouring Demon, losing balance, fell off the roof. It unwillingly swung a Great Scythe, slashing through most of the carriage, finally crashing powerlessly into the deep canyon below the bridge.

Bologue was also pushed off the roof by this blow. But just as he was about to face the same fate as the Fear-Devouring Demon, a hand grabbed Bologue. He slammed against the train, blood surging.

"I got you!"

Palmer, dragging his wounded leg, laid on the roof. He shouted at Bologue, trying to drown out the howling wind.

"I got you!"
