Chapter 163: Chapter 163: Public Relationship, It’s Trouble for Him

Bella Woods watched as the car got closer to the Hughes Family’s house, her heart growing heavier.

She never expected Ashton Marshall to be so spur of the moment, taking her directly to the Hughes Family for dinner. Now, she regretted mentioning the dinner at the Hughes Family’s to Ashton.

Obviously, she feared most that Cyan Marshall and the Hughes Family would find out about her relationship with Ashton, yet she had to face it directly.

Bella stole several glances at Ashton, wanting to speak several times but unsure of what to say. frёewebnoѵēl.com

Or rather, what could she say to make Ashton give up on taking her to the Hughes Family to reveal their relationship publicly?

Aunt Cyan cared for her so much, if she knew...

Just the thought of Cyan’s shocked, then astonished gaze made Bella feel as if her heart was being gripped, causing unbearable pain.

Even breathing was somewhat difficult.

All of these subtle expressions did not escape Ashton’s notice; he understood well how terrified she was of their relationship being exposed.

He could also understand why the young girl resisted their relationship becoming known.

The barrier between them was not Oliver Hughes, but Cyan Marshall’s four years of love and care for her, treating her like a treasure when no one else cared.

This affection was particularly precious to Bella.

However, though he understood, faced with Bella’s evasion and resistance, Ashton still felt many grievances and dissatisfaction in his heart.

They weren’t meant to hide forever.

Sooner or later, this relationship would have to be revealed, and nobody could escape it.

The car arrived at the Hughes Family’s house.

Cyan Marshall walked out of the living room with the butler; she wore a casual dress, with her hair up, exuding a gentle and tranquil aura, with a sense of timelessness.

The driver respectfully opened the rear doors on each side.

Bella was very resistant to getting out and facing Cyan, but as the door opened, Cyan saw Bella sitting with Ashton in the car.

Cyan’s expression froze for a moment, and her gaze locked onto Bella.

Bella dared not meet Cyan’s eyes, feeling guilty and unsure how to face her.

But at this point, avoiding was useless, and Ashton had pushed her to this juncture, leaving her no choice.

As she got out of the car, Bella had already thought about how to explain things to Cyan.

She would be honest about her relationship with Ashton.

Afterwards, she intended to draw a clear line with Ashton, never stepping into Ashton or the Hughes Family’s domains again, waiting patiently for the day she could apply to study abroad.

"Ashton, Bella." Cyan called their names softly as she looked at Ashton.

Bella lowered her head, staying by Ashton’s side.

"On the way over, I saw this kid on the side of the road, saying she wanted to come find you for dinner, so I brought her along."

When Ashton said this casually, Bella looked at him in surprise.

She had thought Ashton would directly declare their presence together, as he had mentioned to her earlier, to honestly reveal their relationship.

But with those words, he instantly drew a line, shattering any ambiguity between them with just "brought her along for you."

While Bella was immersed in the surprise of Ashton’s response, she did not notice Cyan letting out a sigh of relief after hearing it.

"Oh, I see." Cyan’s smile returned, gentle as ever. "I was wondering why you both came together. Earlier, at the engagement party, you helped Bella, and now you’re together again. People might think there’s something between you."

"What could there be between us?" Ashton lowered his eyes, looking at Bella with a meaningful gaze.

Bella’s mind was in turmoil; at that moment, she couldn’t bear to meet Ashton’s eyes and quickly walked over to Cyan, keeping her head down, unsure of what to say.

Cyan took Bella’s hand. "Our Bella is a bit reserved, Ashton, you might have frightened her a little."

"Oh, really? A reserved student?" Ashton said with a hint of subtext. "I thought a top student would be very smart, knowing what they want, understanding what they need to do, with boundaries and clear goals."

"But even top students are girls, and they can be shy." Cyan interrupted Ashton’s teasing.

"Bella, let me take you upstairs to change clothes. I see you’ve got quite some paint on your clothes, were you painting today?" Cyan inquired, glancing down at Bella.

Only then did Bella notice the paint on her clothes, nodding. "Yes, today’s coursework involved an assignment, and I’ve been sketching."

"Let me take you upstairs to change."

After Cyan spoke, she turned to Ashton. "Make yourself at home; it’s your sister and brother-in-law’s place, I won’t manage you. If you feel unfamiliar, just come more often, don’t let a year go by visiting only a few times."

Saying this, Cyan truly left Ashton alone and took Bella upstairs.

Before the engagement, Bella had lived with the Hughes Family and had a separate room and her clothes here.

Bella took a shower and changed into a fresh set of clothes. When she came out, Cyan was sitting on the sofa in the room, flipping through a magazine.

Seeing Bella coming out, she merely smiled and invited Bella to sit beside her.

"Dinner will take a while. We haven’t chatted like this in a long time. Come here and talk with me for a bit." Cyan said gently.

Even though the engagement with Oliver Hughes was called off, Cyan continued to define her relationship with Bella as ’mother and daughter.’

Bella couldn’t tell if it was just her illusion, or for other reasons, but she felt that Cyan emphasized this mother-daughter transition a lot.

However, Bella didn’t dwell on it, thinking her nature was just sensitive and tried to strengthen her indifference.

Obediently, she went over to sit next to Cyan.

"Aunt Cyan, I was just about to message you, planning to come over for dinner more often." Bella explained.

She had initially used visiting the Hughes Family for dinner as an excuse to avoid Ashton, not expecting him to really bring her here.

But from Ashton’s explanation in front of Cyan, Bella realized he was teasing her on the way, claiming he would reveal their relationship.

He had no intention of making it public because it would be troublesome for him as well.

After all, it was just a clandestine game, and once his interest waned, their relationship would be over. If it went public, it would become a hassle for Ashton.

"It doesn’t matter, Aunt Cyan told you, this is your home. Come back whenever you want to eat. No need for any special notice." Cyan said accommodatingly.

"But today, I do have a favor to ask of Aunt Cyan." Bella pondered before bringing it up. "I’d like to study abroad."

"I’m aware of that, you’ve mentioned it to me before." Cyan inquired. "Have you encountered any obstacles?"

"Yes, going abroad is quite challenging. I’m limited in capability and worried about unexpected issues, so I hope Aunt Cyan can help me arrange to study abroad."
