Chapter 620: Chapter 646: The Light Shines on the Body

Daniel Harris supported her and said, "You still have a low fever. The doctor told you to drink more water after waking up."

"Thank you," Mabel Quinn said, steadying herself and taking two steps back.

Daniel felt a sudden emptiness in his hand, that hollow feeling hit him again. He knew she wanted to keep her distance from him.

"I had someone wash and dry your clothes. I’ll have a servant bring them to you in a bit. As for your bag..." He walked over to a low cabinet and handed a shoulder bag to Mabel.

Mabel took the bag, opened it, and took out her phone. She checked the time; it was already past 9 PM. She had been unconscious for so long.

She hurriedly called Kyle Kinston, but surprisingly, no one answered the phone.

Was Kyle taking a shower at this time? Is that why he didn’t answer? Then she saw the message Alice Conley sent, saying Kyle had already discovered they hadn’t gone shopping together. Suddenly, an uneasy feeling crept into Mabel’s heart.

"I really need to leave now. Could you get my clothes for me quickly, please?" she said.

"Okay, don’t rush." Daniel called over a servant and instructed them to bring the dried clothes. While waiting for the clothes, Mabel kept glancing anxiously toward the bedroom door, while his gaze remained fixed on her. Was she in such a hurry to see Kyle?

Even the last words she uttered before passing out were that she wanted to see Kyle.

And all of this, perhaps, could have been his if, from the start, he had found her. He would have done everything to make her fall in love with him. Then would the only person she loved in her life have been him?

The servant finally brought Mabel’s clothing. She took it, went into the bathroom, and changed. Then she hurriedly prepared to leave the bedroom.

"I’ll take you back!" Daniel said.

"No need," she refused. "I’ll just get a cab myself and go back."

"But it’s dangerous for a single woman at this hour, and besides, it’s the first day of the New Year, so it’s hard to get a cab."

"There’s really no need," Mabel said. "I don’t want to cause any unnecessary misunderstandings, so getting a cab myself is best."

Daniel pressed his lips together but finally said, "Then let me see you out."

When the two of them reached the entrance of the Han Estate, Mabel said, "It’s fine, I can go out myself. Thank you for today."

Daniel reached out and pressed the button to open the estate’s automatic iron gate.

As the two iron gates slowly opened, Daniel suddenly grabbed Mabel, "I don’t know what you’re going through, but if there’s anything I can do to help, no matter how difficult, I’d be willing to do it without hesitation."

Mabel gave a bitter smile. There was nothing anyone could help her with, and the only father who brought her home had long since passed away.

Thinking of her father, and the man who, in his last moment of life, had tried so hard to pull her ashore, her tears started to fall uncontrollably.

Seeing this, Daniel quickly raised his hand to wipe the tears from her face, "Don’t cry, I didn’t say these things to make you cry."

"No need, I’ll take care of it myself." She turned her head slightly to avoid his hand and was about to wipe away her tears when suddenly, a strong car light shone on both her and Daniel.
