Chapter 157: Mommy, Don’t You Like My Daddy?

"Mommy, don’t you like my Daddy?"

Like him? Celine thought. She liked him, she liked him very much, it was just that...

"And...is it true that Daddy doesn’t want us?" As Leah asked this, there seemed to be glimmers of tears in her eyes.

"Who told you that Sweetie?" Celine was startled that the girl had such an idea in her mind. Even if this was something she had thought about several times, she would never place the idea in their minds.

"Leo, he said that Daddy abandoned us because he doesn’t want us. Is that true Mommy? Why does Daddy dislike us?"

Celine was beyond shocked, she had never once thought that her children felt this way, while she had been trying to prevent them from the painful feeling of rejection from their own father, she had no idea that her children were actually feeling that pain of rejection this whole time.

The tears she had been holding slid down her face as she pulled Leah into her arms, she wanted to say something to make her daughter feel better but no words could come to mind.

’Why doesn’t our Daddy want us?’ her daughter’s words echoed in her head again on repeat.

She had no idea...she also had no idea if he did or not... Celine’s eyes widened as a realization hit her, she had no idea because she never once asked, she had been constantly afraid he’d reject her kids but she had never sought up the courage to find out if he didn’t want them or why.

At first, she didn’t want to ruin his happiness or become the homewrecker in his relationship with Erica Williams, and then she had been afraid of having them face the pain if ever their father was to reject them. Never had she thought her kids had been stuffing up the pain to themselves, what she had been trying to protect them against.

They must have thought about her feelings and never mentioned anything so as not to hurt her, they stuffed in the thought that their own father abandoned them and didn’t want them, such a disappointing pain for a little child... Celine hugged her daughter even closer, whispering a soft apology to her.

And her little Leo was braver and never showed it to her even once.

"Mommy, will you let me meet my Daddy? I just want to ask him why." Little Leah innocently asked from her mother’s embrace.

Celine wiped her tears then pulled Leah out of the hug, she gazed at her daughter’s face with regret in her eyes. Her daughter wanted to have a happy family, how could she tell the girl it couldn’t be because her father was now married to someone else?

But then...her heart hurt even more, everytime she thought about him her heart would hurt painfully, because with each moment from the time she had agreed to marry Julian, Tristan’s memories haunted her even more.

From the time she had first seen him again after five years, to that evening at the company’s anniversary ball, his gentle kisses and words on the rooftop, and the time he had rescued her from those attackers, he had stayed all night with her at the hospital, he looked after her, she had felt like every moment was precious, then the night they got locked in and the words he had said to her.

On that night, she had felt his pain, it pricked her heart like a painful stake sent into her chest, at that time she didn’t see the usual cold and aloof president Tristan Grayson, but just plain Tristan, a man who needed and was very capable of falling in love, and she couldn’t deny the fact that on that night, she had seen a different emotion for her in his eyes, she had felt it...an emotion similar or even deeper than the one she felt for him.

She had asked herself that what if... what if he felt the same way for her?

But such thoughts should no longer exist in her mind, not when he called another woman his wife.

At this very moment, Natalia burst into the room. "You won’t believe what I just..."

Natalia trailed off, seeing the mother and daughter sitting with such heavy emotion around them.

"What’s wrong Nat?" Celine wiped off her tears, sensing Natalia wanted to tell her something urgent.

Natalia glanced at the child knowing this wasn’t a conversation to be had in front of her, and she couldn’t send the child away with her clinging so closely to her mother, so she decided to speak in code.

"Someone who is supposed to be married isn’t actually married at all, he never showed up at the altar." Natalia said too eager to share the news to call it off for some other time.

"What are you talking about?" Celine didn’t understand a word of what she meant.

Sighing in frustration, Natalia shoved her phone in Celine’s face, "Just read it!"

Celine blinked for a moment to focus on the screen before the words began to register in her mind.

*Erica Williams has been admitted into Neville City Hospital after she fainted on the spot on what was supposed to be her wedding, rumor has it that the groom failed to show up, leaving her stranded and alone at the altar. Miss Williams has posted a heartbroken line on social media garnering massive sympathy and questions from the general public. But the main question remains; Why did Mr Grayson back out of his own wedding?*

Celine read the article in pure disbelief, along the paragraphs several images were inserted of Erica being taken to the hospital in her own wedding gown and a shot of the post she made about choosing to give up than endure the pain of heartbreak.

It all settled into Celine’s mind in a crashing realization.

"He...backed out of the wedding?" She questioned Natalia, her astonishment evident in her eyes.

Natalia nodded like a woodpecker, "Do you know what this means?" She exclaimed.

Celine didn’t reply, her mind working speedily, trying to look for a possible reason.

"There’s only one reason a man backs out of his own wedding Celine." She said, looking at little Leah who didn’t seem that interested in this conversation before whispering to Celine, "He realized a little too late that he might have fallen in love with another woman!"

Celine sighed and gave Natalia a weary look.

"I fear I might have been too hasty in my advice that you move on, what if..." Celine didn’t wait to hear what Natalia would say next. She knew it would be some silly romantic ideas about why he never showed up to his own wedding.

"There is no what if, Natalia, whatever his reasons might be, it’s his own personal business."

"Fine, fine, it might be too late anyway. If he wanted you, he should have come for you a long time ago, not when you already..." Natalia stopped, realizing again that the child was in the room, she didn’t want to break the news to the girl that her mother had already agreed to marry someone else. But none of her romantic theories could help her come up with a solution to this complicated triangle.

What would happen now? Would Celine be free to go for the father of her children, the man she genuinely had feelings for, or would she choose to forget him entirely and pick the man who seems to love her so wholeheartedly?

In order to find an answer to these questions, Natalia knew she had no choice but to wait and see.

If the Grayson man had any balls, this would be the perfect time to come for his woman, before she truly married someone else.
