Drift Of The Multiverse: [Marvel] [Resident Evil] [DC] [Bleach] [DB]-Chapter 213: Rainy Night
Chapter 213 - 213: Rainy Night
"Blood Orchid?"
Diana didn't know what the Blood Orchid was, nor what it was used for. But seeing that Ethan had deliberately brought it back, she figured it must be relatively rare or have some special effect, even though on the surface it looked like an ordinary flower.
"Yes, a magical plant that can grant 'eternal youth.'"
"Oh!"
The Blood Orchid is a plant from the world of Anaconda. Its exact role was never clearly explained, but based on some information, it is inferred that this plant can prolong lifespan and allow certain creatures to break through their natural limits, maintaining a continuous growth state.
In that world, the pythons living near the Blood Orchid had all grown into terrifying giant snakes after feeding on the plant. The enhancement wasn't overly exaggerated, but the main effect was indeed on lifespan. However, this was not something Ethan urgently needed, so the results of this trip left him rather dissatisfied.
"You just said you were going to run a test?"
"Yes, to test some details of my teleportation magic circle."
He had suspected more than once that his teleportation magic circle was not entirely random. Every time he used it, he felt that the destination always seemed to provide something useful to him. Once or twice could be explained by sheer luck, but when it happened repeatedly, he had to suspect that the magic circle's target selection was being influenced by his own subconscious.
Perhaps it was something within his subconscious that guided the magic circle to automatically filter the destination.
Of course, these teleportations were still more random compared to the worlds where he had left space-time anchor points. His test just now confirmed this suspicion.
When he activated the magic circle earlier, he had specifically been thinking about the Resident Evil world because he needed various viruses from there, many of which could strengthen or even evolve the human body. But instead of that world, he was sent to the world of Anaconda.
"In other words, this magic circle can somewhat select the desired type of world, but without a space-time anchor, it can only vaguely filter choices. If I want something to strengthen myself, it just picks a few matching worlds and throws me into one of them."
Ethan felt this explanation made sense. Looking back at his previous travels, the pattern was consistent. Each time, he was sent to a place that matched his needs to some degree, though not perfectly.
"Thinking about it this way, my luck might not be as good as I thought."
Since he was never sent to the exact world he wanted, it meant he hadn't drawn the best outcome each time. Ethan had always felt that his luck stat was off the charts, but now it seemed to be within the normal range.
"Are you planning to rest now?"
Diana didn't ask what Ethan had tested or what his results were. She knew that Ethan would tell her if he wanted to, and if not, it wasn't her place to press.
"No, I'm going to the next world."
Diana frowned. She felt Ethan was pushing himself too hard. "I remember you can't use this teleportation magic continuously, right?"
"Thanks to the Cosmic Cube."
Ethan had spent a lot of effort acquiring the Cosmic Cube. Not only had he handed it to Tony, but he had also taken the time to study it himself, and his gains were no less than Tony's.
Compared to the past, he now had a much deeper understanding of spatial energy. This was why he could cast Mirror Dimension spells so easily that even Loki could not detect them. At the same time, with a high-level item like the Cosmic Cube to help him understand energy operation, he had finally resolved the cooldown problem of his teleportation magic circle.
Now, he didn't have to worry about the awkward situation of being stuck in a cooldown when he needed to travel between worlds. Additionally, the energy consumption for each teleportation had been greatly reduced.
"Won't that put extra strain on your body?"
Ethan shook his head. "It should be fine. I can probably handle one more teleportation. If I still don't gain anything, I'll stop."
Nodding toward Diana, signaling her to keep supporting him for a little longer, Ethan activated the magic circle once again. As the blue light flashed, the scene before his eyes shifted from the captain's room of the Goddess of Dawn to the alleys of an unfamiliar city.
"Shit."
What Ethan hadn't expected was that the moment he arrived, he was drenched by the heavy rain pouring down around him. The freezing rain reminded him that the temperature here was quite low, and he needed to put on warmer clothes.
"Where did I end up this time?"
Ethan isolated a Mirror Dimension space so he could change into dry clothes undisturbed. He chose a leather jacket suitable for the rain. After stepping out of the Mirror Dimension, he walked to the entrance of the alley and looked out onto the street, observing that the pedestrians were all wearing modern clothing. With that, he confidently stepped into the crowd.
Blending in with the people on the unfamiliar streets, Ethan kept observing his surroundings. He could tell that this was a time period he was familiar with, though he wasn't yet sure of the exact year.
Judging from the pedestrians' clothing and some everyday items, it should be somewhere around the early 2000s.
"Europe?"
After walking through the streets for a while, he began to form a clearer judgment. The architectural style didn't resemble North America. There were many historical buildings, and the people were predominantly Caucasian. It was very likely a European city.
He didn't have to guess for long. Soon, he confirmed his location and time from a discarded newspaper in a trash can by the road.
"Budapest?"
He felt lucky that he had watched many movies in his previous life. Combined with his extraordinary memory as a mage, as soon as he connected Budapest with the continuous cold rain, one particular film came to mind.
"It's on my target list."
Especially for that reason, Ethan was almost certain where he was and what his objective should be.
The Legend of the Dark Night...
Underworld is a movie about vampires and werewolves. However, its setting wasn't ancient times or pure modern fantasy, but a more grounded modern era. In this world, the origin of vampires and werewolves was not tied to magic or curses, but to mutations caused by a special bloodline infected by a virus.
The entire Underworld story is set against this backdrop, following the heroine Selene as she battles werewolves, fights against her own vampire clan, and ultimately kills her adoptive father.
The plot itself wasn't particularly unique. What stood out to Ethan was the special blood of the male lead, Michael Corvin.
The awkward part was, Ethan had no idea how to find him.
"The opening scene takes place in a subway station. But in a city like this, who knows which subway station it is..."
Ethan pondered how to locate Michael Corvin within such a large city and obtain the special blood he needed. Should he try searching nearby hospitals? After all, the protagonist was a doctor.
Just then, he noticed a woman in a black leather trench coat ahead of him, letting the cold rain soak her without even attempting to shield herself, striding steadily through the crowd.
"Seems like every time, I still end up not far from my objective. I guess that's one benefit of this magic circle."
Ethan recognized the woman immediately. She was Selene, the heroine of the film.
In the world of Underworld, Selene was simply a vampire with excellent combat abilities, a member of the Death Dealers, the vampire clan's fighting force. However, on the internet back in Ethan's previous life, Selene's status was quite extraordinary.
If Selene's husband were to appear in this universe at the same time, Ethan doubted the universe could even handle them both.
In his past life, Ethan had often read web novels, and almost every author who wrote about plane travelers included this world. In most of those stories, eight out of ten protagonists would end up making Selene their wife.
The appeal of this Death Dealer was clearly significant. Ethan, curious about the hype, had watched the movie series himself and eventually had to admit there was a reason for Selene's popularity.
But he didn't have time to concern himself with Selene or any overpowered husbands who might form a legion. His target now was Michael Corvin, the hero of the first two films. So he didn't rashly approach Selene. Instead, he quietly followed her as she walked into a subway station.
"Looks like the story is just beginning."
Since he hadn't seen any sign of Michael Corvin yet, Ethan had assumed he might have missed the early part of the plot and had considered heading to a nearby hospital to search.
But now, it seemed he could save himself that trouble. The subway scene hadn't started yet, and he had the chance to intercept the protagonist directly.
Once he found Michael, Ethan didn't care about the rest of the plot. Whether it was werewolves or vampires, if they dared to get in his way, he would kill them all.
As a pure human, Ethan naturally despised these races that treated humans as food. He felt no hesitation or guilt about killing them.
If he had enough time and got bored, he wouldn't mind helping the city by thoroughly sterilizing and cleaning out all the creatures lurking in the darkness.
"Maybe that's also a good way to draw out the ancestor of the werewolves and vampires, Alexander Corvinus."
(To be continued.)
