Chapter 679: 281

The night market was brightly lit, bustling with people.

Nearby was a university town, so most of the visitors to the night market were college students. Some were groups of girls chatting together, while others were young couples with their fingers interlocked. Not even the cold winter night could dampen their enthusiasm.

"So lively." Feng Cheng looked around with uncontainable curiosity.

"Watch where you’re going." Rong Xianning pulled him aside, saving Feng Cheng from bumping into a guy coming from the opposite direction.

Feng Cheng instinctively touched the wig on his head. Wearing it was uncomfortable—it was stifling and heavy.

But just for the sake of going out to have fun, he was willing to make a small sacrifice.

He was wearing a long, straight black wig. With his delicate features, small head, and petite face, the wig plus his gender-neutral outfit made him blend seamlessly into the crowded center of the marketplace. No one would recognize him.

He turned to glance at Rong Xianning and couldn’t help but let out a "pfft" of laughter again.

Rong Xianning had on dyed yellow hair, his skin painted with dark powder, thick eyebrows, and even a black mole drawn at the corner of his mouth. Even his most die-hard fans wouldn’t be able to recognize him.

Feng Cheng had helped him with this outrageous disguise. Initially, Rong Xianning had resisted, but in the end, to move about quietly, he reluctantly agreed.

Rong Xianning, however, adapted quickly to his new look. Moving naturally and confidently through the crowd, Feng Cheng couldn’t help but admire him. What a waste for him to be an idol—he should’ve tried acting instead.

Xiao Hu, as Rong Xianning’s personal bodyguard, naturally stayed close. He had also done some light disguising. His usually reserved appearance now looked more youthful, borrowing Rong Xianning’s casual clothes to transform into a spirited college boy.

"Wow, it smells amazing." Feng Cheng ran toward a small stall crowded with people. It seemed very popular.

"What are they selling? Smells so good, smells incredible..."

The enticing aroma stirred up the gluttonous cravings inside Feng Cheng’s belly.

Rong Xianning stared at the old, worn signboard and suddenly froze in place.

Feng Cheng wormed his way into the crowd, rubbing his hands together, his eyes gleaming with excitement.

"Boss, I want one order of fried rice cake—no, make that three orders."

He intentionally spoke in a falsetto voice.

No other choice. Their group was too popular. Even though his individual fame wasn’t exactly stellar, Rong Xianning’s fans pretty much all knew who he was. Just to be safe, Feng Cheng decided to be cautious. He didn’t want their rare night out to end prematurely.

The stall owner was focused on his work, not even bothering to look up as he asked, "What flavor do you want?" With that, he gestured toward the small signboard on the side.

"Matcha, coconut, seaweed, one of each."

Aning wasn’t much of a fan of sweet things, so he decided to order seaweed flavor for him. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞

Feng Cheng also ordered fried chicken fish cakes and asked for sweet and spicy sauce. At another stall selling extra-large takoyaki, Feng Cheng was drawn again by the novelty; he had grown up in the south and hadn’t seen these snacks before. He wanted to try everything.

The company strictly controlled their diet—junk food was categorically banned. Feng Cheng had been suppressing his cravings for ages. With no company personnel tailing them tonight, he was ready to indulge himself.

After paying, Feng Cheng queued up at the side, pulling Rong Xianning closer to him. "What’s got you so spaced out?"

Rong Xianning was staring at the man busy at the stall, a hazy nostalgia reflecting in his gaze.

Finally, it was Feng Cheng’s turn. Grinning cheekily, he received a bag of snacks from the boss, his sweet tone bubbling, "Thank you, uncle."

The uncle took out two cups of hot fruit tea from a thermal box. "These are on the house."

With his hands full, Feng Cheng watched as the boss handed the fruit tea over to Rong Xianning instead.

Rong Xianning reached out and took them.

The boss couldn’t help but glance at him a few more times.

"Have we met somewhere before?"

Holy crap!

Feng Cheng was sweating bullets inside. Aning was way too famous—he had disguised himself this much, yet even a fifty-something-year-old street food vendor could recognize him.

Feng Cheng grinned awkwardly and replied, "Uncle, you must’ve got the wrong person. My brother is so average-looking, there’s no way he resembles a celebrity."

With that, he grabbed Rong Xianning’s hand and turned to leave.

The boss scratched his head, confused. "I didn’t say he looked like a celebrity though."

Feng Cheng’s heart was pounding. He was terrified that one of Rong Xianning’s fans might pop up. That airport incident? He never wanted to relive that nightmare.

He stormed ahead, paying no attention to where he was going, and ended up crashing into someone.

Feng Cheng looked down immediately to apologize, "Sorry..."

But the snack bag in his hands accidentally fell to the floor. He crouched hurriedly to pick it up.

The person opposite crouched down as well, helping him gather his things.

In his flustered haste, Feng Cheng lifted his gaze—and it was game over. He froze on the spot like he’d been struck by lightning.

What an absolutely stunning young lady.

"Your snacks are dirty now. How about I compensate you?"

Even her voice was soft and beautiful.

Snapping back to reality, Feng Cheng quickly waved his hands in protest. "No, no, it’s not your fault. It’s my own carelessness..."

Shen You’an paid no mind to Qi Baotan squatting on the ground helping gather the fallen snacks. Her eyes were trained on the boy standing opposite.

In the distance, the lights glittered brightly. The night market seemed alive and bustling, filled with the noisy chatter of people.

The boy stood amidst the earthly clamor, his gaze as tranquil and mesmerizing as stars scattered across the heavens, quietly fixed on her.
