Dragon Necromancer: Starting With First Dragon Bloodline-Chapter 27: Attempts
The second pair of eyes set up a connection with his Dragon Gaze.
They clung to the shadows.
They flickered, remaining half-formed and blind.
’I did it,’ he thought, his heart racing.
Then he pushed harder, trying to get the second vision.
But the threads he and Ashe were pulling trembled, slipped, and twisted before snapping completely.
’Shit,’ Noa sighed.
His pupils flared to a dull, usual gray. 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂
The connection was lost.
His mana control was still too crude, and he had exhausted his entire reserve without achieving his wish.
Creating spells when he had no prior experience was harder than expected.
’Would I get more knowledge when she evolves?’ Noa lamented, looking at his cute little dragon.
No one could tell what kind of creature she was.
But Noa knew that one day she would offer him so much more in strength or even in the information department.
However, he had a long road ahead.
And even though they looked pretty rough right now, he couldn’t wait to witness their full combined potential.
Because of the lack of mana, the warmth in his eyes had flickered out.
Even the shadow marks faded into darkness.
His face paled.
Energy escaped with each breath, draining stamina now.
Seeing this, Thalia leaned forward.
Her worry was apparent on her face, her voice carrying clear signs of nervousness as well.
"Are you alright?" she asked. "Did you use all of your mana?"
Noa nodded slightly and closed his eyes.
The slow pace of the carriage wheels guided his focus in silence.
His senses concentrated and found that even though the air felt empty, it was anything but that.
The tiny specks of stray mana particles floated around him.
Most of them had foreign elements he couldn’t touch.
They drifted far from him, as if avoiding his presence entirely.
But some of them—
Some of the blackish specks didn’t avoid him.
On the contrary, they were attracted to him, and when Noa raised his hand, palm open, they flew closer.
There was no resistance. No hesitation on their part.
All they did was drift toward him and follow the air to fill his body.
Ashe stirred as well.
Her gray skin expanded and trembled for a moment.
Her silent hum settled Noa’s mind into a calm, even deeper focused state and guided shadow particles to touch his skin.
The result?
His speed of recovery was augmented like never before.
Even his core grew, making a way to hold more mana.
With soft flicking pulses, the dark mana sank into his skin and returned the color his face was devoid of.
A hollow spark materialized between his core and heart, bringing them closer.
’This is fast. Too fast,’ Noa realized.
Because he was devouring shadow particles so quickly, the shadows themselves thinned inside the carriage.
It was barely noticeable—but still, it was a change.
Thankfully, only someone with high shadow aptitude could notice the shift, and when he opened his eyes, the only emotion he saw on Thalia’s face was worry.
She was still watching him like he would crumble into dust at any moment.
But when she saw how energetic Noa suddenly became and how warm his face looked, she sighed in relief.
"I am pulling them just like Haric taught me," he added and continued whatever he was doing.
The worm calmed his senses and slid through shadows to bring them to him.
She was efficient.
She was great at her job.
So Noa sank deeper into his seat and breathed in as streams of mana were fully recovered within less than five minutes.
It was terrifying speed.
If his instructor saw it, he would warn Noa not to speak or show this to anyone else.
This world wasn’t scary only because of corrupted beasts.
The books never mentioned it, but Noa was good at reading the room, helping him figure out just how deadly humans could be to each other.
However, he also found that the people in power were the scariest.
They stood above the law and controlled the world according to their wishes.
And if they found threats to their positions, the target would get neutralized without asking any questions.
Noa could tell that the region he was transmigrated into was no exception.
The Solmare Empire covered the entire western continent.
It was made up of seven smaller kingdoms, one of which was Eldros—the country Noa Osborn was from.
He was very attentive to how his father spoke.
Even Elara and his instructors showed obvious concern about someone or some distant power that they all feared.
Noa couldn’t exactly point his finger, but he had a couple of guesses.
Most of them reached the names that governed Eldros, and maybe the world beyond that.
It was an intimidating topic, and no one spoke openly about it. In fear that someone might be listening, Noa had to stay silent and not ask questions.
But this eerie feeling alone was enough for him to tell about his potential enemies...
A group of powerful, tyrannical people who would one day stand before him, and Noa had to be ready to face them.
At least he had one person near him he could trust.
She would be a pillar of his support beside Ashe, and he would do everything to make her stronger.
Planning to aid her evolution process and strengthen her prophetic abilities, Noa looked back at the road, imagining his future at the academy.
He would gain allies there.
Some of them would betray him and turn into his enemies.
Some would straight-up pick on him, thinking they could bully or even kill him.
Noa knew all of that.
He had read enough novelkisss and studied about this world to guess how his life would turn out.
So he grinned to himself.
This life would be different.
This time, no one would dare to mess with him.
’Let’s see how creative they will be. I wonder how difficult it’s gonna get?’
This thought followed Noa for two weeks.
Until he, Ashe, Thalia, and Luna arrived at the Arcane Academy just in time for the examination to start.
