Chapter 612: Chapter 638: Meeting

"I don’t think there’s anything more for us to say," Mabel Quinn said.

"Don’t you want the household registration book? Is it really okay if you and Kyle Kinston can’t get married?" Evelina asked urgently.

"Even without the household registration book, I think I can still get married!" Mabel said, finding her mother’s actions somewhat ridiculous. Did her mother really think that by holding the household registration book, she could control someone else’s life?

"Then... don’t you care about your father at all?" Evelina said, "What I want to tell you is related to your father. Are you coming or not?"

Mabel’s heart was stirred. Her father was her weak spot; matters concerning him naturally piqued her interest.

But she also knew, given her mother’s personality, she wouldn’t bring up her father without a reason. Was it about money again? 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎

"If you want to talk to me about father, then you come find me yourself," Mabel said.

"Okay, okay, I’ll come right now. Where are you?" Evelina agreed repeatedly.

Mabel reported her current location, and Evelina told her to wait for 10 minutes.

Ten minutes later, Evelina appeared in front of her. Looking at the woman she should call mother, Mabel felt the other seemed to have aged quite a bit recently. Her mother didn’t have much gray hair before and used to pay a lot of attention to her appearance, dyeing her hair every three months. But now, it seemed she hadn’t dyed it in a long time. Many gray hairs mixed with the black, and the wrinkles on her face seemed to have increased. She wasn’t wearing any makeup, not even lipstick.

This was different from the mother she used to know.

"What do you want to say about father?" Mabel asked.

"Why don’t we find somewhere to sit and talk? This isn’t the place for a conversation," Evelina suggested.

Mabel glanced around and saw that only a dessert shop was still open, so she turned and walked towards it, with Evelina quickly following.

Once inside, they found a seat and sat down. Evelina ordered a bowl of dessert and then asked, "Mabel, what would you like to eat? Today, it’s my treat."

"No need," Mabel replied. "I don’t have an appetite. You might as well just say what you have to say."

Evelina bit her lip, then put on a pitiful look and said, "Mabel, I really have no other choice, so I’m begging you; you have no idea what kind of life I’m living right now. Debt collectors come every day, and they’ve sprayed red paint on the wall outside our house. Those people say if I don’t pay back the money, they’ll take my life. I’m begging you, save my life."

But even with that expression on her mother’s face, Mabel felt no stir in her heart. Perhaps it was because she had truly become cold to her mother. "If that’s the case, you should go to the police, not me. You can seek their protection."

"But... but how can the police protect me 24 hours a day?" Evelina said. "You... you just need to give me 20 million. 20 million, it’s a small amount for you, right? You’re about to marry Kyle, and in the future, half of the Kinston Family’s things will be yours!"

"I don’t have 20 million. When you once asked me to pay 10 million to buy all of father’s belongings, it severed all mother-daughter ties between us. From then on, you’re you, and I’m me," Mabel said.
