Chapter 186: Chapter 186: The First Time Facing Off Against the Third Young Master, Speechless

Bella Woods answered the call and casually sat cross-legged on the lawn.

Ashton Marshall appeared to be in a hotel room, sitting on a sofa with his phone propped on the coffee table, leaning slightly forward with his elbows on his knees, looking calmly at Bella Woods.

"I was painting just now and didn’t hear the phone ring." Bella explained for missing Ashton’s call.

Ashton remained silent, just staring at Bella steadfastly.

His gaze always had a penetrating sharpness, and even across the screen, Bella felt uneasy under his scrutiny.

Especially after hearing Nina Sutton’s story, Bella had a swirl of emotions she couldn’t express.

For her, their relationship was fleeting, just a game, and she didn’t want to cause any trouble before going abroad.

"Are you going to keep staring at me like this?" Bella asked, puzzled. "If there’s nothing else, I need to pack up and go to the Woods Family for dinner."

"Going to the Woods Family for dinner?" Ashton frowned.

"Yes. My mom just called, saying my brother’s back, and I should come home for a family dinner." Bella explained simply.

Ashton’s frown deepened: "Why is your brother back on a non-holiday?"

For Ashton to ask that question, he must have understood the situation in Bella’s family well enough, which didn’t surprise her.

She even thought that since she mistook Ashton for a male prostitute, he had investigated everything about her and her family.

"I don’t know either. I’ll find out after dinner." Bella said.

"Before going, send a message to the assistant." Ashton reminded her. He had left an assistant to help Bella with various things, providing protection and care.

"I told Aunt Cyan, and after dinner, she’ll pick me up to spend the night at the Hughes Family’s place." Bella explained.

Ashton smiled: "Hmm, you have a great relationship with Aunt Cyan. The first person you think of is her. That’s good."

"Yes, Aunt Cyan cares a lot about me and she’s about to make me her goddaughter soon." Bella blurted out.

"So you really enjoy being my sister’s goddaughter and future..." Ashton paused for a few seconds: "Niece?"

"Uncle, it’s getting late. Should I leave now, or is there anything else?" Bella continued with his line of thought and gave him this title.

Ashton stared expressionlessly at the camera, his features enlarged on the screen, perfectly sculpted like a work of art.

Even with a trace of anger on his face, he remained exceedingly attractive.

"Uncle?" Bella tilted her head and asked again.

Ashton’s lips curved slightly: "You address me as Uncle even before offering tea; that seems a bit inappropriate."

"You called me niece, so if I don’t respond, it would be impolite," Bella replied.

"You’re quite obedient," Ashton commented.

Bella understood that there was some sarcasm in his words, but she still followed through: "Yes, I’ve always been obedient. Otherwise, Aunt Cyan wouldn’t like me so much."

Ashton squinted, looking through the screen at Bella’s seemingly obedient yet inherently stubborn and sharp demeanor.

"I’m hanging up now, I have things to do."

Ashton didn’t continue conversing with Bella and ended the call.

His expression instantly turned cold, and he exuded a strong aura.

Tim Season had been beside Ashton since he started the video call with Bella, wanting to gossip about how the Third Young Master pursued love.

Who knew he’d hear such a back-and-forth filled with sarcasm?

Obviously, Bella seemed a bit angry. Her words seemed innocuous, but every sentence was retaliatory.

A needle hidden in cotton.

"Third Young Master, could it be that because you’re apart... she misses you?" Tim Season, playing the love expert, began to analyze.

"She wouldn’t," Ashton stated confidently.

When Bella misses him, she acts coy; she wouldn’t talk back.

Unless something was bothering her, making her unhappy because of him.

With Bella’s personality, even if she were upset about something else, she’d just act coquettish, not make a fuss — she’s well-behaved. Even in a bad mood, she’d cry, but not retaliate unless she was genuinely uncomfortable inside.

As for the reason, Ashton couldn’t figure it out at this moment.

While Ashton was still thinking about it, a sudden nerve pain shot through his forehead. He frowned and rubbed his temples.

Tim Season quickly stood up to fetch medicine and warm water from another side for Ashton.

"You’ve had this headache for over ten years, and it still hasn’t healed." Tim said with concern.

Ashton took the medicine and washed it down with warm water, rubbing his temples tiredly: "It can’t be cured."

"It’s a side effect from that car accident," Tim said empathetically. "That accident not only gave you headaches but I also remember you lost a portion of your memory."

"Yes," Ashton replied.

That memory seemed rather brief; losing it did not affect him much.

However, at that time, Old Lady Marshall discovered for the first time that Old Master Marshall had a mistress outside for decades, with a child almost the same age as Ashton.

In an instant, for Old Lady Marshall, the loyal and caring facade was shattered, and the seemingly enviable marriage turned out to be a sham.

Realizing divorce wasn’t an option, Old Lady Marshall packed up and left to clear her mind. Ashton, witnessing this, silently packed his things and accompanied her to relax.

The lost memory was of the time spent accompanying Old Lady Marshall to relax.

He remembered only waking up in a hospital after a car accident, missing a part of his memory. It seemed that other than occasional emptiness, there was no other impact.

"Speaking of which, wasn’t your car accident also in Wood County?" Tim suddenly remarked.

But he just mentioned it in passing, and neither he nor Ashton took it seriously.

The accident happened on the highway, and even if it was near Wood County, it was just passing through.

"Better to think about why your little girlfriend is upset?" Tim looked at Ashton.

Ashton stared at his phone, silent.

This was the first time he couldn’t guess what Bella was thinking.

...

Bella packed her things, contacted Cyan Marshall, and let Cyan arrange a car to take her to the Woods Family.

She didn’t even want to sit in the car Ashton arranged for her.

The assistant, watching Bella get into the car arranged by Cyan, called in bewilderment to report this to Ashton, receiving the order to discreetly follow her and await further instructions as Bella took Cyan’s car to the Woods Family.

"Miss Woods, I’ll be waiting at the door for you. If it’s not over by eight, I’ll come in to find you," the driver reported.

"Okay," Bella nodded.

But looking at the Woods Family’s gate, she felt somewhat desolate.

Just returning home required such caution, fearing being taken advantage of by her family.
