Drawing Cards in the Middle Ages to Rise in Ranks-Chapter 367 - 6: The Wolf Race’s Past
In the misty bathroom, the vaguely visible contours made it hard to look away.
Jeanne shyly covered herself, "Shh—keep it down, this isn’t a thank you gift for you!"
"What kind of gratitude is this?"
Losa lowered his voice, "I consider you a brother, a dear friend, and you use this to test me?"
What normal man could withstand such a test?
"If you don’t want to, I’ll leave right now."
"Hey, don’t."
Jeanne glanced down, softly huffed, "Your mouth says no, but your body is quite honest!
Don’t cover it up, it’s not like I haven’t seen it before; it’s impressive in size, but I wonder how useful it is."
"You’ll find out soon enough."
Losa boldly stood up, water droplets cascading down his chiseled body.
"Don’t move, don’t make a sound."
He reached out to cover Jeanne’s mouth.
"You really dare?"
"With you like this, how can you expect me to do nothing?"
At this moment, a trace of regret surfaced in Jeanne’s heart, she subconsciously took a step back, "I actually just wanted to help you wash up, don’t get the wrong idea."
Losa pulled her into his arms, his hands restlessly exploring up and down.
"At this point, you’re still planning to back out?"
"I..."
"This thing of yours is so hot."
"Hiss—be gentle!"
"Mmm—"
Suppressive gasps echoed in the bathroom.
...
The night was falling, the stars dazzlingly bright.
Losa lay on the rooftop, his hands behind his head, lost in thought.
Today was a fine day.
The starry sky was quite a beautiful scene.
But his mind was not on this.
Although he and Jeanne had shared a bath afterwards, he still worried that Prajna might notice something.
Compared to Furinjira, Prajna was much harder to fool.
What would happen if she found out?
Though it wouldn’t be like Cheng-ge who was stabbed and dismembered, Losa still felt a bit uneasy.
He heard soft footsteps behind him.
Losa sat up, patted the empty spot beside him and said, "You’re here, sit down."
"Thanks to you today."
Chelina sat down beside Losa, a bit reserved, her furry ears twitching, "This is my duty as the chief assassin under my lord, there is no need to thank me."
Losa got straight to the point, asking, "Chelina, do you know about the werewolf civil war?"
Chelina was silent for a moment, then whispered, "My lord, why are you suddenly interested in this?"
"Is it inconvenient to talk about?"
"It’s not exactly inconvenient, I just don’t know where to start."
Chelina pondered for a moment, seemingly choosing her words carefully.
"My lord, you should know that the Two Sicilies, including part of Northern Italy, are under the rule of twelve werewolf clans."
"My father is the clan leader of the Basilicata Family. When I was twelve, he led most of the clan members to migrate to Texas on the New Continent, gathering a large number of stray werewolves and exiled wolves who had violated the law and been expelled from their families."
"This made my father virtually the leader of the werewolves on the New Continent."
Chelina paused slightly, questioning, "Do you know the Yakxi Family?"
Losa nodded, "I’ve heard of them. Back then, Father Urding resigned angrily as Milan’s Archbishop because the Yakxi Family became the secret rulers of Milan and Tuscany, turning into an ascetic monk."
"The Yakxi Family is the strongest among the werewolf clans in the Two Sicilies, and they are the most conservative and aggressive. Conservative in the sense that they adhere strictly to werewolf traditions, acting as guardians of the werewolf code; aggressive in that they have been expanding their influence outward, not only battling with the Blood Royal Court in Albania but also driving out the Church’s influence from Lombardy and Tuscany."
Losa mused, "Was it the Yakxi Family that called for the campaign against your Basilicata Family?"
"That’s right."
"They claim the Basilicata Family has abandoned tradition by accepting those werewolves expelled from their families, becoming a gathering place for all traitors and mixed bloodlines."
"The Yakxi Family is much stronger than our Basilicata Family, and it commands many small families as vassals. The Clan Leader of the Yakxi Family has always been seen as the Common Lord of the Wolf Race. His supporters quickly passed the resolution to unite the remaining eleven families to campaign against the Basilicata Family."
Losa continued, "Ultimately, it threatens their status."
"Looking at it now, I suppose that’s the case."
Chelina paused silently for a moment, "You want to ask what exactly happened in that werewolf civil war; truth be told, I don’t really know. At that time, I was still undergoing the trial in the ’Saluzzo’ Family of Piedmont."
"I missed that battle, and the news of my family’s demise was revealed by an assassin sent by the Yakxi Family while they were hunting me."
Losa suddenly asked, "Chelina, if you had the chance to participate in that battle, what would you do?"
Chelina’s eyes showed a trace of confusion, "I haven’t thought about that."
"Maybe I would have gone to die with my family."
Chelina softly said, "My father underestimated the decisiveness of the Wolf Lord and the strength of the expedition army rallied by Yakxi. Thousands of werewolf soldiers were not something our family could contend with, and I don’t know how to save them."
"Do you want revenge?"
"Revenge?"
Chelina frowned, she actually hadn’t thought much about vengeance.
She received the most traditional education of the Two Sicilies werewolves, once believing that it was indeed her father’s fault for abandoning tradition and committing various rebellious acts.
She is not a vengeful person filled with hatred.
"Do you think your father was wrong?"
"I don’t know."
Chelina shook her head, "Furin often tells me that it’s just the victor’s rule. If my father had won, his rules would replace the old Code and become the principle of all werewolves."
"What do you think?"
"I think there’s nothing different, the elite wolves of the twelve families are still high above, ruling over the lower wolves and the lowest humans."
Chelina said earnestly, "The old order and the so-called new order of my father are merely a change of elite wolves."
"Then why not try to create a new order yourself?"
Chelina said softly, "Master, you know, I’m not skilled at being a leader. I’m more accustomed to following orders."
Click—
She skillfully used her thumb to flick open the metal box, taking out a chocolate bar to put in her mouth, then taking another and handing it to Losa.
Losa bit into the chocolate bar and crunched it, "If there was a chance for you to return to your kin and fight alongside them, would you be willing?"
"I think I would be willing."
Chelina’s voice was somewhat low, "Many of my kin might not be good people, but they treated me well, and I hope to fight alongside them, even if it means facing death together."
"The opportunity is right in front of you."
Losa produced a battle record, which required the user to help the Basilicata Family win the werewolf civil war and become the true leader of the werewolves.
This battle is undoubtedly difficult, although according to Chelina, this expedition army is far from a full mobilization of the Two Sicilies werewolves.
Chelina took the battle record, visibly surprised, "Master, I’ve only been serving you for a short while, is this prestigious promotion really meant for me?"
Losa smiled and said, "It’s what you deserve."
Chelina was silent for a moment, then said softly, "But the expedition army sent by the Yakxi Family is currently absolutely unbeatable for us. Even their least skilled soldiers are pure bloodline werewolves, though quite diluted."
Losa frowned, "In your opinion, how many of my soldiers does it take to match a regular werewolf soldier?"
"If it’s a veteran elite, it might take three, but werewolves don’t have professional armies nor do they emphasize formations. If they really line up, perhaps one hundred veteran elites could match one hundred ordinary werewolf soldiers."
Losa breathed a sigh of relief; if that’s the case, there’s still hope for battle.
If all the Two Sicilies werewolves were comparable to Hans in combat strength, the battle record might essentially be nullified; it couldn’t be fought.
In this view, the wolf bloodline that Hans obtained from the now-extinct family is of a fairly high level, just slightly inferior to Chelina and Furinjira’s royal bloodline.
"How many people are there in this expedition army?"
Chelina thought for a moment before saying, "There should be about three thousand, most of whom are ordinary werewolf soldiers. There are also quite a few special breeds like Hans that can perform Wolf Transformation, with over a hundred elite werewolves."
Losa then asked, "And how many werewolves are there in your Basilicata Family?"
"Over a thousand or so. Originally there were only more than three hundred clan members, but then my father absorbed many wandering werewolves to reach this number. Specifically, how many, I’m not quite sure since I haven’t returned home for a long time."
Losa thought for a moment and indicated, "The battle record can be used three times each time. Using it once for experimentation and gathering intelligence is no big deal, if you want to use it, remember to notify me in advance."
"Okay."
Chelina carefully put away the battle record.
