Dual Cultivation God Returns-Chapter 839: The beginning...
Chapter 839: The beginning…
Of course, they still had to make it out of the valley, as the Profound Grade beast was in the depths of it, but the way out was even more smooth as they simply managed to collect more Demonic Soul Catalyst Crystals.
“You have really improved, Fairy Cai Yin”, Wu Long nodded with a smile, very satisfied with her rate of growth.
“I-it’s all thanks to Daoist Wu a-and the ladies of your Dao Family”, Cai Yin spoke with a bright red flashing on her cheeks, her eyes turning downward at her feet.
“Don’t forget your effort”, he chuckled, “Even the best methods and resource will not make someone unwilling to put in effort into an expert”
Gong Liwei and Hong Yue both saw that look on Cai Yin’s face, silently acknowledging it without commenting or really trying to show they understood what it meant. Their gazes, however, intersected the next moment as they turned away, seeing the other also had observed the same exact signs in Cai Yin.
There was a very brief, slightly awkward moment as they both saw something similar in each other’s eyes, the same kind of subtle emotion.
A kind of acknowledgment and understanding of what exactly they saw, and a tinge of something else mixed into it.
For Gong Liwei it was marked by more surprise than anything.
She was aware of her own feelings by now, having even gone as far as talking openly with her little sister about it. So even if she caught herself making the look she realized she was making when their eyes met, it did not shock her.
Hong Yue, however, in the eyes of Gong Liwei, was someone who she thought she would never be able to share a similar emotion or thought with.
Someone from the world so distant and different from her own, there was no point of contact, and no possibility of it ever existing. Not to mention, the older twin assassin gave off a cold, callous impression.
But there it was, in those red eyes, something Gong Liwei could recognize, something familiar, something they shared.
As for Hong Yue, this moment was confusing and disorienting. freeωebnovēl.c૦m
Her own opinion of Gong Liwei was not much different in the sense of points of intersection between them.
She also thought they would never be caught having the same exact expression. But contrary to that belief, she saw in those green eyes a reflection of her own face, and knew it was the same that this noble lady was making.
A look in the eyes, she did not even realize she had.
However, the moment passed.
For Gong Liwei it was just a curious moment when she realized there was more emotionally to Hong Yue than was visible, not really that consequential as there was nothing new about herself she learned, just an interesting observation.
For Hong Yue, however, it was a beginning of a spiral of a certain realization, though it was just a very shallow start for now as she tucked that brand new slightly uncomfortable feeling deep inside and shook it off from her current mindset.
After they got out of the valley of mist, going through the night and into the start of the second day, they only met minor obstacles and correspondingly, only minor lucky chances.
Though they measured time of day purely by Wu Long’s and Hong Yue’s inner time awareness, since the sun was always in the same position above, stuck in the perpetual midday so it was hard to tell the passage of time.
Most of their time was spent collecting various Alchemy Ingredients, Gong Liwei helping Wu Long with collecting some of them if there were multiple as each one had to be handled with care.
There were also a few times Wu Long spotted a rare ore or type of stone used in Forging Dao, collecting as much as was possible without making big delays in their exploration. Most of those were also valuable but not ultimately that unobtainable or of particular interest to Wu Long.
At one point during the second day, though, as they were passing through a rocky terrain with large hills, the ground they flew over started trembling and a large Demonic Beast which surprisingly looked not as grotesque due to being covered in rock-like looking armor, burst out of the ground with a loud roar, propelling itself upward toward them.
Wu Long’s eyes flashed with interest, even though he previously ignored the presence of this 9th-tier Mortal Grade beast, as from the tunnel it dug, he felt a distant aura of a natural mineral treasure.
He rushed to meet the beast, inwardly amused at the stupidity of an underground beast challenging him in mid-air.
At the same time, he sensed something interesting in the beast’s rock-like armor, deciding on a certain approach.
It had four large, powerful arms, two of which ended in human hand-like claws and two in pickaxe-like blades, while the lower body was basically that of a serpent, with it’s head bearing lizard-like features if viewed together with the rock armor.
Wu Long’s Shadow Crescent appeared in his hands, swirling above his head as Sublime Spear Qi started gathering around the blade’s edge.
And without using any specific techniques, he made four slashes, parrying the four limbs, the Sublime Spear Qi flowed in weaving trajectories as the blade contacted each limb, as if crawling up from the points of contact, and cleaving off parts of the armor on the most fortified parts of the arms.
This also caused all four limbs to open up, which allowed him to kick the creature to its jaw and send it back to the ground with his foot.
It crashed with a loud thunderous noise, raising clouds of dust and sending debris flying everywhere.
Wu Long’s eyes instantly narrowed as they followed the creature closely.
He sensed Earth Qi flowing out of the beast’s core and spreading through it’s body’s meridians beginning to amass around the lost parts of the armor, its four arms digging into the rocky terrain as it hastily burrowed underground.
It did not flee, however, simply winding up for another rush upward.
What interested Wu Long, however, was that the crushed rocks it went through began to stick to the parts of the armor the creature lost, pulled by the Earth Qi and crushed together to start forming a layer of hardened armor again.
‘Interesting…’, Wu Long’s mind stirred as his eyes flashed with profound patterns, not losing sight of the creature even for a second as it burrowed deep underground in a large arc to start then climbing for another attempt.
His own Earth Rune began pulsating, resonating with the thoughts that filled his mind, as he comprehended the process through which the creature made its armor, analyzing it in detail.
The three beauties watched with surprise as he sent the creature flying many times, each time dealing damage only to various parts of its armor, spending unusually long time on a creature he was clearly superior to.
At one point, he started damaging its primary claws and pickaxe-like blades, which caused the creature to spend longer time down in the ground before surfacing for another attack.
At the same time, they understood why this terrain was so filled with what looked like crushed rocks, as this creature practically swam through it.
Wu Long, however, continued with this until his eyes flashed with profound light, and for the first time, he rushed to the ground right after kicking the beast to it, smashing his hand into the rocks as he sensed a new Earth Rune within.
Small and large rocks began rising into the air around him as he started slowly floating back up, and seemingly following the movement of his hand that rose up, started collecting into a rod-like large mass at his side, pointing to the ground.
Gradually the tip that faced the ground began deforming, crushed, and then as if becoming clay, merging and hardening again, just like it happened for the creature.
Soon, a slightly uneven, with natural rock-like surface, blade resembling the one that the creature had at the ends of its one set of arms, but larger, and somehow giving off an even more dense and hardened, heavy feeling, formed as the creature surfaced for another attempt at attacking.
The creature met a swift end right after, as the blade burrowed into its head and cut deep inside it, almost skewering it, along with sending it back to the ground with the last, loud crash.
