Dungeon Raider System-Chapter 760: Foreigner in a foreign land Part 2
The Dungeon Raiders were taken aback by the many bounties placed on the board and their sizeable reward. It was as though money had a whole different meaning, but that suited Uriel well since he was still hurting the from the thousands credit bill he had to settle at the coffee shop.
The few hunting parties inside the agency took notice of the group of outsiders, but what called for their attention wasn't their appearance or even their power level, but the fact that after taking a quick look at the bounty board they left without so much talking to the clerk.
"What a bunch of pussies," One of them snarkily said. "I bet they got scared by the local fauna."
Uriel glared at them, but due to him concealing his flux energy it didn't have the desired effect and instead of intimidating them it only caused them to laugh at him which didn't sit well with him. Before he turned violent, though, the words Saint Germain echoed in his mind and he decided not to choose violence as his first option.
"That was very mature of you." Nika congratulated Uriel for keeping his cool, but the moment for shoulder patting ended when a commotion took over the agency when the defenders walked in with a large bag filled with best rank orbs.
Other hunters surrounded them, especially hazel, asking all sorts of questions, but she remained silent until she got to the desk to hand he report.
"Thirty Lemures!? In your first incursion!?" The clerk said loud enough for everyone to hear and even the supervisor showed up to confirm their bounty.
Each beast rank orb was a treasure for the agency as most of their POIs were of a level too high for most hunters to succeed and they paid a hefty amount to the leader of the Defenders with a big smile.
"Let's go." Uriel said as he turned to leave, returning barely before sunset with nothing but empty batteries and dirt on his clothes. Contrary to him, his companions were spotless clean which reinforced the hunters' suspicion that he had to be a regular human.
The next day and the one that followed the exact same thing happened. Hazel would return with a bag filled with beast rank orbs her team picked after hunting Lemures, which were among the weakest and most numerous creatures in Gibraltar, and Uriel returning with several empty batteries.
"You know me, I like to tease other hunting parties as much as the next guy, but this is starting to get sad. At this point they're losing money." The hunter who laughed at Uriel now looked at him with pity, which annoyed Uriel even more, but confronting them would only result in meaningless violence.
"Lemures, they are funny. They were considered cryptids before the arrival since they were so strange looking, but those were just animals. The Lemures from the legends are some sort of night demon that..." Luna said in an attempt to convince Uriel to hunt lemures instead of going for the bounties.
"Besides, they're pretty numerous. Why don't you at least let us hunt them by ourselves?" Alice asked, annoyed that all Uriel let them do was walk alongside him and watch as he fought against the merman. The answer for that was simple, but a secret nonetheless.
It would have been easy for Uriel to kill as many lemures as he wanted, but hunting them down was time consuming and they weren't worth much anyway. He also had his eyes set on the Merman king and his fishing spear, but that cryptid turned out to be even stronger than he initially thought.
All he was able to do was wait for the merman to crawl out of the water at night and fight them until the merman king showed up, then he was forced to retreat.
"At least let us fight, this is infuriating. I hate when people look at me with lust, but I'd rather have that than them looking at me with pity." Nika pouted.
"You're not allowed to fight until you learn to mind your flux consumption. Alice will likely be able to fire a shot or two before running out of flux and becoming a burden. Bella is still traumatized and is more of a liability than support. And Luna, well, she could help but..."
"You can say it, I'm too weak." Luna said as calm on the outside as she was raging on the inside.
"I just don't want to put you at risk. For some reason those things are way stronger than they should. Besides, I need you focused on finding out their weakness." Uriel said.
"Also, we can't risk our only medic." Nika added.
Before a week passed the Defenders had grown a reputation among the locals and people fawned over them like they were heroes among heroes. Thanks to Kristina's ability to track cryptids no matter their distance it was easy for them to find as many lemures as they wanted while keeping clear of stronger enemies.
Hazel's abilities were also a defining factor in their success as she enclosed the cryptids in earth prisons leaving them open to attacks while rendering unable to strike back despite their eerily long fingers.
All these advantages earned the Defenders a spot in the ranking of the local hunting parties, which came along with many perks among which were free accommodations, reduced prices at the agency and not to mention the VIP treatment they enjoyed from the locals.
Uriel grunted every time he noticed the different in treatment they received, but could do nothing about it since the Dungeon Raiders remained at the bottom of the ranking, even below the ascended rank hunting parties.
Day by day the locals watched how Uriel returned more tired, more dirty and with expenses so high it would have forced most hunting parties into bankrupcy.
But they all failed to noticed one small detail, which was that albeit they couldn't notice Uriel's energy signature, they should have been able to notice the growth of his now bulging muscles that forced him into buying clothes one size bigger from his souvenir shop.
