DRAGONBORN SORCERER-Chapter 39: The Destruction
Fredric’s eyes looked furious, yet the smile on his face still radiated like an eternal light— an everlasting warmth that could console any adversaries.
Within a blink of an eye, his injuries healed away. His ear looked normal as though it wasn’t severed to begin with.
Seeing Vitra’s bold more, he couldn’t help himself but wonder who she was. Her attire was something he had never seen before. But he could tell that the aura she possessed, was no ordinary.
"My dead child." Out of curiosity, he asked her, "I’ve never seen you around before. Are you his partner in crime or just another soul deceived by this foolish human?"
The more Vitra tried to remain calm, the more Fredric provoked her sentiment. Her menacing eyes became more frightful as though at any moment she would have chewed him up or cut into pieces by her claws.
"It seems, you have no brain to comprehend the situation, you good for nothing human." Vitra muttered, suppressing her murderous intent, "I thought you’d be intelligent for a high priest. But your lustful mind has lost the ability to understand the consequences of defying my orders."
"Hmm~" Fredric smiled in amusement as if her words were obviously funny. "I don’t know who you are. But I do know that you are the enemies of the goddess, and thus you shall be perish from this world."
Few magic circles appeared as Fredric stretched his arms in a divine stance. His attire glowed. And the mana flowed in those circles, forming a powerful water spell, highly condensed and sharper than any spear.
"May your sins remind you the wrath of the divinity. HYDRO-SPEAR!!"
The attack unleased from those circles flew with in sonic speed, piercing through the air. Only Skyler and Vitra were their aim.
As soon as they closed in, just before touching the two of them, they hit an invisible barrier, and the highly condense water splashed out like a devastating flood. It was Rose who deployed her Divine Shield to protect them.
Seeing her unwanted interruption, Fredric spoke in irritation, "Rose! You shall not be intervening while I punish the hindrances. You don’t want to disappoint the goddess, do you?"
"Certainly not." She replied, her tone now filled with overwhelming confidence, "Which is why I’ve decided to shield Lord Skyler and Lady Vitra."
’Vitra..?’ Fredric’s mind lost in thought for a moment, ’Where did I hear that name before? Her attire, her appearance, her aura... could it be....’
"Don’t bother comprehending why we’re doing this, Father Fredric." Leonardo said, "Or should I say, Hyndall Wiseman."
Fredric’s eyes widened in surprise. His composure faltered for the first time, seeing Leonardo making that claim. However he wasn’t scared enough to accept that.
"I’m afraid, I do not have any idea what you are implying, Leo." He replied, trying to cover the fact, "But I do know, you are not the type to get deceived that easily...."
"Enough!" Leonardo screamed, his eyes laced with frustration, "It was you who painted our hands with the blood of countless innocent just save your own skin." His mana cascaded into his sword through his hands. It radiated divinely. "But we’ll be blind no more."
Taking a step forward, he was about to unleash a powerful attack. Right at that moment something unexpected happened.
Fredric whispered something in an incomprehensible language as though a demonic incantation. Leonardo’s sword— Stella, became dust right before his eyes, delivering him a shock and utter despair.
The atmosphere changed drastically. The sun which was radiating brightly, now hid under a dark sphere— as though a forceful solar eclipse occurred out of nowhere. And the overwhelming dark energy started gathering near Fredric.
Few more individuals— the other priests and nuns, appeared. Few appeared in good shape while few woke up from the ruins of the destructed part of the church. They had wounds, but it were healed by the dark energy floating around the surroundings.
Their ears became pointed. Two devilish horns appear on their forehead. Even Fredric was one of them. Their real identities were now before the others.
’Check Mate!’ Skyler chuckled in his mind, ’I need to thank those idiots for delivering me such crucial info. It was beneficial running into them when I first arrived in this nation. Though must say, I never imagined to find something this dramatic. Well whatever. Now for the final part.’
"See." He began speaking, "This is their true colour hiding behind your faith and devotion. But fear not as I stand here to protect you."
His behaviour was becoming overdramatic. He himself accepted that. But it was necessary.
He stood before the other, planning to take the first attack. However, a sudden notification appeared on the system screen,
[Alert: Mana interference has been detected]
Before Skyler could understand the meaning of it, something pierced through his heart from behind.
It was a sword— that one which McVill wielded. And it was McVill himself who attacked him all of a sudden. He eyes were hollow, incapable of conveying any emotion, just like a zombie as he pulled that out.
[Alert: Heavy wound sustained. HP lost 5000. Remaining HP: 13200/18200]
He was a stag-10 fighter after all. It was no wonder his attack power was equivalent to the strike of the white serpent back in that swamp.
However, his sudden attack was a surprise for them. Only Fredric grinned in sinister smile.
Vitra almost punched McVill with her scorching fist, if it wasn’t Skyler who prevented her.
"Don’t." he murmured, holding Vitra’s fiery punch by himself, "It’s not his fault. He’s being manipulated."
But Skyler’s wound was severed. He found it hard to breath as his organs were damaged. Top of that, they didn’t bring any healers.
Vitra immediately converted her mana into healing spells. Well she was one of the Primordial Rulers after all. Healing spells were common among them. Thus she prevented Skyler from loosing HP any further.
"HAA-HAA-HAA..." Fredric let a sinister laugh out, "Since our secrets have been revealed, we don’t need to hide it under the mask anymore. Behold. If not for the goddess, we shall purge your bodies for our own benefit."
All the dark mana gathered around the circles his companions cast. McVill who was frustrated to find out about his sister’s abuses, got affected by it. All his emotion twisted and tangled with one another, leaving him no option but to driven mad by it.
He was angry and desperate to erase the stigma from his sister’s life. And they took full advantages of his desperate heart, directing his anger towards his own allies.
"So that’s how you turned the common people against us back then." Leonardo replied, his voice laced with anger as well, yet somehow he wasn’t affected. Probably because he was a hero— who knows.
"Now I understand why we couldn’t track the mastermind back the. It’s because you were the one behind everything. Weren’t you?"
"Indeed!" Fredric smiled, his sinister gaze filled with amusement, "We needed bloodshed for our awakening. And I couldn’t find a better way than using your blindness towards the goddess. How naïve could you be to follow my words without a single question. HAA-HAA-HAA."
Their laugh echoed through their ears. Once again, Leonardo was useless against the enemies.
"Sorry to break it to you." Skyler stroke a chop behind McVill’s neck, making him unconscious so he wouldn’t interfere. Now shifting his gaze he smiled confidently, "But you’re destined to meet your end here."
Skyler nodded. It was a signal for Vitra to take action. And she did. Wielding the same supreme strength she once wield against the Xions, she materialized multiple flaming lances— the same amount as Fredric’s companions was.
"Scorching Insolation!" Her voice bloomed, low and gentle, yet with a hint of menacing rage.
Those attacks pierced through other head, down to their bottoms, and began to burn them in the same flames, in which the Flame Sorcerer turned to ashes.
The priests and the nuns, faced the same fate. Rose witnessed them burning to ashes. However, something felt off. As if it was too easy for them to annihilate to demons hiding in the appearance of the priests and nuns.
In fact, it was little strange as the demons didn’t reduced to ashes. Much to Vitra’s surprise, the somehow withstand her destructive attack.
’Preposterous!’ she thought while pretending that she wasn’t surprise, ’My attacks even worked on those sorcerers, then why isn’t it working on the lowly demons such as themselves. No. it’s working but somehow they’re reversing the effects. Could it be..’
She whispered near Skyler, intending to inform him about the situation.
"My lord." She said, "As it appears, these low stage demons are capable of reversing time only to a certain level."
"What?" Skyler was surprised, "But how?"
"Demons are the residence of the Shadow World— a world where time is irrelevant. And some higher demons can manipulate time at their will. Though it’s a complex process. It’s rather shocking to see them doing it."
"Then we have to take them down before they cause a massive chaos." Skyler stretched his hands, making all of his senses active. "Rose, remain here and protect them while we eradicate them."
"Okay, be careful, my lord."
"Sure." Skyler’s body enveloped in mana. His black robe waved as he put his mask on.
[Equipped Magical Item: Mask of the Dawn. Status are now in effect]
"Let’s go, Vitra." He ordered, "Let’s get the job over with."
"Yes, My Lord." She smiled, standing with toe to toe next to him.
