Dungeon Raider System-Chapter 378: The perfect hideout
In order to prove the Medusa that showed up was fake and not the real one, Uriel had but one choice: to find the original and rescue her from the skinwalkers. The Medusa that came with Sam said all the right things, was immune to silver and she was exactly the same but Uriel knew in his heart that it couldn't be the real one precisely because she came with Sam.
If she truly wanted to go back to her family, which was unlikely, she wouldn't rely on Sam for that. Not because it wasn't convenient, but she just broke up with Uriel and he knew she wasn't as cruel as to do something like that.
Skinwalkers, no matter their rank, were able to mimic every aspect of a human being. They were even able to perfectly imitate human emotion, but they didn't know how to act on those emotions because they were unable to experience them. Since doppelgangers used to be humans they might be different, but they too were allergic to silver.
All of that meant that the only possibility was that the creature that impersonated Medusa was the horror level skinwalker. Uriel had encountered it before and he didn't know the reason why that thing would be with Sam, he also didn't understand why did they miss the opportunity to kill him but the reason didn't matter. All Uriel cared now was to rescue Medusa and for that he needed Luna's help.
Luna was overjoyed to being able to ride on top of the jaguar spirit, even if it didn't show on her face. As soon as the jaguar began its race towards the east gate district, Luna clung to Uriel's back with too much force causing her nails to break his skin but the pain allowed him to remain focused and he didn't complain.
"Do you really know where you're going?" Asked Luna after they reached yet another dead end.
"I know where to go, I just don't know how to get there." Enjoy exclusive content from novelbuddy
"You said you interrogated a cryptid, but I never heard of something like that, can you be more specific?"
"All I know is that she's been kept underground somewhere in the east district... Idiot! I'm an Idiot!"
"Uhm, yes, but why do you feel the need to say it?"
"Because, I know exactly the kind of place where doppelgangers and skinwalkerss would have access to many strong hunters to impersonate and it fits the criteria. The ladder!"
Much to Luna's dismay, Uriel cancelled the summon and decided to walk since dawn was breaking and he didn't want to draw any more attention than he already had. Then he bought an exact replica of the mask he wore during his challenge to the ladder and headed directly towards that building.
It's location was perfect since it was right in the middle of the east distrinct and its slums, it was underground and many different hunters came and went. Uriel also suspected that the horror level skinwalker that infiltrated the city would attempt to take possession of a building, but he didn't think it would be one he'd been before.
As soon as they reached the entrance to the underground parking, Uriel realized something was off. Last time there were barely a couple hunters guarding the entrance, but now there were at least five of them all armed to the teeth.
"You can't go in today, today's show is private." One of the guards stopped them at the entrance. Uriel raked up his brain, but before he could figure out an answer, another guard elbowed the one who spoke before.
"Are you blind? Look at his mask, he's a challenger. You may come in, Sir. By the way, last time you made me a lot of money and I'm really thankful." The guard nodded at Uriel who walked past them all.
"Sorry, but children aren't allowed." The first guard attempted to block Luna. He was tall, with legs as broad as Luna, but all it took for Luna to remove him from her way was a small prod.
"You may come in too." The man who just fell on his butt replied amidst the laughter of his comrades.
"This place is dark, moist and the air is stale." Luna pointed out.

"I'm sorry, if you want you can still wait outside and come in when I call you."
"No," Luna shook her head. "It's comfortable."
Uriel didn't miss the fact that a hybrid like Luna found the place 'comfortable' and it only reassured him that his theory was correct and that Medusa had to be somewhere in the building, but walking around without any excuse would raise all the alarms.
To prevent that, Uriel asked Nika to come out of his shadow as soon as he found a secluded place, but Uriel didn't need to utter a word for her to understand what did he want her to do and she disappeared into the shadows to look for Medusa.
"Good morning sir, we weren't expecting your visit and I'm afraid today's fights have already been scheduled." The woman in charge of handing out the winnings walked towards them.
"I'd like to participate anyway."
"The thing is, today is a special event and I don't think you..."
"I'm here to fight, one way or the other." Uriel cut her short and the woman fell silent. She was more than accustomed to dealing with the fighters, if regular hunters were arrogant and impolite, the champions of the ladder were even worse.
Luna scanned her surroundings and she soon realized what kind of place it was. She wondered why Uriel was already acquainted with the woman and how did he know about that place, but she didn't let any of that bother her and she went to buy some snacks.
"Good luck." Was all Luna said as she sat on the bleachers and after a short wait, the presenter showed up in his glittering attire.
"Ladies, gentlemen and others!..."
