Dungeon Raider System-Chapter 211: Happy hunting grounds
The stampede finished as swiftly as it started and Medusa smiled dazzingly while holding the still wounded pixiephant on her arms, completely disregarding the corpses of hundreds of cryptids and a couple of fallen soldiers. It wasn’t that she didn’t care about human life, but as a member of the Works family she in open enmity with the army.
"That was close," Said Nika as she emptied her last battery recharging her handgun. "Dammit! I’m out."
"Me too." Sam said dejectedly. His self confidence took a great hit now that he was defenseless.
"I’m alright." Uriel shrugged in reply to their companions awkward glare and he threw his tier 2 battery towards Sam who caught it in the air.
"Are you sure about this?"
"It’s for the best, your aim is better than mine."
"That’s an understatement if I ever heard one!" Nika said with a soft giggle. "Hey boss, how did you know how to escape from those things?" Find exclusive stories on novelbuddy
"We didn’t escape, the reason why we didn’t face that many cryptids is the same reason why we haven’t reached the rainbow yet. I figured it out after my nap, when I woke up the rainbow was further away than when I went to sleep, this means the island is spinning."

"I see! So that’s why more cryptids came from one direction! That also means that uncle Jon has probably reached the rainbow too." Medusa added.
"I didn’t think of that. Everyone, we can’t let that bastard beat us! We need to hurry!" At Uriel’s command, everyone in his party started running full speed, leaving the soldiers behind. Most of them were too injured to move and they definitely were in no shape to follow but that didn’t stop Ethan from abandoning them.
Frostbite was the only body-abled soldiers besides Ethan, but he too was having trouble keeping up with the speed of the heavenly rank soldier.

"Absolutely wonderful!" Jon gazed at the gateway in front of him. It was built with stone and filled with mysterious carvings that made no sense to him nor to any modern linguist. He then started copying the glyphs on his notepad, looking over his shoulder from time to time.
He wasn’t worried about cryptids because, now that he was all by himself, he had no issues activating his powerful trait. The reason why he was so anxious to finish copying the carvings before the group appeared was because he didn’t want anyone to suspect he misled everyone on purpose.
Although copying symbols should have been unnecessary because he could have taken a picture, his keen senses allowed Jon to know that the gateway emitted a field of disruption much similar to that of cryptids. That’s why he was forced to copy it before thoroughly smashing the ancient scripture into pieces.
"This should do," He wiped his forehead and patted himself on the shoulder for a job well done, without even a hint of remorse after destroying invaluable cultural remains. The most vile sin an archaeologist could commit.
As hours passed he was starting to worry about the safety of his party, both women were important to him. Medusa, because she was the heir to the Mapple corp. and Seiren, because of two ’big reasons’. Thinking about this sort of important matters, Jon was taken by surprise by the arrival of Uriel’s party, followed soon after by Ethan and Frostbite.
They were sweaty, disheveled and exhausted, but thanks to Jon hunting most of the cryptids on his way, their trip was mostly safe.
"This is the emergency exit." Jon said with a smile.
"Why is it broken?" Uriel asked with suspicion.
"Some big ass cryptid was blocking the way and I used too much force." Jon lied through his teeth. Seiren, who tagged along with Uriel’s party, noticed he was lying though she was too exhausted to care about anything.
"We can finally go back home!" Sam let out in open relief.
"Didn’t you say we had to reach the island at the center? We’re still in the outer rim of this weird archipelago." Nika asked Uriel.
"This is an emergency exit, if we go out we’ll come back but that doesn’t count as clearing the dungeon." Uriel explained.
"Our goal wasn’t to clear this dungeon, but to secure the orichalcum veins which, by the way, we still haven’t found." Seiren stated.
"Actually, I found them on the second world, they’re at the bottom right beneath the islands, though it’s a dangerous place."
"How dangerous can a place like that be, when a single ascended made it back unhurt?" Ethan grinned after Uriel revealed the location of the orichalcum veins. Now that he achieved his goal he had no use for anybody else in the whole expedition.
"You guys can go, but I’m staying. This place is too interesting and I want to study it before more ’big ass cryptids’ destroy or steal valuable cultural objects.
"There’s no way I’m leaving you behind!" Nika exclaimed.
"This place is most likely what they called "Happy hunting grounds" which was the native American simile to the afterlife. Are you sure you want to stay with me? I don’t even know when will I be able to go back" Uriel asked and Nika’s face crumpled. While she was ready to face any danger to protect her companion, she didn’t want to have anything to do with things like that.
All the remaining members of the expedition discussed for a while on whether or not someone should be allowed to stay. In spite of all the dangers they faced, their loot consisted on monster rank flux orbs and those were pretty common in the outside.
They all thought entering the dungeon would mean becoming rich immediately, but so far their loot was almost non existent.
"If only we took at least one of those palanquins with ourselves." Frostbite regretted not stealing from the air spirit people, though at the time that thought didn’t even cross his mind because he was too busy with the female air spirits.
"It’s not safe to stay behind, but I don’t think it’ll be safe to take the emergency exit either." Jon said, though the only one who understood his words was Uriel who had gone through a similar situation in Chichén Itzá.
"The guardian will be waiting for us outside..." He whispered.
"Precisely, unless we clear the dungeon first." Jon said with a charming smile that put Ethan’s usual grin to shame.
