Dragon Necromancer: Starting With First Dragon Bloodline-Chapter 40: Selaira
’I want to fight her,’ Noa thought, clenching his fists.
This girl was strong indeed.
Not only would she make an amazing sparring partner in physical combat, but Noa felt one session with her would be enough to reach the second body threshold.
He was also guaranteed to achieve great progress in his mana control as well.
Even a single fight would make him a stronger fighter and help him understand how the instinctual shadow senses worked.
Noa clearly remembered the first time he sparred with Commander Haric and how shadows mimicked his movements.
So he wanted to experience it again.
This time, to copy techniques from royalty and master them in silence.
"We will talk about those dreams later," he said to Thalia finally, a flicker of curiosity stirring in his heart.
Then, he took a step inside the hall.
The world before him buzzed with tension, dozens of students still talking about her.
"She has bonded with an epic-ranked beast. Though she rarely shows the creature and seldom uses elemental mana, they say she commands them the same way she wields the swords."
Still following the noises, Noa’s eyes narrowed.
"I still remember when she beat two seniors at once."
"And by pure physical strength, at that."
"I have heard that her beast sleeps in her soul and only awakens when blood is spilled or someone dies."
’Elyndros,’ Noa recognized her beast by looking at its almost invincible mana patterns.
He was the only one who could decipher them.
’Blood and death are two of the possible elements,’ he noted, searching for the other two.
But despite peering through her hidden attributes, the girl didn’t seem to use any elements, keeping them hidden for some reason.
Or—
There was no need for her to use elemental mana in sparring matches. Especially when she was a warrior and relied on her trusted silver sword.
Standing near the center of the arena, Selaira looked regal with an unyielding posture.
The only time she showed a trace of a smile was when she swung her sword and cut through the air, her thin lips barely parting.
The whispers that seemed to stretch endlessly faded away as Noa studied her from afar.
She wasn’t doing anything special.
Even her movements looked ordinary.
And yet, the flow she created in each second, and every mana speck that made way for her, increased Noa’s desire to test himself against her.
Then—
As if sensing his desire, those gray eyes met his, just briefly.
She had noticed him and his approach.
The closer he got to the girl, the more people noticed him as well, questions rising in their minds.
"Don’t tell me!"
The first-years recognized him instantly.
"What’s that bastard doing here? And how dare he look at her?"
"Is it going to be a confession? Doesn’t he realize his place?"
"I thought he had a girlfriend!"
Some students even ran after him, rage filling their hearts.
Yet, upperclassmen had no idea who he was, looking at the scene with curiosity.
Noa, however, didn’t slow down.
Though his roommates questioned his actions, Thalia followed him blindly. She was also curious to learn more about the girl.
Even as stares burned holes in his back, Noa didn’t break eye contact with Selaira.
"I want to spar," he said plainly, not hiding the Graveworm. "With you."
Scoffs, insults, laughs—all were mixed around him.
Now that he had spoken to her, there was no going back. Even the boys who rushed after him stopped just one step behind, watching to see how the situation would unfold.
As for Selaira, she eyed Noa closely.
She also shifted her gaze between Ashe and him, her gray eyes veiled in mana to better read him.
"No," she answered flatly.
But instead of shifting her attention, she was still observing him. "You are strange," she added.
Another wave of insults came his way.
He nodded, fully expecting such an outcome. "That’s fine. But I know you want to see more. And I think you can stay."
The girl raised an eyebrow.
"Watch me," Noa continued, not giving up. "Judge me if you want and see for yourself."
A small breath escaped her nose.
"You really are a strange one, aren’t you?" she said and didn’t move.
Selaira remained in her spot. Though she didn’t give Noa an answer, she didn’t leave either.
"That’s enough... For now," Noa said, sitting down on the floor.
He decided to wait for his instructor to arrive so that the class could begin.
Two minutes later, the air shifted.
A figure in a black leather uniform stepped in from the gate, her armor pulsing faintly.
Her pupils and skin were no longer human.
They were slithered.
This instructor wasn’t just a beast tamer—she was also a merger, who had linked with her bonded creature completely.
"I want only the first years to stay. Everyone else scram," she declared, her voice loudly reverberating across the hall.
Her tone demanded obedience.
Still, the students wanted to stay—just to see how the situation between Noa and Selaira would unfold.
They wanted him to suffer, to be humiliated before her.
But when the teacher glared at them once more, they obeyed and walked away.
One minute later, everyone not in the first year had left the arena, finally letting silence settle over the hall.
Yet, there was one student who didn’t even flinch when the teacher’s sharp gaze met hers.
"Selaira, why are you still here? Do you have something to tell me?" the instructor questioned.
The girl shook her head softly.
"I want to be here. I found something interesting I want to watch."
The teacher hadn’t expected this answer.
Selaira constantly looked bored, as if nothing in this world could pique her curiosity. But now she had shown a completely new side, making the instructor want to know more.
"Okay," she said and looked at her new students. "Now, line up and get ready for the sparring session. Let’s see how many of you are worth staying here."
