Educated Youth in the Countryside: She is the Village's Embroidery Queen!-Chapter 398: Just Give Them a Beating
"What’s wrong?"
"Meow!"
Da Li turned his head and meowed at her, then went to the door and tapped it with his paw.
He looked back at her.
Yi Chichi understood instantly. It meant he wanted her to open the door.
She pulled back the blanket and got out of bed, but instead of opening the door immediately, she ran to check their toilet, the litter box.
These two were particular, insisting on separating wet and dry in the house.
The fine-soil box was specifically for burying poop, while the sawdust box was for pee.
The dirt box was especially clean, but the sawdust was quite wet.
Yi Chichi was puzzled, "You two want to go outside to poop?"
Da Li and the others couldn’t understand her, but they sensed the noise outside was getting louder and became anxious.
Instantly, the sound of shrill cat cries echoed inside, their backs arched, eyes fixed on the door, and began hissing.
This was a posture cats take when they sense danger.
Seeing them like this, Yi Chichi’s heart skipped a beat. What’s happening outside?
For no reason, Da Li and the others wouldn’t be like this. Could something have come in?
"Meow meow meow..."
Seeing her just standing there, they both wailed loudly and sharply.
Yi Chichi couldn’t stand it anymore, quickly dismantled the armrest from the embroidery frame, and grabbed some defensive powder to pocket as she opened the door.
No matter what’s outside, being prepared is never wrong.
It would be best if it left. But if it didn’t, considering Da Li and Big Orange’s fighting abilities, combined with her armrest weapon and powder, they had a fighting chance.
The plan was good, but what she didn’t expect was that as soon as the door opened, Da Li and Big Orange darted out like lightning.
They landed silently, showcasing the advantage of felines to the fullest.
Yi Chichi didn’t turn on the lights; the two disappeared as soon as they dashed out.
She tiptoed towards the outside, when suddenly the main door creaked, and a gust of cold wind blew in.
Then—
"Oh my, what’s scratching me?"
"Ow hú lú..."
The slightly panicked male voice and Da Li’s angry cries sounded together.
Yi Chichi’s eyes widened suddenly. Oh my, why does this voice sound like Wen Shi’s?
Just as the thought popped into her head, the familiar male voice sounded again, "Damn cats, don’t scratch, ouch ouch ouch..."
Good grief, it really was Wen Shi.
Yi Chichi quickly spoke up, "Big Orange, Da Li, stop, it’s not a stranger."
As she spoke, she turned on the light.
She saw the two cats leaping up and attacking Wen Shi, who was trying his best to dodge their attacks with a miserable expression.
He was even cautiously reaching out to retaliate.
Yi Chichi’s mouth twitched, loudly reminding, "Cover your head and face, crouch down into a ball and just let them beat you up a bit."
Wen Shi, with a face of disbelief, asked, "Wife, am I still your husband?"
After so long without seeing each other, she didn’t even rush over for a sweet greeting, but instead suggested he just be passive and let the cats attack?
Is this really something a true wife would do?
Yi Chichi was also helpless. She looked at the two angrily meowing kittens and advised, "I can’t calm them down. If you don’t let them vent, we won’t have any peace tonight."
She didn’t dare to risk intervening personally; with cats, once their tempers flare, they can’t distinguish friend from foe.
They needed to calm down themselves. She didn’t want to be pummeled with "meow fists" or scratched until her face was a mess.
So, it had to be Wen Shi who took the blow.
"Hurry up, don’t dawdle."
Wen Shi sighed, alright, whatever the wife says goes.
He pulled down his hat, adjusted his scarf, tucked his hands into his army coat sleeves, and squatted down into a ball.
The two puffed-up cats leaped back in surprise as soon as he lowered himself.
Quickly, elegantly, and nimbly.
Then, they both looked at Wen Shi with confusion and started conversing in cat-talk.
Yi Chichi, "..."
They seemed like two cats from those overdubbed busy cat videos.
"Meow?"
The two suddenly looked at her and meowed, as if asking what was going on.
"I told you, he’s one of us."
Yi Chichi was quite exasperated. It’s understandable for Big Orange not to recognize Wen Shi, as he hadn’t been around that long since birth.
But Da Li was different; he had seen Wen Shi before, yet didn’t recognize him.
"This is Wen Shi, go ahead and smell him well."
She picked up Da Li and brought him to Wen Shi. As she approached, Wen Shi lifted his head, and by coincidence, their noses touched.
Da Li, ready to puff up and attack, got confused by the vaguely familiar scent.
Immediately, he started sniffing intently. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
Wen Shi dared not move, eyes unblinking, as Da Li sniffed incessantly close to his face.
Just when his eyes were nearly crossing, Da Li suddenly relaxed and softened.
Yi Chichi let out a sigh of relief, finally recognizing him.
"Alright, danger over. Now go back to sleep with Big Orange!"
She released Da Li, who landed on the ground. Big Orange quickly came over to nuzzle him, meowing non-stop.
Da Li responded with a meow.
Then, instead of going back inside, they both turned their heads to the right in unison.
"Why are you up so late?!"
The newcomer, awakened by the commotion, was Wen’s mother. She came out groggy but questioned them in an extremely gentle tone, as if afraid of waking anyone.
"Mom, your son is back."
Wen’s mother was still groggy. Seeing this, Yi Chichi knew she hadn’t fully awakened and wouldn’t realize Wen Shi was there, so she reminded her.
Wen’s mother responded with an "Oh," saying, "He’s back, huh? No big deal."
Before she even finished speaking, she belatedly realized what Yi Chichi said, turned her head sharply, and saw Wen Shi’s face entering her vision.
Wen’s mother, "!!!"
"Emma, son, is it really you!"
She looked utterly incredulous yet wildly joyful.
Wen Shi grinned, "It’s me, Mom. Are you happy to see me? Surprised?"
Saying this, he briskly walked over and embraced Wen’s mother with open arms.
"Mom, I’ve missed you so much!"
Wen’s mother beamed, unable to close her mouth, "I’ve missed you too!"
She threw her arms around him, "You’ve lost weight."
Wen Shi, "And hungry. Is there anything to eat, Mom?"
Wen’s mother immediately responded, "Why don’t you ask your wife for something to eat?"
"My wife can’t cook."
Wen Shi declared matter-of-factly, and Yi Chichi nodded in agreement.
Wen’s mother sighed deeply, "You two are truly a pair."
The ironic thing is, she had put in the effort to get them together.
"Let go, I’ll go make you noodles."
Pasta for homecoming, Wen’s mother was not a native of Kao Shan Village, she wasn’t even from the Northeast.
But having lived in Kao Shan Village for so many years, her lifestyle was just like that of the original residents.
"Mom, is there meat?"
"There is. I’ll add it while making the noodles."
"Great!"
So, Wen’s mother went to the kitchen to make noodles. Wen Shi turned around wanting to hug Yi Chichi, but realized she was gone.
Suddenly panicked, "Wife, where did you go?"
"In the room, getting dressed."
She came out in such a rush, wearing only a big cotton jacket. If she didn’t put on more clothes, she’d freeze.
