Drawing Cards in the Middle Ages to Rise in Ranks-Chapter 362 - 51: Mother of Rats
The deep passage seems to be completely embedded in the mountain rock, leading to the heart of the mountain.
Anna approached Losa and asked, "Your friend?"
"I made it up myself."
"You actually made it up?"
Anna was a little disappointed. She had thought that if the plague really got out of control, Losa’s friend might be able to help.
"But you said it like it was the real thing."
"Don’t forget, besides being a Secular Lord, I have another identity."
Anna suddenly realized, "The author of ’Demon Hunter’ and ’Song of Winter and Summer’! No wonder you’re so good at lying... No, you weren’t lying at all, otherwise you couldn’t have fooled that crazy woman. Is that person a character from your novel?"
"Kind of."
After overcoming the initial difficult stage, Losa was too lazy to continue being a copyist because he couldn’t really make any money.
The printing workshop made money mainly from Gwent Cards and mass printing theology books, which stole many copyists and clergy from Jerusalem. Even with elite guards, someone still secretly broke into the printing workshop every now and then, trying to destroy it.
"It’s a dead end ahead."
Chelina, scouting at the front, suddenly turned around and said.
Losa looked towards Prajna, revealing a puzzled expression.
"Behind the wall."
Prajna succinctly stated.
Anna came up to the mountain wall, knocked on it, and frowned: "It’s solid, and I can’t detect the slightest magic aura. Could there be a natural cavern hidden behind this mountain wall?"
Losa reminded, "Don’t forget, she has a lot of rats."
"Oh, those rats must have the ability to dig out a secret room within the mountain, one that can’t be detected by magic or seen by the naked eye. No wonder she’s so confident."
"The question now is, how do we get through this wall?"
The so-called "wall" is actually a not-so-smooth mountain wall, and no one knows how thick it is. Weapons produced by the system are indeed indestructible, but digging a passage through here would be a massive project.
Prajna can sense the direction where the woman’s body is located but cannot find the passages left behind by the rats while digging. Even if found, the rat paths couldn’t possibly allow them to pass through.
"It is indeed a problem."
Anna said somewhat anxiously, "Only if it’s a Wizard who specializes in Earth Magic and can perform Earth Travel Technique, there might be a chance, but Earth-specialized Wizards are already few, where can we find one in a short time?"
Although she has some expertise in Space Magic, even a Space Master can’t teleport to a place they’ve never been to before.
"Uh..."
A small voice came from behind.
The group turned to see.
The disheveled Witch Eve raised her hand somewhat uncomfortably and said, "I can perform Earth Travel Technique; I just haven’t tried it on others."
Anna immediately showed a delighted expression as if she had discovered a treasure: "Why didn’t you say so earlier?"
Eve instinctively avoided everyone’s gaze and came behind Chelina: "I... I’ve called you many times, you didn’t hear me, it’s not my fault."
Furinjira widened her eyes: "So you weren’t talking to yourself before?"
"Yes, yes, yes, it’s not your fault."
Anna quickly approached Eve, filled with expectation, and said, "Eve, I knew hanging out in the library wasn’t for nothing. Quickly, test on me."
"This... is very dangerous."
Eve hesitated slightly.
The danger of Earth Travel Technique ranks only second to Space Magic. If the person performing it is not skillful, it could cause the person to suffocate within the earth and stone.
"Don’t worry, I will leave a set of space coordinates here. In case of danger, I will teleport immediately."
"Okay."
Eve no longer hesitated and began to chant a spell in a low voice, though stumbling through the process. Her palm indeed emitted a dirt-yellow Magic Spiritual Light, indicating that the spell was at least taking form.
Anna extended her arm and pressed against the mountain wall. The wall instantly behaved like a pool of water, allowing her hand to penetrate through it.
She turned back and gave Losa a deep look: "Losa, I leave everything outside to you. If there’s no issue inside, I’ll come back to inform you."
"Don’t worry."
Furinjira muttered quietly: "What space coordinates, I sense no space magic aura." 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺
Losa had previously suffered from space magic issues, and later, he, Prajna, and Furin all crammed knowledge about space magic, so they were very sensitive to its aura.
Losa glanced at Furin and shook his head slightly.
Setting up a space coordinate in a short time is nowhere near simple, and due to tight timing, what Anna said was merely to comfort Eve.
Whether Eve realized it or not, Losa was unclear.
The wait was agonizing.
Losa paced back and forth for a long time. Only then did ripples reappear on the mountain wall, and Anna staggered out, directly falling into Prajna’s arms.
"Cough... thank you."
Anna coughed violently at the ground, spitting out a mouthful of dirt-laced saliva, and gave Eve a thumbs-up: "Eve, you did well. I successfully entered the mountain’s heart. It’s full of dormant rats, the Source of the Plague is definitely in there."
Losa spoke up: "Then next, we should all go in."
Anna looked at Eve: "Can you do it?"
"I think so..."
Eve’s tone naturally didn’t inspire much confidence.
Losa glanced at everyone and said without hesitation: "Miss Eve, please perform the Earth Travel Technique for us."
"Okay... alright."
The dirt-yellow spiritual light enveloped Losa. He could feel the hard stone wall around him turning into something resembling quicksand, an earthy yellow sensation, and there was a feeling beneath his feet as if he might sink in at any moment.
Anna reminded, "Everyone come one by one. Eve, hold onto my hand, I’ll lead the way. Remember, if the direction is wrong, close your eyes and go straight forward, be sure to get out of the stone before the Earth Travel Technique fails."
Losa tightly gripped Prajna’s hand as he looked into her eyes and saw a hint of worry in her expression. He softly reassured, "Don’t worry, nothing will happen."
This entered the mountain wall.
Losa then realized how much risk Anna had taken earlier. In here, it’s impossible to discern up from down, left from right, even the vertical pull of gravity has completely vanished, leaving the world in chaos.
Though breathing freely, the intense sense of suffocation makes one’s heart feel oppressed.
Losa clutched Prajna’s hand tightly, following the forward pulling force at the end of the line, moving forward slowly.
The suction-like feeling when stepping into the mud from below made each step feel incredibly heavy.
It’s unknown how long it lasted, maybe five minutes, or possibly longer.
In here, even time has become blurred.
A strong force suddenly came from holding Prajna’s hand, causing Losa to stumble out of the mountain wall.
He exhaled lightly and for the first time found the scent of this odor-riddled cave filled with rat swarms as undeniably sweet.
This was a vast cavity within the mountain, covered in what looked like a carpet made of rats, teeming everywhere with rat packs filled with sores.
They remained asleep, seemingly in a dormant state.
Even though the group’s movements weren’t subtle, these rats didn’t suddenly attack.
"Look over there."
Anna suddenly pointed.
They saw the direction she pointed, beneath a cliff within the mountain cavity.
There, a mysterious figure stood, unexpectedly a graceful woman.
