Chapter 48: Skyler— A New Student?

"Professor Arnol, this isn’t the time for a practical joke like that." Professor Misha snapped, "You can’t just walk in and say something like that. He needs to go through the proper procedures and evaluations before joining the academy."

"Relax, Professor Misha. I wouldn’t bring just anyone. He’s already earned his adventurer’s license, he’s a stage-five mage, and, most importantly, he was sent by the Queen of Rosevill herself." He chuckled softly as though amused by the entire situation.

"What!" she blinked her eyes in surprise, and she was stunned for a moment.

"Just let him in the class. I’ll take care of the paperwork." Arnol waved a dismissive hand before turning to the young man beside him. "Skyler, meet me after the session. We need to continue our discussion."

"Hold on." Professor Misha interjected, "I’ll let him partake in the ’Honoured Ones’ if he can pass my personal test."

’Seriously?’ Skyler internally groaned, ’I hate being tested. I don’t want to show what I’m capable of. But avoiding it, seems impossible.’

He didn’t have much of a choice. If he wanted to be accepted and participate in the tournament, he had to go through with it anyway.

"What kind of test?" Skyler asked, his impression turning bewildered.

"Nothing much." Professor Misha replied, chuckling with a sly grin, "Just withstand a single attack from me. If you can handle it, I’ll allow you to take my lessons."

Skyler exhaled slowly, nodding to her proposal. His defense was stronger than before, and he was confident he could handle whatever she threw at him.

The real problem, however, was the attention he was drawing. It was problematic for him.

The ’Mystic Scholar’ class who were training on their own, saw them taking position. They were slightly far from the Honoured Ones, but could clearly see them.

Some of them even murmured, ’Is that a new student? Never seen him before.’ Their face clearly stated that they were interested in him. Though they had no idea who the person was, and appeared to be a student. Their attention was inevitable though.

Meanwhile, Skyler sighed, standing before Misha at a distance. He didn’t knew what kind of grace she wielded. Preventing her attack would be tough. But saying no, wasn’t an option anymore. He had to do it.

Skyler ignored them and stepped forward. "Alright. Let’s get this over with."

"Don’t Worry, Skyler." Professor Misha stated before starting, "I won’t use my superior flames which will burn you. I’ll use just a normal flicker of my fire."

’For real? She’s a fire wielder?’ Skyler thought, chuckling at her. Then he said, "If it’s fire, I won’t worry. Hit me what you’ve got. Just don’t harbour any hostility towards me."

Seeing his confident, she smiled softly. Her demeanour was calm and charismatic. Even though she stood with an attack stance, she radiated an elegant brilliance.

"I’m a proud Professor of this prestigious academy." She replied, a scarlet magic circle forming before her, "I don’t harbour any ill intentions towards any of my students, and that same goes for you too."

"I see." Skyler prepared, waving his rob majestically, "Then forgive me for my rudeness. Now attack."

Professor Misha took a deep breath, so calm and so collective as though her body and soul merged with the environment. Collecting mana around her body, she ignited the circle with flames as it was overloaded with her mana.

"Scarlet Embrace!" She nearly whispered, her soft lips barely moved. Her eyes were curious to see what he could do.

A massive surge of fire roared toward Skyler, burning bright and wild. The onlookers gasped.

’She calls it a flicker.’ He thought, observing the intensity of the scorches, ’She can decimate an entire group of bandits with it.’ He chuckled softly.

As soon as the flames closed in, he outstretched his hands, the soft chuckled still lingering on his lips as he whispered, "Disintegrate!"

Within a split second the flames dissolved into shimmering mana particles, floating around him like fireflies. He stood there, completely unharmed. Those shiny mana particles made his presence almost ethereal— almost divine to look at.

Seeing how the intense flame that roared towards him, was dismantled within in an instant, everyone, even Arnol, was shocked. To their eyes, he didn’t flinched nor did he attack, yet he easily reduced the fire to nothingness.

Silence fell over the courtyard, the shocking looks replaced astonishment.

Professor Misha, rather than being shocked, seemed... impressed. She had expected strength, but this? This was something else entirely. The ability to erase an elemental attack so effortlessly was unheard of.

The mana particles still floating around him, only added attractiveness to his effortless charm, snatching the entire attention of the ’Mystic Scholar’ class. Few of the girls even fell for him, their face flustered.

"Scavenge!" he whispered again.

The particles reformed into raw mana which filled his MP bar on the system screen.

[Notice: Max MP limit has been exceeded. Additional MP has been burned]

A disappointment raised in his eyes. ’Tsk! If only it were possible for me to preserve the excess MP, it would be useful for later.’

But he didn’t have that kind of skills or abilities. Pushing the thought aside, he turned to Misha, whose cheeks were slightly flushed.

She couldn’t take her eyes off of him. The more she looked at him, the more he seemed attractive to her.

’What’s this feeling?’ She thought surprisingly, ’Why’s my heart racing so fast? I don’t understand.’

"So, do I pass?" Skyler said, expressing a gentle gesture, "Was that enough or do you want to test another attack?"

Misha got her sense back. She broke out of her daydreaming. Though her cheeks were still red.

"Ahem!" she cleared her throat, "Congrats! You’ve passed the test. From today onwards, consider yourself as a proud member of the Honoured Ones." She smiled adorably.

"Does that mean Skyler s going to be part of our class?" Charlotte said delightedly, "Hoorah!" others seemed to be happy too.

"Don’t get overjoyed, brat!" Misha clinched against her teeth, "You’ll still get your punishment for deceiving me."

The students paled. They knew what kind of punishment awaited them when Professor Misha Grand was angry. And they weren’t looking forward to it.

Deceiving the academic professors could cost high— specially Professor Misha Grand. She was popular among the academic students for a reason. And they knew it.

Arnol was still bewildered. As a professor who loved to create new theory based on mana and magic, Skyler performance was new to him.

"Skyler," he said, "I’ve never seen it before. How did you do that?"

"Training." Skyler replied, "I’ve been training for so long, I forgot when I actually ended having that skill."

"I see." Arnol thought deeply, "If you don’t mind, can you elaborate me the process?"

’I already lied about it.’ He thought, hesitating to look at Arnol’s curious eyes, ’What should I tell him. I can’t possibly inform him about my systems. Oh I know.’

"It’s actually quite simpler than it looks." He said, gesturing a simple impression, "We use mana to materialize elemental attacks, right? My technique is just the reverse. I deconstruct the attack back into pure mana. Though, the amount I recover is always less than the original spell’s cost."

"Mana Alteration? That’s Brilliant!" Arnol overjoyed, "I’ve studied theories on it before, but I never imagined I’d see it in action. Thanks for giving me such opportunity to witnessed that."

’Seems like he already knew about the stuff.’ He thought, ’I better be careful around him. Who knows when my cover will be blown by him.’

"Professor Arnol!" Misha yelled, "Now if you’ll excuse us, we’d like to go back to our lessons."

"Ah.. Yes yes, please do. I’ll be on my way." He waved his hands and began walking.

Maya and the others seemed thrilled to have Skyler as a student. But they didn’t knew Skyler was actually quite older to be fit as a student. Though his newly acquired body— the body Azrathos prepared for him, seemed the same age as they were.

He didn’t fit odd as a student, rather he completely befitted in their class.

Skyler’s admission into the Honoured Ones had been anything but ordinary, but at least it was over. Now, all he had to do was survive whatever came next.

While the others were busy admiring his techniques, a suspicion gaze fall on him. It was the extra girl whom Skyler didn’t meet before.

She didn’t care the while situation, just stared at him. And went back to her training again.

Her name was Frey Arthur, a prodigy student, who despite being a mere stage-1 mage, earned the rights to fit into the Honoured Ones.

Her strength was unparalleled, and she wielded only Light Grace.

"Rumour has it, that she’s planning on participating into the tournaments." Leon informed, while describing her to Skyler, "Though I’m quite sure she’s not even capable to defeat any of the Mystic Scholars."

However, Skyler looked concerned. He could clearly see the determinant aura around her. It told him just how many adversaries she had countered to be there. Rather than harbouring in ill intentions, he respected that.

"But I’ll be the one to be victorious." Skyler mused, nearly telling himself that.
